I consider myself somewhat of a fast 16 yard shooter. With that said how far should I place the pattern board from end of barrel? I know this is some what of a general question. Reason is I had Briley make me chokes from XF to cylinder.
30 yards should be close most singles are shot between about 28 and 35 yards. Many say the average is about 32 yards.
25 to 35 yards because your shooting distance will vary from shot to shot ... If you are going t pattern to see where the "Hot Spot" is in your pattern is that is one thing but to try and establish what the pattern will be at any yardage is a waste of time ... Shotgun shells are much like snow flakes and no two are alike so the chance of duplicating a pattern is slim to none, don't care if its new or reloads ... Pattern for POINT of Impact (POI) and don't worry about any hole that might be in any one pattern, it will not be in the next one ... My Father wasted cases of shells trying to prove me wrong, never did .but he had boxes and boxes of pattern sheets with little x's and o's on them as well as article upon article of of who said this and that but never once proved anything other than what I said above ...
