My 92 year old Mom has an 04 Mercury Gran Marquis with 60,000 miles. She doesn't drive anymore but still wants to keep a vehicle so when she needs to go to doctors appointment, grocery, church one of her kids can drive her in her car. Anyway - we haven't did a dam thing to that car except regular oil changes and a couple of batteries, and new set of tires. I did change the air filter in it 6 or 7 years ago. Anyway got to thinking since the car is now 15 years old maybe I should change the anti freeze since it is original. Anyway popped the hood and tested the anti freeze and the tester says the anti freeze is still good to better than - 30. I got to thinking why in the hell am I even thinking about changing it. - Am I wrong in leaving it alone?
Sample looked like it was new. I figured with the car being 15 years old, I would change the anti freeze, serpentine belt, and radiator hoses, but every time I pop the hood - everything still looks brand new and I just figure - why mess with it? Still think I might put some rust inhibitor and some water pump lube in it even if I don't change the anti freeze.
If it tested good, and looks good, My feeling, "If it aint broke, Don't fix it". The anti freeze is probably still the "green stuff" that you mix 50/50. DONT mix it with the newer red stuff even if it says universal, it will turn to chocolate pudding. I think you have done everything you need to do. Bless your Mom since she is still driving, my 94 y/o dad is still driving and sharp as a tack.
