There are several factors why you should try the AR-15 for home defense. Firstly, you need to understand that this gun can be customized to any extent. You can use it to take down multiple targets. Since the weapon has a 20-30 round magazine capacity, you need not worry at all. The main thing is that this firearm is lightweight and highly versatile. When you look into several weapons, you can conclude that the AR-15 is easy to use. It is a fine gun that is suited for beginners. People shoot better with a carbine. If you ever don’t believe his, you have to go to the shooting range and try it out.
An AR-15,IMHO, should only be used from a fixed defensive position, also over penetration can be a real problem ,especially in a residential sub division My two go to guns for home defense are a FN-57, with 30 rd mags & a M1-carbine with 30 rd mags-- The St Louis homeowners would have been better off if they stayed inside their home & established a defense point behind a second story vantage point
Over penetration is a big problem. Small hole. 12ga buckshot is a lot more devastating at close range.
Omg. You just plagiarized the documentary I just watched. You claiming that statement as your own? The movie that your post came from verbatim is The Right To Bare Arms.
Rich, does it really matter? I think our new member was just trying to tell us his opinion and used that as some sort of example. And I think everyone should have the right to walk around in a shirt with the sleeves cut off. Winston, you probably should have used some quotation marks " " and told us where you saw it. BTW, I have dozens of home defense guns to choose from and I would have to agree that the short barrel shotgun would be my first choice. As far as the shells? My house is only 48 FEET long. Most of the distances between an entry point and where I would be standing/kneeling would probably be 15 feet or closer. At that range nothing is going to open up. A 3 inch anything is going to stop the intruder pretty quick. Just sayin....
Btw, watch “The Right to Bare arms” if you haven’t. It shows how a nerdy type city dwelling Hollywood film maker becomes a new gun owner. My post looks ruder today than it was meant to be. Sorry.
In my opinion, a shotgun is the best home defense weapon. The choice of loads are great, slugs, buck, or shot. Easy to reload if needed and great intimidation factor.
No need to apologize. I typed in The Right To Bare Arms and all I keep getting is pictures of Larry the Cable Guy.
Maybe I’ll get it right this time. The movie name is “Keep and Bear” by Darren Doane. I watched it on Amazon, but there’s a high likelihood I’m wrong about the channel. I been wrong about everything else. Concerning home defense. I’d grab my 870 Tactical first. I told the Missus that if she just racks it, most people will go the other way. I wouldn’t feel comfortable firing an AR in my house. The neighbors are too close. Couldn’t live with myself if I hit an innocent.
I found an old Model 12 with a short barrel and cutts on it at a garage sale that I keep on the ready along with my Glock just in case some one trips the alarm and ignores my dog barking, from that point on things will get pretty ugly and probably quite messy ... The Model 12 is one of the old ones (pre 64) where you can hold the trigger and keep on pumping until its empty ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
