BIG DON played a big part in the creation of the forum. If not for the banter and hostile discussions between Don and his rival Doc Lonshot we might not have this forum. Don and Longshot were part of the greatest trapshooting spectacle in this century. The "Grudge Match" as it was called featured gambling and lots of booze. I relayed the whole episode bird by bird on some old worn out site. Of course I got booted for saying anything good was happening at the Cardinal Center. And here we are. Nearly thirty days later. BIG DON was good for the sport. The trapshooting world will miss him.
Big Don butt phoned me a couple of months ago and we talked for a good 2 hours, we planned to meet in the near future. As we get older call up your old trap shooting buddies cause we are never sure to get that talk. I'm really glad Don and I talked for those 2 hours. RIP
As I got to know Don he was really a very nice guy and he was totally dedicated to our sport of trapshooting and he also was a great competitor. He will really be missed. As Brad stated we really need to take every opportunity to meet with and talk with our shooting friends because we never know if there will be another chance in the future. May Big Don rest in peace. R.I.P. big Don even though I was a nemesis of yours for some of my critical comments about the Silver $- You were a true credit to our sport 635 G aka Chatbrat
I was very sad to learn of Big Don’s passing. Don was a great sport agreeing to take on Doc Longshot in the Grudge Match. They raised a bunch of money for charity. It also reminded shooters of days long ago when challenge matches were held over box birds. Don didn’t have a filter so you could bet he was going to tell you exactly where he stood on any particular issue. I liked that about him! Condolences to his family.
