got several older mounts [deer and antelope ]{late 80s} and the noses are looking like they are drying out. the horns on my antelope have lost the darker colors and look like they are drying out. anything I can do at home without sending them to a taxidermist?

The best people to ask are the taxidermist. They can tell you what to do or do it for you.

Black shoe polish, in the sponge tip bottle form. Be careful not to overdo it. You can use a small artist brush to do around the hairline.

I would also ask a taxidermist what they recommend.

Years ago a friend of mine who did some taxidermist work recommended using brake fluid to restore the texture of horns and noses. Put a small amount on a rag and rub over the area.

I use the black paste shoe polish. The wax's and oils condition the nose. try it,it works.

RAID.... Spray it with a can of RAID and wipe it down. My taxidermist buys it by the case!
