I have a mod 31 16 gauge with a intragal Ploy choke. The choke is part of the barrel not an add on as most were. I've never seen one like it. What makes this gun more rare its a 16 gauge. I think this gun is much more valuable than a standard mod 31. I've owned it for 30 years and never fired it. It's time to sell. It might fill someone's collection. It is in excellent condition, shows very little use for its age. Joescout
I agree with flyersarebest, if it's the only one, I'm thinking its worth 6 figures ! The barrel is not stamped with a choke designation, you loosen the end cap that takes tension the split ring washer which in turn lets you dial your desired restriction. Not a lift trigger. I was a poor guy collector, I could only affort collecting pump trap and Skeet guns some unfired with the original boxes or just very clean. I used to cruise the pawn shops, some buddy's grandkid would hawk grandpa's favorite trap or skeet gun and I was there to help! A pawn shop is where I found this very rare m31 16 gauge. Of course kind of kidding, but as I looked around for comps nothing showed up, went to my old shooters bibles, on line, no luck, Remington forum one guy had a 12 gauge barrel but not the same configuration. One needs to look close to the choke configuration, it was made as part of the barrel. I've got model 12s with Cutts, Polychokes or Lymans all add-on's not so with this gun. One has to stop and think this gun was bought to hunt with, 16 gauge with adjustable choke, no rib, and to be in this condition is quite remarkable. Thanks. Joe
Joe, I asked if it was priceless because you failed to put a price on it. That’s why someone asked, “How much” And Joe, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you don’t have a “one of a kind”. It took me less than 2 minutes to find 6 different references about the 16 gauge with a factory adjustable choke. There was a rough one on an auction site called Farmland Auctions There is a thread on Shotgunworld all about the same gun you have. There is more than one video on YouTube featuring the model you have.
Joe, I hate to be the barer of bad news but guns with added poly chokes made the value not priceless but worthless to most people. I bought my model 31 in 12ga identical to yours 55 years ago and shot everything under the sun with it including deer slugs. I refinished it back to its original condition and gave it to my Grandson as his first shotgun. The model 31 was introduced in 1933 and there were over 35 variations and grades. In 1939 Remington offered the model 31 with a Cutts and the following year with a Poly-Choke, introduction cost was Retail at $48.95. The model 31A was the predecessor of the 870 which is still the bread and butter pump shotgun in the Remington line. Good luck with your sale, I bought a mint 20 ga last year for $300..
Thanks so much for the information, some of which I was able to find, just needed some reinforcement, and again I thank you for your help ! One of my favorite hunting guns is a Remington 1100 20 gauge in 3" magnum I added a Lyman adjustable choke which was cool in the day. Living in Northern Arizona at the time, we could be hunting quail and come across some ducks or geese I could just switch from number 8s and Imcyl to 4s or 6s and full on the spot. I remember when Winchester came out with their 101 with extended knurled chokes barely protruding a 1/2" out of the end of the barrel people thought that looked terrible. What makes this gun different its a "16 gauge" with a built-in factory choke not a "Cutts or add on" over the existing barrel, 20ga and 12ga were much more prevalent. Rizzini makes a 16 gauge sporting on a small frame, 32" barrels just a dream to shoot. Too bad ammo is a little hard to find. Price was $4200.00 two years ago. Don't miss any ! Joescout
If this gun is for sale, IT STILL NEEDS A PRICE Update, 2/2/25 Even though the OP said it was time to sell he sent me a PM saying he really didn’t want to sell it he just wanted some information. ?????????? If I had 2 stick figures banging their heads on the wall I would post it.
