870 Competition - why Remington quit making them?

    Strange that the 870 Competitions production stopped just as shells were getting hotter and hotter. I never owned one but I have a few friends that shot them well.

    Does anyone know why Remington quit this model?

    I had a FFL when they first came out. The 2 I got had so- so wood, probably TB quality or lower.
    I think pump gun shooters were turned off by the fact that it was a single shot pump gun.
    However, they were reputed to have great chokes and great shooters.
