Hey anyone with some knowledge. I have about $800.00 and some change to spend. Where can I get the bigger bang for the buck. AK or AR. I want the best I can get if shit hit the fan.
When the shit hits the fan either one will be better then neither one of them ... I have shot both and they will get the job done ... Personal preference is subjective at best ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Both are good choices, for me it would be an AR15. Seems there are more accessories to trick out the AR platform. Stocks, forearms, picanniny rail stuff. Change barrels or even barrel/caliber. I know alot of people that build AR's, not so much on AK's. Ammo for either one will be hard to find for awhile. Just my opinion.
I own both and shoot both. The AR platform has the versatility to change upper receivers with barrels for different calibers which is favorable for hunting and target shooting. You can get an upper in the AK 7.62 caliber.
I forget which podcast I heard it on, but one of the hosts put the AK vs AR debate in a funny perspective. He said that the AR platform is like the Honda Civic of guns in that you put a bunch of useless accessories on it just to look cool. Whereas the AK platform is the work truck of guns in that it will always get the job done and never fails and doesn't care about looking cool. The only defense that AR fanboys can ever come up with is the accuracy issue. The reality is if God forbid you have to use said guns in a defense scenario, it's gonna happen well within shotgun range and at that close of a distance the accuracy from the AK and AR are gonna be virtually identical.
