After reading so many posts...........why would the ATA choose to be a not for profit charity org?

Maybe they were looking at what the NSSA/NSCA did?

The gun cost is a drop in the bucket compared to the expense accounts of the ec and chc for travel, lodging, food, etc. to attend the grand, satellite grands, and zone shoots.

The Feds usually monitor the 501-3 organizations as they are held to strict compliance, not that someone could not slip under a rock and go unnoticed for quite some time ... If they would be reported and found to be operating in a gray area as opposed to black or white, they would be more closely monitored for quite sometime ... The Old Phx club operated under a 501-c 3 status, we had to form a second corporation to operate under for the registered shoots or we would of been in violation and that status would of been taken away ... Roger took care of that being as he was the Treasurer and all was well, we did get audited quite regularly for a few years ... There were also limitation to the advertising we could do unless we did it under the second Corp so we had to watch what we were (pay attention) doing to stay within the regulations ... I'm not sure the advantages outweigh the negatives , again that would be something that Roger was well versed in and he stayed on top of it to keep us out of hot water with the Feds ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
