If you are shooting here at Linn Creek there is a good chance you are missing a few on your squad. Too hot! No camping! Motels over $150. Unfair background unless you know someone. We had better background in PA. This has become a joke. The joke is on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. The membership deserves the spoils. Long drive home. See you at the CC.
Hi Hapless....I have taken a thousand pictures over the last two years at Pennsylvania. I haven’t seen too many partial squads. I am not at Linn Creek yet but the reports I am getting is there are quite a few partial squads. Weather and motel costs were expected variables. Or are the squads all full there?
I’m going Tuesday. I’ll take pics, will be with phone so not as good as Family Guys, don’t bitch I’m not a professional. I’ll also try to find out motel price variables.
You are probably right. After all, PA and OH were down a wopping what? 2% to 4% LOL The 'grand' will probably be way up.
The forum can use more pictures. Thanks for the effort. We don’t get a lot of pictures of Linn Creek.
There are a lot of good scores being shot. Do not know what banks they are being shot on, but they are there. Shooter numbers seem to be way down. Looks like another goof by the EC, what do you shooters expect from them ? They have a 25 year history of screw ups. Do not blame Linn Creek they are trying to put on the GRAND against some pretty stiff odds. Roger C.
I just looked at the top scores in each event and which bank they were shot on. It appears that the top scores are being shot from end to end. I didn’t notice any clustering of top scores on any bank or grouping of banks.
If the folks in Linn Creek payed the $250,000 Lynn ( the Talking Head ) Gipson was demanding they might be taking a considerable hit, hope they make out all right when it is all over ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Just for giggles I picked out one of the top shooters at the Grand right now and looked up what banks he was shooting on. I chose to look up Keith Ditto because he is at the top of the preliminary HOA scores. Keith shot 13 preliminary events over 10 different banks! So far he has shot banks 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22. One tough shooter no matter what bank he is on!
Then the so called good shooters should be pushing for drawing for banks instead of getting the preferred banks right!!! Tooo many primadonnas!
Wilson; The good scores are being shot acrost all banks. That is what was posted. They are throwing good targets. Most likely better than what would have been thrown at Sparta. Tha scores being posted are a good example of why the sport needs to revert to the target setting of when the sport was in its hey day, with added yardage of at LEAST 3 YDS. ON THE HANDICAP Game, longer wider 16 yrd targets, wider longer doubles. Do not let people reset targets to their liking, SET THEM BY THE BOOK. ON A LIGHTER NOTE, I THINK WE SHOULD REQUIRE ALL BOD MEMBERS TO TAKE A PHYICAL. JUST TO MAKE SURE THE EC HAS NOT CASTERATED THEM. NONE OF THEM SEEM TO HAVE ANY BALLS. Roger C.
Hot and Humid in August. I never new. Im hoping this ends up being good for the club at Lynn Creek. My favorite trip of the year is the Fall HDC. They moved the dates for this shoot years ago to the end of Sept. Great shoot! Great weather! Great town!
If you “picked out” the shooter, then the selection isn’t random. Banks 1-5 are much more challenging. How many of the top ten shooters shot those banks? Tell us how much money was won on banks 1-5 vs 17-22.
Shooting the grand in Missouri in this heat / weather will always have the same outcome. I understand why their big shoot is in the fall.
Please explain to me where I ever said anything about a “random” selection. I was just pointing out that no matter where an event is held there will be whinny ass bitch bots that couldn’t break a 100 if they drove over a case of targets with a pick up truck, complaining that someone else is only shooting good scores because they get the “good banks”. I like drawing for banks because I think it’s fun. But just because I like it doesn’t mean I feel other shooters should be pushing for a random draw. I don’t believe I have the right to tell other shooters what should or shouldn’t matter to them. This is a trap shoot not a BLM rally. Drawing for banks is not a panacea that will magically turn a bad shooter into a good one. There is no way of knowing how much money was won on which banks because we don’t know who played what options. But in event 1 the 100 straights were shot on the following banks: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28. Please note that of your preferred group of banks 17-22 there were NO 100’s on bank 17, 19, 21 or 22. Seems odd if those are the only good banks. What’s next, want to discuss 7 1/2’s vs. 8’s?
No it isn’t. And why would a person that has the pick of banks want banks drawn? The annointed elitists have a mathematical advantage. Why give that up? They are called preferred banks for a reason. Money and math. $$$$
Sorry no pics yet. Here is my take on the 2020 Grand American. Missouri did a phenomenal amount of work to pull this off. Grounds are mowed but somewhat muddy, no big deal. Camping is very crowded but everyone is making the best of it. Trap machines are breaking and throwing shitty targets, doubles mostly. Speakers are so so. Vendor row is practically nonexistent. The vendors that showed up have a limited supply of used and new guns For Sale or Trade. I’ve talked with several shooters and all have had trouble with Traps and speakers. It is what it is, a knee jerk reaction to a long term problem, Illinois politics. I will get pics but don’t expect much, there is not much to see.
trapshooter47, Sorry to hear of the problems, but they should be expected to some extent. As for the vender row ,camping, and parking the shooters can thank the ATA, and the EC for all of the mistakes they have made over the last 25 years. The Linn Creek club is trying to bail their sorry ass out, and the shooters are paying for their dumb ass moves. Maybe this will motivate the members to take charge of the organization while there is still enough left to salvage. Time to get rid of the total EC, and purge the BALL LESS B.O.D.. And get voice votes on all items on the agendas. All new business approved at any meeting should not take affect for at least 30 days after the meeting minutes are posted to all members. Roger C.
I agree Roger, I wanted to give a non biased opinion. I gave up on registered targets a few years ago. I am not shooting at the Grand, I came out with a buddy just to get away for a few days. I’ve watched most of the traps and can attest that there are some problems, the management takes care of it quickly only to have to return and change or fix something else, not always and not on all traps. As far as places to stay and food and entertainment for family members there is plenty. The ATA should cut ties with Illinois at all and any cost but I don’t think Lynn Creek is the only option. There is room for expansion from what I understand but I believe that moving further west would hurt attendance even with all the amenities available. I’m not up to speed with the EC and B O D only because I’m not interested in donating to something where there truly is no return on opinions that members voice. Anyway I said I’d report my experience at the Grand and there it is. I’ll get some pics posted in a day or so.
In defense of the folks at the Linn Creek facility, not knowing how far ahead of time they were notified the grand was supposed to be held there it sounds like they are doing a reasonably good job in getting things done ... I do know when we hosted the Spring Grand at the Old Phx Club we were planning on and making arrangements months in advance to be set up and ready, even then we didn't always get out ahead of things and have everything prepared and had things happen from time to time that created a stumbling block ... It is really easy to say how bad things are and pick things apart when all you have to do is show up and shoot ... We would get there at 5 AM to get things ready and usually stay until midnight or later to get things wrapped up after the shooting, shoot offs etc. were done ... I did find that more times than not we had a number of shooters who gladly pitched in and gave us a hand if things got really bad, usually all they got for it was a sincere thank you and maybe a beer or two ... I have not taken the time to search for the numbers, but bigger shoots can entail a lot more than what people see ... Congratulations to the folks at Linn Creek for getting it done and being able to save the ATA's ass from their own existence one more time ... WPT ... (YAC) ... I am sincerely glad I do not have to do that anymore, but it was worth it at the time ...
WPT you are exactly right. It is no fault of the people at Linn Creek, they are all doing an excellent job with the task they took on. Given the short time frame they had to pull this off for the ATA. You can look around to see new electrical hook ups and water hook ups. There seems to have been a monumental effort to beef up the infrastructure of the gunclub to accommodate the Grand American. It appears they have enough staff on hand to keep the ball rolling. I’m not sure who paid for the upgrades but it only improved what they had. The vendors I have talked with seem positive and friendly as always. Once again this is only my view of what is happening, and I’ll say it again, the ATA needs to cut any and all ties with the state of Illinois at any cost and find a Home of their own. Nothing good comes from Illinois and the corrupt politicians. The ATA should look long and hard at its own infrastructure and do some housecleaning. It’s a big job but with little bites the task doesn’t seem so large.
Why would the ATA invest millions of it's own $$ in a dying sport? Besides, if you leave all that money lying in one spot someone will find a way to spend it at a casino hoping to make that pile even larger. Until ATA management finds a way to attract other than trinket shooters this sport's going nowhere.
Not sure where anyone was staying that was costing $150 a night. Most of the motels are less than $100. Mine was $65 taxes included.
If the ATA doesn’t invest in the sport they are doomed anyway. Trinkets and points are what shooters seem to want. I also heard the ATA was getting a percentage off every flat of shells to go towards trophies. Don’t know if it’s true but I heard it nonetheless.
