Shooting from hip?

For what ever reason, has anyone competed that mounted gun below shouder and was competitive? Until I heal better from damaged cervical spinal cord operation, i may have to go this route.
Please I'm not advocating adding another trophie class

 

There used to be a wheel chair shooter that shot the Grand in Vandalia who shot from the hip. His barrel was about 5 ft. long he said he shot off the end of the barrel. It can be done

I think he held the gun at about the navel. An 1100? great shot from long yardage.

 

I never seen this guy shoot! Just talked to a buddy of mine who seen him shoot at the Grand, Vandalia. Said he would draw a crowd when he shot. He said sometimes he would be in his wheel chair, hold foot out to rest gun on and shoot.
He said one time he broke 199x200.
My idea would be to make red dot shotgun mount above breech end about 10 to 12'' or whatever height so i don't bend neck down. Have zeroed in around 32 to 35 yards. He also mentioned about the long barrel.
Maybe HB can find info on this guy?

 

I knew him and he was married to a Phillipino I believe,, to me it looked like it was nestled into his belly, but a HELLUVA long Bbl. he was quite good too.

He was a handicap shooter and parked his car behind the trapline under the shade trees on the west end of trapline.

I shot 25 targets from the PORCH at the old Delaware Gun Club when Donald Vanbrimmer ran it, on a bet by Jim Nicholas who ran a gun store on west Broad, called New Rome gunstore, I broke 23/25 and he would not PAY ME. He said no whiteman can break that many targets from the hip at this distance.

I learned this in the Army from my rifle instructor, it is actually a natural, your gun will go where you are looking.

You should have seen me backing up a new 16 yard shooter with the club owners 22 rifle, using 22 long rifle bullets, never missed a target on the back-up. SMOKED TARGETS.

Ray Stafford is quite good shooting from the hip ... I watched him out at the Old Phx Club one time and he was drawing a crowd, maybe they need to hire him to put on a show at the grand so they can get the numbers up ..? (Probably used one of those triggers that should be outlawed ) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Back in the day some of us guys after the shoot was over would shoot 27 and doubles from the hip. Gene Kopp was really good.
If you can shine a flashlight beam from the hip and hit a spot 35 yards away when you turn it on, you can shoot from the hip.

 

May make a couple of red dot parallax free 1x power scope mount brackets, one for TM1 other 1100. This is the material I'll use, Derlin plastic. Thinking of a Picatinny style scope mount.
Parallax free means the red dot remains center on target no matter postion of head. Have one on crossbow, works great.

I watched Stafford give Bonillas a shooting from the hip lesson at the old Mile Hi Gun Club. A $100 was offered to the winner if they would shoot from the hip to shorten up a single shoot-off. I don't think Bonillas ever tried it again.

 

Here is the red dot scope I ordered, should be here next week. It's a Burris paralex free with no obstrutions around lens to enterfer with picking up of target. Plus I'm a two eyed shooter anyway.
I'll design a cantalever style post mount for the sight probably around 10 to 12'' hi. depending on location on barrel.
Now only if that dang limb did not fall from tree when i was cutting fire wood and damaged my spinal cord.

 

ROOKIE SHTR: Make your mount out of Aluminum Stock, I made one and shot it at Missouri Hdcp, I sold the mount and site to The Owner of Wenigs.

That delron is not Stable enough or strong enough for that Site Installation. Mine was made out of Aluminum, and mounted under the Adj Comb to the stock.

Here is the Picatinny style rail that the sight will attach to.
I'll cut it down to the exact length of the red dot sight which is 2'' long.

Stafford was the best I ever saw in person although I heard Hiram Bradley was great. I saw Ray at Holford's pigeon shoot when a guy bet him 500 bucks that he couldn't kill 5 out of 15 from the hip. Ray killed 10, if I was as good as he was I'd have just got the 5 and bet the dude again. I don't think Ray was a pool player though. Brad

 

BATs Ljutic is laying on a table at the "museum in Sparta" for what ever reason. I took a pic of it and a pic of him shooting it from the 27 at Vandalia. Always had to stop and watch him shoot and talk to him. Truly amazing.

Good news i got the red dot Burris scope...Bad news is the Weaver base is on back order that will attach to rail.
The white calibrated dial will be used to zero red dot so pattern hits about 70/30 at 35yds with scope around 14'' above center line of bore. Beyond that, pattern should be higher and lower befor 35 yds.
I'll be shooting from an electric scooter or walker...Look out Starlings in my back yard.
Nickel is for comparison.

Supposedly a guy by the name of Ton Knapp was pretty good at shooting from the hip !!

Got to see him several times at SCTP Nationals in Sparta.
Quite a showman.

 

What does the abbreviation BAT mean ?

 

Had Stock Lock make me one of their custom stocks last year, but due to my current condition, can not use it...yet.
They made it to same specs as the adjustable stock that I made for my super high rib that I made out of Derlin.
But now that i have to shoot from hip for an unknown amount of time...no need for that heavy stock.
Going to use the old stock less adjustable comb for an ultra lite stock.

 

I never ever saw such an ugly stock like in the case. ! It looks like Quasimodo of Notre Dame !

I agree shoot from the hip and show us the stock for that too. I can wait to see it.

 

Now remember ''Beauty is in the eyes of the stock holder''. Also take into consideration the inventor of that stock who is a many time ''All American'' shooter has 5 to 6 patents on it. Might want to research ''Stock Lock'' stocks.
Really don't need much of a stock from hip.
I think a ''Louiseville Slugger'' machined down to fit receiver would be sooo coool.

A shooter from Ohio, shot doubles from the hip and carried a class A average. He drew a crowd at Vandalia,and every where he shot doubles. No one ever complained about his style of shooting doubles. His name was Robert Crispin, he managed the Urbandale gun club in N.E. Ohio for many years. Roger C.

I believe that BAT was actually the initials for this gentleman chairshooter, often referred to as BAT. His name was Robert A. Thomas, of Greenville, Mercer Co., PA and he is listed in the Annual ATA Average Book as Thomas BAT, Robert A.

Just about everyone who saw him shooting, stopped to watch for a while. I recall watching him during the Grand American. He usually parked on the grass just behind the trapfields near the locker room. Looked like he shot of the end of the barrel. I believe he shot a Lujtic with an extended barrel and there certainly wasn't very much noise when it discharged. I watched him smoke targets from long yardage and he shot doubles as well.

I never had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Thomas and I've always regretted it.

Several years before he started shooting registered trap (1989) he was a competitive hand gun shooter (1978).

Mr. Thomas shot his last registered targets on August 17, 2005.

I did not find him mentioned in Completed Careers. The only obituary I found for him was short and did not mention his shooting or much else about his life.

Robert A. Thomas, 74, of 325 New Castle Road, Butler, formerly of 14 Ball Hill Road, Greenville, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Butler. Born on Feb. 3, 1939, in Berlin, Pa., to Joseph and Velma (Walker) Thomas, he married Rosemarie Songcog in 1993. She survives in Greenville.

According to ATA stats, Mr. Thomas registered 73,650 singles; 69,675 handicap and 62,850 double targets.

It was reported that he was friends with Al Ljutic who designed a shotgun with suggestions from BAT. Some said his O/U barrels were 44 inches long and he had 20+ pounds of brass in his stock. I'm not sure just how long his single barrel was but it was long.

His best singles average came in 1998 when he shot 19,200 16-yard targets with an average of .9360. That same year he shot 10,000 handicap and 5700 double targets.

Hope this helps others learn a little about one of our fellow shooters.

Thanks HB. Now I'm really stoked to get shooting again. My best friend said he did draw a crowed and sometimes rested the end of that long barrel off the end of his foot.

 

The gentleman with the long gun placed it in the center of his chest. He came to the Spring Grand when it was in Phoenix. I also seen him in Vandalia,many times. A shooter once filed a complaint against him for the length of his barrel. The reason was that it supposedly shortened up his yardage on handicap. I do not know what the out come was, but it was a trivial complaint. Roger C.

 

Roger, I would love to see that complaint. Some poor dude can't even hold a gun properly and makes a device to allow him to shoot, from a chair no less, and the big tough trapshooter wants to keep him from playing. Wouldn't want to get beat by a cripple, eh?

Remington used to make a 2 1/2 dram load. I loved them for 1st shot of doubles and 16's. they only made them once a year and with the trouble they are in now, who knows if they will again. Call the factory and see if they may have some in inventory. Roger C.

 

After talking to Burris scopes about my back ordered Weaver base mount and not getting any good info...I contacted Weaver directly. I explained my idea about mounting the scope around 14'' above barrel so i can shoot from chair/hip, but is still on backorder. He said ''I'll send you one with end the hour, no charge''. THANK YOU WEAVER.
Need to make the post so that it will hinge down so it will fit in case. Where it hinges I'm thinking of making some calibration marks in regards to how high the gun will shoot. As in 50/50, 70/30, 100 or higher. The gun will shoot higher the more i tilt post down.

 

Here's what I got so far on the mono post where the red dot scope will mount. Going to use a rail that will mount to the top T of the post...cantalever style. This will let me move scope closer or further from eye. It's not bolted down yet. Later I'll do some cosmetic work to the post.

 

Now it's starting to come together...I think.
Red dot is mounted to rear of rail. Bolts need to be cut down. Also need to make structural support utilizing 1/4'' heim joints.

 

A dollar to a donut it will not work, as delron is too flexible, now Aluminum would be different.

This is a proto type. Once tested for proper design and it does fail...here comes the aluminum. Not going to do aluminum until all bugs are worked out. Now all my other high ribs I've made are derlin...granted not this high. Still need to add triangulated steel brace from below sight extending down to front of barrrel. This will be 1/4'' steel rod that should add enough (hope) structural support. This type of derlin is even used to make some gears in certain applications,
Appretiate your thouhts...and will let you know if it does fail...donuts at the CC are on me if your right.

 

My machinest/trapshooter friend is allready itching to make the final one out of aluminum. But let's see if this even works and that means me also due to my condition. Had to get another major cervival neck operation after first one left me in bad shape.

 

Have the spherical rod ends attached. Threaded rod will be cut after shooting on paper around 35 yds and then threaded into rod ends. Note how I cut the vertical post at an angle...this point will give me a reference point on how far to lean upper post to allow an infinant amount of how high or low pattern is.
Also where post swivels will allow for barrel to fit into case...after some mods to case.
Will post pics later on a custom made brace that i may need for left hand to hold forarm of gun. Can not hold wrist straight out or open fingers. Have one now with spring loaded strings to each finger, but does not fit forarm.

The ingenuity of trapshooters never ceases to amaze me. Over the decades there have been several trapshooters with varying disabilities who have devised devices allowing their return to the sport.

I tip my hat to you rookieshooter for doing whatever you had to in order to get you to the shooting line.

I think you are over complicating the issue. It is not as hard to shoot from the hip as you would think. Of course there will be a learning curve. Try it once with just a regular gun. You still have to see the bird and concentrate just like normal. If you look for the barrel you will get the same results as with a shoulder mounted gun. It basically is all in the hand alignment to the target. You don't have to see your hands alignment because they are attached to your super computer sitting on your shoulders. Same reason why trick shooters can shoot targets over their head, behind their back, etc.

The key is to get the same mounting position every time. If you use that sight, I would think that would be crucial also. You would have to experiment to get the sweet spot of where you have the most success. It may not be all the way down on your hip. Of course this may be affected by your physical impairment.

 

I mentioned in an earlier post that many years ago a few of us guys shot 27 yds and doubles from the hip. Used to practice shooting into a dirt bank and seeing where the shot would hit. Kay Ohey even had an excersis to show how the hands would point to where your looking. Now this is when i was in top shape. It was not pointing left or right so much that bothered me, it was the elevation. Hoping that the sight might help in that department and picking up a few more birds east and west targets would be nice also. Thanks for your reply.

 

Got on my electric scooter and shot the Perazzi from hip at paper 35 yds away. Shot only 2 shots...both shots were perfect L and R. The vertical needed to be adjusted as it shot low as around 40/60. Only had 3 dram shells and recoil was bad since I'm still in therapy to strengthen hands. Next time I'll load up some 1 oz loads.
Wife is going to make me per my plans a recoil restraint device that will have 2 or 3 points of restraints that will attach to custom knee brace, then to pouch that butt of stock will rest in. Leg then will absorb most of recoil. The pouch will have a strap that goes over shoulder.
Picture of knee brace below. And picture of rail that will attach to receiver of 1100 that will have the same raised red dot scope configuration as Perazzi, but for Rem 1100. Will attach post to top of rail and top with another rail with sight.
The 1100 ought to be sweet shooting with 1 oz with Clay dot powder. Doubles should be fun.

 

Here is the leather pouch my wife made for me between her wedding gowns and prom dresses she alters. This will hold the butt stock and absorb most of kick. A shoulder strap and maybe some snaps to the vest should hold it in place until I get more strength in hands and arms. I need to test fire to see if I'll still need straps to knee area. That should be close to where it will be located on vest.

 

Now to test out my high rise sight along with recoil absorbing pouch. In the pouch I added a 1'' piece of high density foam that the stock fits snug to. Before using the pouch the recoil was really bad due to the weakness in my hands.
The pouch is hung over my right shouder and around my chest. The first shot felt as if there was only half a load.
Fired 5 more times...felt like I was shooting a BB gun. So then got some 3 dram 1 1/8 loads and there was zero difference. No need for the straps going to the knee brace that I was thinking about. In fact, I was able to shoot with left hand resting upon my right hand. I can not see barrel at all, nothing to block vision except the red dot.
Once i get more strength in left hand and a custom brace made where I can use fingers to hold forarm, I'll start on some clays. Mean while I'll be shooting hundreds of shells in my back yard. Need to get used to the radical trejectory of the sight to bore line at different yardages. It's 70/30 now at 35 yds.

Untill I get my strength back, the TM1 is going under a massive weight reduction program. The forend needs to be lighter, so some wood and iron will be removed. A 3/8 drill bit did just fine for the wood and the hunk of iron. After removal of said material, I proof tested the forend under actual field conditions. Enter 35 grains of Bluedot and 1 1/2 oz of shot...still have all my fingers after testing. 100% tested.
One of my problems is getting my left hand to fit the shape of the forend. Getting another custom spring loaded hand brace made. If still a problem then i'll remove the forend altogether and replace with a custom made walnut pistol grip made in the style of a Thompson sub machine gun front grip...how cool would that look! This would attach to existing forend iron. Plus it would be even lighter.
In the pic I started to remove the iron by removing the push button thingy.

 

Still need to remove more weight from the Perazzi that my left arm and hand will hold. Maybe one day they will get better. But untill then I need an ultra lite TM1. So off to Simmons gun works to get the barrel sanotized...as in remove the no longer needed heavy rib and posts. Except the last few inches where the elevated sight post will attach. Then re-blued.
This barrel has already been tricked up by Briley and ported.

 

While the Perazzi barrel is taking a ride on the big brown truck to Kansas. Be a good time to do some mods on the 1100. Going to utilze the standard scope mount that used to be on my slug barrel 870 for my high in the sky red dot scope.
Shooting 1oz loads with Clay dot should be a breeze.

 

Here's how I connected the red dot tower to the 1100/870 scope mount. Had to counter sink the head of the bolts to clear the top of the receiver.

 

Now just need to put patten on paper. Then I'll lock the vertical in place by adding one more bolt in the horizontal top piece.
Just hope all this can help with another person getting back to shooting

Two items that really helped in this project so far...A laser bore sighter and an elevated strap on leather leg bag to rest gun on while in chair shooting. Left arm and hand too weak yet to hold up gun for long time. Sighted in 1100 in living room at 10 yards without firing a single shot. Patterned perfect at 35 yards.

 

The 1100 looks a little different...there's no rib!
Need to to get barrel end as light as i can so my left hand and arm can support the weight better.
This is the older Trap barrel that is silver soldered on. Just preloaded the rib by placing a wedge between rib and barrel then apply heat and off pops rib where posts meet barrel.

 

My TM1 barrel came back from Simmons less rib and a lusterous rebluing. Thank you you guys for a great job.
Also I modified the new high sight post on the Rem 1100 for even less weight.
The TM1 post will attach to the now very short rib.

 

Here's the TM1 with new blueing and shortened rib with sight mount, less red dot sight. Hoping to get well enough to shoot some of the Ohio state shoot.

Thought it would be safer if i converted my guns back to pull triggers...being it's hard for me to open actions if i have to hold back on triggers in case i have to open guns with loaded shell. The TM1 was easy with the removal of some parts. The 1100, I'll just get another trigger group then mess around with the Phillip C trigger.

 

Ok, got both guns scoped out with Burris sights. Only shooting I'v done so far is on the pattern board and controling the Staring population.
After an exstensive weight reduction to both guns. The TM1 including the new site and mount went from 10 to 7.8 lbs. The 1100 is now down to 8.4 lbs. Sans rib and stock work on both guns including plenty of forarm work on the Perazzi.

 

Need to reblue the ribless 1100 like the Perazzi.

 

Had to narrow the forarm so my left hand can get a good grasp. I need to wear a speacial glove on that hand.
Compare the post before this one to amount of wood removed.

 

Had to have a custom hand brace made to hold my wrist straight out and to grasp around the forend. Hence the cut down forend.

 

Talk about FUN!!! Finally got to go out and smoked some clays. Only shot at 25 untill my strength gave out. Extremely happy with results. It was one big learning experiance shooting without seeing any barrel except the red dot. Once my arms get stronger I'll start shooting some meat, money and some registered shoots.
Used my foot to help close the action on the Perazzi. One thing for sure, there is no such thing as lifting head off stock or punishing recoil.

 

Needed some device that I could check to see if the red dot might have shifted due to a hard hit. So I borrowed (stole) my wife's hem marker gadget. Just place gun on table with gadget at end of muzzel. Look where the dot appears on rule and mark. Now I have a reference point of 12 7/8'' above muzzel. At scope it is app 13 1/8''.

Cleaned up the scope mount by cutting off extra mounting rail. Drilled and tap for another socket screw. This will make it lighter also. Now to do same on the Rem 1100, aka ''The Hip-O-Matic''.

Yep. Sid Pleasant. I was sitting right next to him when he did it. Another side story. Bueford Bailey was also sitting there. His comment was that a shootoff from the hip was a bad idea that degraded the game and showed the average guy he stood little chance against shooters with the talent level of a Bonillas or Stafford.

Bueford Bailey was one of the great class acts in trapshooting.

 

Could not agree more. Lost several out of state shoot offs to Bailey in Wyoming years ago. If i remember correctly Ray went 14 of 15 and Bonillas quit. I also watched this but not sure if was from the 27 or not. Never have seen a better hip shooter than Ray or a worse shooter than me. Shot 50 from hip on low 7 in skeet and never hit one. Ray Charles would do better than that. It was Sid Pleasant. You are correct.

 

I'm changing back to a pull trigger after years of shooting a release. The problem with the release is that now I'm shooting from the hip I don't have the my shoulder to control the recoil. When shooting the release my whole hand relaxes and my shoulder would absorb most of the kick so I could make a good move to the second clay in doubles. With the pull I have more control since my right hand does not relaxe when trigger is pulled. In singles there was no problem.
So out comes the Phillip C release and relaced with a modified pull, as in 6 pound pull down to 3 pounds. Used a M.CARBO trigger spring kit. The trigger pull is sweet now.

Try relaxing just your trigger finger, not your whole hand.

 

Going to try that. Plus I've noticed that shooting a low held gun, that now my hand rotates away from the pistol grip. So I made an exagerated swollen pistol grip out of leather. Going to do this on both guns. The one in pic is the TM1.

 

Going to try to make a great product even Greater!...with a little luck.
Relocation of 3v Lithium internal power source to external power source.

The single biggest flaw in this Burris Fastfire IMO, is once the battery goes dead I have to unscrew the top half off the scope to replace the dang batt...not good if this has to be done in the heat of competition.
So this morning I ordered electronical gadgetry to TRY to replace batt on outside of RD scope. Hopefully along side of pedestal mount.

 

Another project will be another soft gun case for my other Red Dot pedestal gun. Problem is that on this new case there is no top zipper, just a flap at the end to slide gun in. Wife will add zipper at top just far enough to allow post to slide in.
Also there will be a protective padded cover for the post/red dot scope. There will also be another scope cover for the other soft case that has a pedestal mounted RD scope which is further back in this thread.

 

Now back to relocating 3v Batt to external location. First pic is of factory location after removing top half of red dot. The battery is on underside of top half.
Then i had to remove batt and rewire + and- to a future location. In pic i just did the neg wire. Last pic is where both wires exit aluminum housing. Had to use Dremel tool to notch for wire penetration. Need to wire new batt housing and fasten to post.

 

Are there readily available CR2032 battery enclosures, Rookie from an electronics supplier?
My battery is easily removable & replaced on my CB70301 RED DOT

You can make one using a soft drink bottle complete using a razor cutting just below the cap at the neck, need a base and JB Weld, battery will go under the bottle cap, you get the drift.

DLS, here's what i came up with. I needed a snap off lid that was hinged. I'd have a hard time picking the lid off the ground if I dropped it. My cr2032 batt holder should be here next week, until then, going to use a cr1632 batt holder that I have now.
I get the batt holders from an arospace supplier. They have gold plated contacts.
In the pic there is a cr2032 batt next to the smaller cr1632 which is in the holder. Both are 3v. The lid that has been cut off is next to the batt
.

 

Since I posted a pic of the DIY batt container, I found what might just be the perfect batt container on line. It's a small hinged lid generic pill container. So i ordered a 2.
Here's my version of ''stock cast off'' When holding gun near hip and now my head is fully erect. I have to lean my head slightly to right to keep eye the same axis as barrel. So to remedy this problem, the red dot scope is mounted to the left side of the barrel axis or mounted on the left side of the pedestal. The The Rem 1100 auto aka ''hip-o-matic'' the RD is mounted to the left of pedestal at top, while the TM1 Perazzi is mounted low where the pedestal comes off the barrel.

I've reloaded several 1000 shells...great therapy to strengthen arms. Also note the Terry Jorden wall chart hanging behind reloader. I use this religiously. This is exactly what i see thru the RD scope, no part of gun at all. In fact many times i don't even hold gun.
I just hold arms as if I'm holding gun and practice swinging while arms and neck/head stay perfectly solid...only moving my upper trunk from side to side. On post 3 shooting straight away, I gently rock back on my heels.
My wife finished one soft case She had to add zipper on top since this case only had a rear flap and pedestal won't slide thru it. She also made a padded leather sleeve to fit around scope mount.

 

MY FIRST BIG ADVENTURE... well, sort of
Went to my first competitive shoot since my neck surgeries 1 1/2 years ago. WPAF base had their annual Thanksgiving shoot. I'm not comfortable shooting clay targets on a squad just yet, so I shot the card shoot.
Before I left home (wife has to drive for now) I unscrewed the LT full choke and put in the ultra tight X full Brilly choke in the TM1 P gun. I set the Burris RD to shoot 50/50 at 30 yds.
When we got there we unloaded my electric scooter, placed the Perazzi on my lap, and went to the card shoot and shot.
Well to make a long story even longer, my wife said ''Don't you think you won enough Turkeys ?''. ''Well I guess your right.
I must have been suffering from ''Target Fixation''.
No where during the shoot did I ever feel handicapped...In fact I felt that I had an unfair advantage with my equipment and holding a low gun.

 

That is exactly how you should feel. You're not handicapped, you just are shooting in a different way and from a chair. Good job rookieshooter.

I once presented a fellow posthumously for a special award. He was born in the mid 1800s and died 13 years before I was born. In the late 1800s he lost his arm in an accident. He became so proficient shooting with one arm that he was picked up by DuPont to shoot for the Powder Company. A one-armed professional shooter he was. He would not accept help, loaded his own gun and shot with one arm. In fact, he led the nation in doubles in the early 1900s.

I informed the audience that he was the kind of man who would admonish anyone if he thought they had an ounce of sympathy for him. In his mind, he wasn't handicapped at all. He was simply shooting one armed.

I admire your attitude and I agree with wpt, you will likely be breaking 25 straights again soon.

I found the battery container on-line that I want, a generic pill box. It's mounted above receiver and getting ready to wire the new relocated CR2032 battery holder. The bat holder is laying in the container. Once wired up I'll have some shock absorbing foam encompass the holder. I'll do the Perazzi next.

 

All wired up. Brushed on some liquid electrical tape where wires penetrated the batt holder and side of red dot scope.
Just when you think this project can't get any stranger...it does. Doing a feasibility study of incorporating a 3 volt 70 Ma
solar panel to further enhance the power source. Will have to install it facing more towards the stock since most of the shooting will be to the north. This will pick more of the sun light. Just the thought of it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

 

Here's my brace of ultra high optic fitted trap guns. Still need to add foam around batt.
The 2 solar panels will be here Mon. 1.98'' x 1.98''x 1/8''.
Once the panels are installed on the tower, I might even get better cell phone reception ha ha.

 

Change of venue on the solar panels. Going to use this one and just clip it to the batt when need to. Or I'll extend the neg and pos thru the round case with tabs to clip on alligator clips. This one will do 3v to 12v including diode so there won't be any backfeeding to panel. Will be here between Dec 3-5.

 

Received my solar panel, but I decided to wire up some tabs coming from the batt compartment so i would not have to open and remove batt to charge. Note the 2 tabs coming out of container with the alligator clips clamped on them.
Had to replace a non rechargeable cr2032 to a chargeable lir2032h batt. Now to do the 1100.
The old TM1 Perazzi is going green. Do you think Al Gore would be proud of me lol?

 

I have seen that individual shoot at the Grand in Vandalia. I can't remember who made his barrel, but it was pretty impressive. It looked like he was carrying a flagpole when he moved from station to station in his wheelchair.

 

Ordered a new style carrier release gadget for 1100 ...looks as if it's been on steroids. The factory style is difficult for me to handle, being i have to turn gun on side and fumble around with the button to close. This one i should just just be able to push gun down on knee or push up from bottom.

 

Finally installed the extended and wider carrier release button. And yes it works great. In fact after dropping shell into side port, all I have to do is bump the button on my leg and bingo...shell cycles into breech.
Next on list the barrel will be sent to Simmons gun works to have a small rib about 4'' long to relocate pedestal red dot scope mount on barrel. close to receiver. I've already removed rib.This way there won't be that heavy receiver mount wrapped around the receiver.
Pluse a lot easier to take out trigger. Then a good bluing applied.
