Two words, "Patriot Act"! Creating terror does not necessarily have to be religion, or politically motivated. I would not describe the participants of the Las Vegas concert as "scared". They don't need to access your account. Once they put your screen name to a individual, they don't need to access your account. It is already out there for EVERYONE to see.

By the way, have you read the bills? The only way they could ask for or obtain passwords, and access to your accounts would be by a court issued warrant. Again, if you don't post stupid chit, they won't go through the hassle and expense to obtain a warrant to see what your PM's say. If you are mentally unstable, you should probably be worried. That would probably be the next warrant search shootout.

Yes, I have read the bills. You will be asked for your social media account info to get a gun. That is without a court order. I don't go to IL or NY, so no skin off my back yet?

Not all social media can be seen by the whole public. You may have a setting on Facebook that only allows friends to see your posts. That is why they will need passwords.

 

I call BS ( not yelling, or in any way hostile). So, where is it stated in these bills that they MUST access your accounts, and you MUST give your passwords in order to purchase a firearm without further cause, so they can see your personal messages and communication without court order?

By the way, if you communicate out in public with someone that may be sketchy of sorts and has murderous tendency traits, that may cause a red flag for you. If it is done in personal closed communication, not so much, until they have reason to get a court order. Then you may want to head for the hills.

Actually, 'possums are one of the cleanest animals to skin. Your chances of getting a disease from skinning a 'possum is very slim. Only us old fur trappers would know this while a damn city slicker would cringe at the thought. I encourage my wife to wear rubber gloves while skinning most animals as my skinning days are over-thumb arthritis makes it more difficult. The bill in Illinoise is similar but DOES NOT say PASSWORDS as far as obtaining them or getting inside personal accounts and search information, other than what is out in public already.

Also, let me highlight this sentence leading off that paragraph;

I can't see how this law would not be challenged and won. It does not say what will happen if you don't give consent, or if the application will be denied because of denial. Either way, this law is not going to fly the way it is without serious challenges.

NY bill pertains to carry and possession of a pistol, or revolver. I can guarantee you the password, and access to your computer for search engine tracing obtainment without further cause will be challenged in court and have to be removed. Does not matter what the clueless yahoo said about the bill, and it's meaning. It may pass and be signed but in the probation period will be challenged I would think. Like I mentioned, public information you post voluntarily is way different that being forced to give private information to obtain a firearm other than your identification.

I am not saying I agree with any of this. Just that sometimes this kind of stuff comes back to bite us, and we will be paying $70 for a brick of .22 shells if you can get them, $180 for an 8 lb'er of pounder if you can find it, and $1500 for a plain basic AR before you know it.

In my opinion if you have the propensity to have to post everything you do, or what your thoughts are on social media while you are awake, you have a mental problem as it is.

 

One more thing, pertaining to the Aurora shooting in Illinois. If the local authorities are going to be responsible for all of this investigation, and time, where are the money and resources going to come from. Obviously in Illinois, the resources and communication were not sufficient to follow up on that nut job, after it was found that the system failed.

And btw I agree with almost everything you said. But this is Illinois. And things are not going to get better. Do you really think they are not going to ask what you said on firearm social medias when you are buying a firearm. Really? And those Bing govt searches wont pop up your name and passwords on other websites?

 

Oh, I know they will! I use the same name on many sites. Makes it real easy for them. That is why I say, don't say incriminating things out in public domain, thinking you are anonymous. You are never anonymous. Neither are your searches. I guarantee you, if you reach red flag status out here in the general public forums, they will know everything about you, down to your underwear preference, without needing your permission.

Besides, I have had more background checks, fingerprints on file, mental and physical exams than probably 95 percent of the population.

In Illinois, even though States have certain powers to legislate for their well being, they obviously can not over step certain boundaries. Just as a background check for you to buy a new gun from a licensed dealer is not unconstitutional, neither is it for a State to rule that all gun transfers within the state must be done through their FOID card system to be a legal transfer. Are they restrictive to some degree, yes, but still less than a CCW permit. It basically is a universal background check system, with identification similar to a driver's license. It is all about identification, accountability, and responsibility. That includes what you do with a legally obtained gun, including whom you sell it to.

The people that are nuts on the outside are usually easy to identify as a danger to society, it is the nuts hidden on the inside that are difficult ones to identify. As I have stated previously, where would be a better place to look to find out what the mentality of someone is, than a place where they feel somewhat anonymous.
