I think this is the 10 year anniversary of Illinois and the WSRC turning it's back on the SCTP. It was a last minute decision made buy the Illinois Governor and it's lawmakers to halt shooting at the WSRC. The last minute decision appeared to be made with the purpose of hurting the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The decision was made right before the College SCTP shoot.

Jack and the Cardinal Center put their employees into overdrive. Just a few weeks later the College Competition was held at the Cardinal Center.

Jack later gave the SCTP a controversial one year contract following that. Many thought Jack should have demanded a multi-year contract. Friends of Jack, like Brad Dysinger and others on this forum that had Jack's ear, encouraged him to do a one year deal.

Then came a 10 year deal.

    Just reminiscing......

They should have offered the kids free targets.

I was at the meeting when the SCTP and Jack sat down to talk about the deal. The SCTP wanted a one year deal because of the ATA kicking them out of Illinois and wanting to be ABLE to go back to sparta if the CC didn't work out. Jack wanted a multi year deal... I think 5 but maybe 3 years. Jack was balking and it looked to me that the SCTP deal was on the rocks. I talked with Jack and told him the if it was me I'd take the one year. First off if the SCTP didn't want to be at the CC and thought Sparta was better the CC didn't want them anyhow. I was certain that once the moms, pops, and grandparents and siblings saw what the Columbus area had to offer they wouldn't want to go back to Sparta. Maybe a three year deal off the bat wouldn't be something the Cardinal would want either.

So the one year deal was signed and then the next year another deal and then another. I guess we know were the families wanted to be. Free targets not that important.
