I do have one, and had it about a year now. I used it a lot when I first got it and saw where I was missing and made corrections and did lots better. I use it for doubles during league so I can see my problems and definitely it helps. I am going to use it to see my caps when I move back more. I will probably use it for other clay sports too but mostly for trap now. They had a big sale last week, don't know if its still going on, but occasionally you can find a used one. Only get the 2018 or newer model if you buy used. Great little tool.
I bought one when they first came on the market. Used it for several months, didn't see anything I didn't already know, then sold it. Lost $50.00. Was it worth it? It made shooting a little more interesting for a while, but I don't think I learned very much from the investment.
They have a Bicycle model that would mount under your Trap Barrell, Walmart has them, They are not called shot camera, but they are a lot cheaper, mounting would not be a problem, I may try one this Summer. GB.....................................DLS
I'v got a GoPro that i could mount directly on top, looking straight down barrel. This set up would be as close to what one would actually see.
I have a GoPro and considered using it. Used the GoPro once goose hunting and couldn't really tell which shots were mine or the other 5 guys in the pit with me. I have a shotkam Watch this video, skip to the one minute mark.
I have both the shotkam and a GoPro the GoPro will not show half of what the ShotKAM will. If you're going to buy a GoPro to do that you will be wasting your money
I tried a gopro ( I took it off my ATV) and it was not too good. I waiting to see if Santa comes through with a shotKam. If not Ill buy one.
I wonder if anyone has a ShotKam they are tired of playing with, or have learned all they need to know?
I have one. I don’t use it like I did when I first got it. It does add weight and make the gun a little heavier which is why I don’t put it on more. It is pretty cool though. I loan it to my buddies all the time and can see myself getting it back out when I get into a rough patch.
You can tell from the vid that the GoPro was designed for a broad range of applications, and the ShotKam was designed for one specific purpose. Choose wisely.
Still no substitute for an experienced good shooter to stand behind you while you shoot. Watching to see if you lift your head, stopping your swing, foot position, barrel position over trap house and so on.
Does the gopro have zoom capability? I am thinking of one for just a video camera. In other words, I do not want to use it for a shotkam style application. I do not seem to be able to find this information anywhere.
I think the GoPro is a fixed lens. I have an older one and tried it with head gear and could not see the target, then I bought a ShotKam. Check with Go Pro website or aftermarket suppliers, maybe they have a lens you could add on.
GoPro is a very progressive company. Their products are constantly evolving and newer, more advanced models are being introduced all the time. Check with them to find your answer.
Walmart has a camera that mounts on Bicycle handlebars, it may be able to fit on a shotgun BBl, their Stock on them is up & down, or in and out as they do sell. GB................................DLS
DLS: I looked at some in a clear locked case at wallmart today. They had the GoPro 7 version in three colors. Each color had a different price. I am thinking there must be some differences in technical specifications as the price spread was all over the place. My walmart did have the bike mount in stock. The GoPro certainly looks more like a camera made for mounting on something other than a human hand. However, what do I know? They were in a locked display. I did see where they offer a strap arrangement so you can mount it on your head. Does one control it by thought when you mount it on your head? This stuff is way above my pay grade.
The GoPro is a great device. But for the specific purpose of seeing a shotgun shoot targets it is about a 4 or 5 with the Shotcam being about a 9.5.
