ur right (i hope) biggun,i have several friends that shoot a fair amount of targets but only at these two places
Anyone know what the program is going to be? It is not listed on the Cardinal Center site yet? Doug Allison
Sounds like great news. The cardinal center needs to start posting more on facebook and their web page. I live 20 minutes from the cardinal, getting any information from them is all but impossible. Another thing some one needs to address is maybe posting shoots in the newspaper. Lots of the older guys don't do computers.
I know a lot of the smaller clubs may not be in favor of this, but personally I welcome the added dates.
Yes, this may not go down well at first. The Ohio clubs may have more meat shoots in between the ATA shoots at the CC. Also, from what I hear registered shooting is only 15% of shooting in OH and PA. This may be something that will draw from outside the state. Also there may be a lot of RVs and trailers that are left year round now. It is very resort-like with indoor swimming, archery and sporting clays.
We added June 6-7 and July 17-19. No names yet but that information with the program flyers will be found on our website and facebook page soon. The shoot in September is a private event for the Okobojis. We are considering a shoot around labor day but not quite sure yet. Everyone should look forward to big purses and great prizes at our events this year. Luke
Lazerwizard- those wooden clay targets were just a token trophy for everyone who won the real prize of the Cabelas gift cards. Just a little momento not meaning to be overly extravagant. We will still be doing Cabelas gift cards for the Buckeye this year but I will work on a higher quality token trophy.
I would love to hear your guys ideas on how the ohio shooters can utilize the Cardinal Center. I am on a quest to keep the parking lot full so all ideas will be considered.
Hit Dysinger up for a few. He probably has a garage full. You can take his name and event title off and re-purpose them. He probably still has the one he lucked into when I broke that 196 or 197 in the Clay Target Championship back in 1978. THAT WAS MY TROPHY. I WAS SUPPOSED TO WIN IT. See, I don't hold a grudge. BETTER YET! Leave his name on it. Wouldn't that be a hoot? "Hey ________, where did you win that nice trophy? The Cardinal Center Wow, nice, which event? Class _, shot pretty good I did. Hey?, this is for some shoot in some other state. Yep, I know. What's up with that? How did you win at the CC but it is for some other event in some other state? Doesn't matter, look at the name on the trophy. Holy crap, you got one of Dysingers old trophies! Yep, he had to hand it to me too. Flyersarebest
1978? Must of taken Brad 2 days to get to Vandalia from Paulding Co. Average speed of a horse and carriage is 4.5 mph!
Choosing trophies must be a difficult, thankless job. Opinions vary so wildly; often the ones I like others hate, and vice versa. Shooters seem to agree almost unanimously though, that CC's trophies/prizes are a little weak in general. Especially given the size of the events. Regardless of such trivial matters, Cardinal is an absolutely FANTASTIC facility and it is wonderful to see that they are adding events. -Gary
I'd rather have a wooden clay target trophy and a $250 Cabelas gift cert than a pewter plate, glass something, or a picture.
Luke, I would give some special attention to area clubs and their ATA shoot dates. Don't want to compete with "feeder clubs" that will ultimately send shooters to your big shoots....like the State shoot. Look at Jaqua's past dates which are now void, and possibly fill some of those dates.
There really arent any area clubs to compete with. Airport gun club in Lancaster...about 30 mi SE, closed in December. Jaquas in Findlay closed this year. I live about 12 miles from Cardinal. Mud Run, North Lawrence, and Madison County are the closest clubs throwing ATA targets. The closest of those is about 110 mi round trip.
I had a campsite for all 3 shoots last year and have the same campsite for this year as well. I live 225 miles away and have gone over at least one day early and have had a very good time every time. I would like to see more shoots there but for it to be advantageous for me to pull camper that far I like to see a min. of 3 day shoots. We left the camper there last year between the Buckeye Classic and the Ohio State Shoot. That worked out very well for us. It cost $50.00 for that. I was told this year it would cost $100.00 to do the same thing. If that is right I will just pull it home between shoots. The camping is 1st class all the way. Ross Randall
According to their website.........It will cost $100. this year. I agree that sounds like alot...but can you pull it 450 miles for $100?
What about the NW zone shoot? Prizes and trophies "money" always works or maybe gift cards to some of the vendors on site. Sportsmens den, A.J. Brenner, Rods, The farmstead, Shamrock leather, Maybe even gift cards to food vendors, bunker trap or sporting clays, tokens for practice etc. Cabelas is ok but their prices suck! You could also do honor shoots or memorial shoots, maybe pay entrance fees to upcoming events. If you work with the vendors maybe they will give you a discount that you could pass onto the shooters. Good Luck I love shooting the Cardinal.
The extra shoots should go a long way to making a good club even better. Looks like they have picked up some prime dates.
As far as coming home and going back without the camper vs pulling it, it is almost a toss up at a $100.00 so I will just bring it home this year and take it back. Plus if I am not mistaken there is an extra week between the two shoots this year. I might use it here in between shoots. We just bought a new one since last year so I would more than likely enjoy it more if it were here so we can use it between shoots. I really do enjoy shooting at the CC and just hope I can get to the added ones as well. Vacation time will be the deciding factor on just what I can do.
If they really doubled the price it may have been to cover liability insurance. Somebody with an unused acre nearby could make a few bucks. -Gary
Ross Randall said: "Plus if I am not mistaken there is an extra week between the two shoots this year." I didnt realize that. Longer storage time probably accounts for the price increase.
Gary, Their liability insurance is not affected by a even 100 campers sitting there for 2 weeks or more. I doubt that was even discussed with the broker. It's probably a yearly blanket policy. This increase from $50 to $100 is a bit steep for me. I go to 4-5 Sporting shoots at Cardinal each year, and even the tree lots are seldom, if ever full. My lot is on the stone in the 600's section, and I've been there in between shoots....no one is renting those lots between shoots. I can see the $50 to cover the normal stuff ( security, maint., power), and many leave their refrig. on, full of food, but I think this is hosing the camper/shooters. I spend $400+ for 3 weeks of real camping during a shoots that have demand, and then another $100 just to leave my camper there when little,.....damn near nothing is happening? How much do we spend there in those 3 weeks on secondary stuff? Camper stuff, Ice, laundry, etc.? and they double the cost to leave the camper there? If they'd of bumped it to $60 or even $70, few would bitch, but double?
With 3 more dates there are definitely going to be some more sites rented year round by shooters. I hope they don't forget about the little guys. Inch by inch we get closer to the Buckeye Classic.
OK Rosey, I just thought it might have become an issue because the owner isn't there and the staff is thin. I don't know much about insurance. -Gary
No big deal.....it just wasn't handled in the best way. The stone lot is a ghost town between trap shoots. I've got an idea. Charge the tree dwellers $200 to leave it there and the stone minions $o! Obamanomics!
You want a major shoot in July? What happened to the the old unwritten agreement between OH, IN and Mi not to try and damage the others State shoot? MI and IN state shoots are in July. Are they going to make you buy camping for additional shoots inorder to keep your spots for the current 3 majors? Lefty
rosey, dont be picken on the tree campers, they always welcome you with a cold adult beverage. Zimmie
Having more shoots at the CC is making good use of the facility, I think some of their shoots are going to surpass Sparta.
I'll comment on this. I'm also a 600 site, 3 shoot package. Fifty dollars was reasonable and was a factor for me attending all three shoots. A Hundred is a bit much for the camper to just sit for 2-3 weeks. I break mine down, nothing out or hooked up during the lag. When I heard of the increase I even asked if I could put it off my site in some out of the way area for the $50. No go. So this year I will be going to the Buckeye and Cardinal Classic only. Going to skip Ohio State Shoot entirely. While the extra $50 is not the only factor it is certainly one considered in my decision. Love the place and am looking forward to going this year.
