I’ve only had this happen a couple times but can’t figure out why. The only logical thing I can think of is the old primer was stuck. What do y’all think

I have never seen one bulged out like that but as you say, it was probably a stuck primer

It has happened to me on my mec 900. A piece of shot is caught between the shell lifter and the collet- push the shell liter up and a piece of shot will fall out, at least on my mec, problem solved.

I agree with Geno12. anything stopping the shell lifter from falling will do it. irregular hull base as well. easy to do on the hydraulic machines. tmc

It happened because your shell never made it to the bottom of the collet.

There are two reasons that typically can cause that.

The first is debris caught in-between the collet and the shell lifter preventing the shell lifter from dropping all the way to the bottom.

The second is having your wad guide set too low which also prevents the shell lifter from falling completely.

Seen this too many times. Those other guys ar right, your collet needs a bath. Brake Clean then the smallest amount of lube possible. Dirty shot + powder + lube makes an unholy mess.

Debris is most likely the issue but let me offer you one other suggestion. When you insert your empty hull into the collet station make 100% certain that the hull is pushed to the far back side of the station! I can promise you that it makes a difference on my 12 and 28ga. 9000..........YMMV..........

I found this to be the issue. The picture posted was hall 3 on a brand new machine.

That happens when the empty shell does not drop to the bottom of the sizing collet. Thus it is not seated on the bottom. Roger C.
