I was sorting through my old reloading files today and came across the print I drew for a sleeve that I put on the Powder drop tube, to open up the mouths of shells. I made one, and others liked them so I made more for them. This was 20 yeas ago, but I am sure these would work today if you have a 366, and a friend who may have a lathe and drill press. I attached the print on the off chance you would like to try it.
You are right Kevin. I just used some 3/4" clod rolled bar stock so I didn't need to turn the diameter, drilled a 1/2" hole through it, cut the Approximate 30° nose on the piece by setting the compound on my lathe, and wala ! Drilled and tapped the two holes for set screws, then ran 1/2" reamer down the main hole to clean the burrs from the drill and tap out. I can say I found I didn't have to use two set screws though, one was sufficient. Amazing how nice this works to open up those shells where the crimps just didn't want to stay open, and the wad fingers would hang up on them. I set the the piece so the 3/4" round part went down past the crimp and into the uncrimped area of the shell. This made them stay open just fine. Have fun.
Great idea, I just retired from 42 years working in a machine shop. I miss not being able to whip out something very simple like this. I have a 12, 20 and 28ga 366’s.
