Let's say a new product is introduced...like say, a shotgun...just sayin. Well...I met this guy the other night and here's his story. A nobody (sorta like me) decides that its a cool looking gun, has all the cool adjustable stuff and the price is really low considering it's features...He figures what the hell so he buys one because he was tired of that feeling of walking up to the line with an old, ragged out gun while standing between $12K worth of guns feeling intimidated and severely out-gunned. After receiving his new gun and thinking WOW, what a feeling to finally be holding a kick-ass, purpose-built gun! He arrived at the club and proudly strolled in and proceeded to put it together and set it in the rack with all the other high-dollar guns. Then he stood back and watched...hmmm....that guy's checking out my gun, he thought to himself. Then another...and another. Pretty soon there's 4 or 5 guys checking it out and one finally says, "hey buddy, is this your gun"? he replied with a nod...."can I pick it up", the man asks and he replied, "absolutely, have at it"! After a few minutes of these men passing it around, one comes up and politely asked "what's a TriStar, where'd ya get it, how much?" This happy new gun owner proceeded to spend the next hour explaining all the details then went out to smoke the best scores of his life...all the while there's a group of guy's watching his every move because "that guy's shooting one of those new Tri-Stars". Next week, same scene except a curious few ask if it'd be possible to shoot it. His reply "absolutely, and it's on me". While portraying a nice gesture he secretly didn't want any reloads placed in the chamber of his new toy. Bird after bird, smoked by each person that took a turn. Eyes were wide on each person that pulled the trigger, common reply was "son-of-a bitch shoots doesn't it, there's no recoil and you said you paid how much and its a damn combo?" Week three....at least a dozen people asking, calling and emailing about the wonder-gun and how to get it. He referred them to each dealer that he was aware of that were selling the gun (and yes, one of which was on the other side). Three in total but all out of stock...waiting for the next shipment which were all already spoken for. Week six, new shooter decides to start talking about it on web forum to help answer all the questions and curiosity. Week eight, 2 months into shooting and his inbox is overflowing. 70+ emails later he decided to go big and open himself up to any and all questions, He thought about maybe even starting a blog or separate forum since it's generating some of the most active topic discussions to date. After all, advertisers pay based on site traffic, why not tap into that? Just kidding...maybe??? Best is yet to come... Using the talent derived from years of critical thinking and work related communications he proceeded to put it all on the line for all to see in a well written easy to follow post...boom...post blows up. Suddenly he's a Shill? Accused of having a monetary gain at stake. He know's this isn't true so he defends himself. He's told that "no individual that isn't involved in the industry is capable of such detailed and eloquent writing. Must be a Shill". He'd have placed that bet on his life...nothing to gain. Nothing to prove. Just another dude with a gun. Frustrated and tired, he decides to shut it out and go to bed. He awakes the next morning to find this... Not who's gun cost what. Not the name game BS of P, K, B or Z gun crap. I'd be willing to bet he could take a H&R Topper, throw on an add-a-rib short rib and bondo the comb and smoke targets like nobody's business for less than $400. Hell, he's thinking about doing it just do it to say "up-yours" to all the custom made gun shit. He don't care what you shoot. He just likes talking about it. He also believes that any doubters can go to hell. I overheard him say that the whole Troll Challenge thing is off. He has lost respect for those that doubted him and wont allow them to share his squad. That's to bad, I met this guy one night at the club. He was fun to hang with and one hell of a shooter that knew how to be serious while having fun. I think his name was Pat...something like that. Last I heard, he was rambling on about some Defamation of Character on a Public Forum thing....but then he laughed so I doubt he was serious...he's a funny guy.
A shotgun is just a pipe bolted to a piece of wood - if they shoot where you're looking and you're looking at the target correctly, they'll all "smoke targets like nobody's business". Last year, just for fun, I pulled out the gun my parents gave me for Xmas in 1960. Simple little 20ga. bolt action marketed by Montgomery Ward - fixed full choke - took it out to the practice trap at CC and damned if I didn't shoot a 23 with it. Fun indeed. I've personally only owned two Turkish made shotguns (a CZ and a Huglu) and found both to have quality issues. Haven't seen Tri-Star other than pictures and hope that when you start shooting ATA matches yours holds up well through those hot, humid 300 target days. When you get about 10,000 rounds through that gun give us an update on how it performed.
Will do! I start shooting registered next week...got a long way to go to get to 10K. I hope it makes it, more than anyone else. Seems like everyone's waiting in the shadows just to jump out and say "ha, ha, we told ya so". When that day comes I will be disappointed but until then I must say, I think I'd rather be shooting than taking bets on how long it will last! Glad to meet ya, Columbus, shoot straight!
As a side note to my OP. I don't mean to use this forum as a tool and offer my apologies for doing so. This is a result of sometimes things must be said regardless of avenue, using any means available and deemed necessary to do so. I don't plan to run off anytime soon and as a matter of fact, plan to use this as another means to deepen my understanding of the sport, encourage others and welcome new friends. I would, without question, understand if the OP were to be removed. It has served it's purpose and honestly, has no right to be on this forum. It's a shame that it was ever felt necessary to write at all... Thank you for your understanding, Pat
