Loaded up the truck and headed out at 0900 to go shoot Trap at the local MWR Redstone Arsenal field, arrived at 0930 and as usual turned around and came back home. Why you ask? Because the Skeet shooters out number the Trap shooters at least 10 to 1 and dominate the field on any given day. MWR Redstone built this nice brand new combination Skeet/Trap field and in the middle of construction ran out of money so they ended up with just one vice two combination Skeet/Trap fields. As a matter of fact they built a very nice block High-House but had to use a Sea-Land container for the low house due to funds. It's first come first serve, no scheduling time or anyway to know if it's in use by who unless you just drive out. Hour round trip drive for me. I dropped an ICE complaint today at the recommendation of the MWR employees who understand the issue and deal with it the best they can. They agree it was poorly designed and now poorly managed to accommodate both Skeet and Trap shooters. Anyway that was my morning today. I'm at a point of just not trying to go out there anymore but my shooting locations are very limited in my area. Dennis
Your problem is you have to nice of weather down there - Here in Wisconsin Skeeters are like our state insect -the mosquito - only shows up when the weather is over 50 and disappears when it cools down .
apparently you have never fallowed after a skeet squad! - Like watching a old ladies coffee clutch-More talking than shooting -Could shoot two round of trap before they get half way done - that's if there isn't a couple of auto loaders in the group chasing empties after each shot- should have brought up Covid social distancing to the group . - Worked all summer at our club - Trap shooters where exempted - We always are nine foot apart !
No Trap shooters present and I have never ran into a Trap Shooter at that location. It's not heavily used but the Skeet guy out Number the Trap guys 7 to 1 per the MWR manager. I did get a reply back from my ICE complaint the MWR manager was kind enough to admit there was a problem and he was reaching out to other MWR locations and inquiring about some kind of reservation option. Not sure if anything will come of it but it was nice to hear back from him. Like I said it's a little one field on-base location so foot traffic is low but getting on is not so low. Add that I'm still doing a 40 hr work week and can only get out there on weekends. I will figure it out over time as to when the best time to show up is.
Maybe ask the skeet shooters what time they show up? Then get there before they do. Find out the place's hours and be in the parking before they open. Greet the manager, if they have one, with a coffee and ask him to pull a few rounds for you.
Yea it's not that kind of place. Pretty much self service, sign in get a voice call and open the Trap house up yourself pay on the way out. The Skeet guys seem to bunch up every other Sun AM so I will just call ahead and hope for the best.
Even better. You don't need anyone to pull. Get there before the rest of them show up and tell them you won't be long, just going to shoot a couple hundred.
