Leonidas I typed my post to you very slowly so you could understand what I was saying, but I need to go slower. The Grudge Match was held at the Cardinal Center and it was and is a Cardinal Center thing. Is that slow enough?

Also good luck with your 4 person "tag team" challenge at Sparta If it's convenient I may even watch. I was among the approximately 800 who watched the Cardinal Center Grudge Match, and yes there was a overall winner. Made a nice amount of money for charity also.

If there are any proceeds from this event what charity will they go to or will you reap the windfall benefits for yourself ? Just asking?

It would be interesting to find or know the geographical center of the ATA population. I am on the west coast, I could believe though, the center of population is east of Sparta. Not the center of where each ATA member lives as that is probably be in some ocean, but center of population by density, or maybe where would the most efficient place would be to hold a major event. Limited to North America I guess.

Do you know Sparta is the center of the masses, or do you perceive it as such?

    Shoot well.

The intersection of US40"National Rd" and US25 "The Dixie Highway" is the crossroads in the center of Vandalia, Ohio and this intersection is called the crossroads of America.

In the early 1920's it was stated that not only was Vandalia close to the population center of America Vandalia was more importantly close to the center of the trapshooting population of America. This was stated by the trapshooting officials and was a big reason for Vandalia being chosen to be the home grounds. In 1912 the Grand was held at Springfield Ill. and the 1913 Grand was held in Dayton O, with 33% more entries than the previous Grand had.

I wrote an article that was published in the August 2012 issue of Shotgun Sports about the 1913 Grand and why the ATA came to Vandalia in 1924 for it's home grounds. The trapshooting population center was close to Vandalia before the Grand located in Vandalia and it is still very close to the trapshooting population center of America 10 years after the Grand has left Vandalia. This is not to diminish the Grand being in Sparta,it is only to reply to John as to the history of the Grand.

Someday you people will look outside and see it's not 1920 anymore. The population has moved west and the Grand is gone.

If you have some "creditable proof" of Ohio being the center of the trapshooting community please share.

You can check with the clay target distributors. That will help you with your confusion. They can tell you how many targets are thrown in PA and OH.

Targets thrown has nothing to do with the number of people per square mile. I can't even fathom how you got to that point?

Hopefuly that will help with your confusion between targets and people.

Who would really care about the number of people. The number of people like in Illinois if you used that number would include gun haters. I would include the number of targets and shooters when marketing to trap shooters. Marketing 101. Not to tough.

To put either theory to a test you could check the number at the shoot in Sparta. The shoot with the label "grand" has attendance figures that are the same as during the Korean War. The argument is insignificant. The trap shooters are where they are and the states with the shooters are being more successful.

The CC I would expect to add at least one stretch of buildings if not 2. They are adding more dates attracting more vendors.

The scary part is that registered shooting comprises only about 15% of the targets thrown in PA and OH.

    Leonitas,
All the arguments and mirrors aren't going to put shooters where they aren't. It must be very frustrating.

I don't know about you guys but I just looked outside and checked. It's 2015
In 2014 the number of shooters that actually shot the GAH was what? Somewhere around 1600?

By what year will the "GRAND" acually be the number of shooters that signs up for the GAH?

The answer to the usual question coming from the "ATA is all holy" crowd is.

NO I DIDN'T AND NEVER WILL DRIVE TO SPARTA TO SHOOT!!!!

YES IF IT WAS CLOSSER TO ME I WOULD!!!!!

And yes I can say that because I supported the ATA and shot the GAH BEFORE it moved.

An airport in your front yard and close to all necessary amenities-who doesn't remember getting off the plane and hearing all those pops. If you weren't excited before you sure got excited then. Dinners at the Shuckin' Shack when wives didn't always protest going to a shoot. Yes, I'll travel to the SD again this year as I have for the last 30 because FL. has what Sparta will never have and distance doesn't matter. I wish it luck!

I competed in my first grand american handicap event in 1957 and I have competed in every one since for a total of 58. I believe that if you check out the records the 2014 Grand American Handicap championship event had the smallest number of entries of any that I have ever shot in. Registered shooting has lost numbers for several reasons over the last years. The big decline in Grand American attendance at Sparta has been the lack of the drive in shooters that would drive in to just shoot the grand, or maybe the clay target and the preliminary along with the grand. Now the numbers remain more consistent during the championship events where before there would be a spike in entries the last few days.

I really enjoy shooting registered targets and I still like to compete, but the continuing decline in entries is a great concern to me. It just seems to me that if more shooters could look at the history of our sport with an open mind more shooters could proactively look toward helping the sport in the future. Just my opinion.

I agree with you Dave open minds can accomplish many positive solutions. I have only attended 7 Grands 4 in Ohio and am making plans to attend make my 4th in Sparta this year. I will never catch your outstanding attendance record you are real dedicated shooter. If we had more like you most of this debate would not exist. In my mind if everyone of us would bring a new shooter or two into our sport it can grow this has to start on the ground level leave the bashing at home not many people want politics or drama in there recreational pursuits.

Smoking357. I hope you do not let the personalities above interfere with your entertainment. You do not have to shoot registered to enjoy the sport. 1 of the above doesn't shoot, 1 never shot out of his state and if you met Big Don in person you may think he is much different than his penmanship implies. jmho

It's the rest of the TS.com bunch, too. Any idea is met with "Yeah, what's your average?" "Well, so-and-so has a higher average, so his opinion counts a lot more than yours."

And when you suggest speeding up the targets and widening the angles or introducing elevation changes to the targets, they call it "dumbing down" the sport and get furious at you for suggesting changes.

They also say "If you don't run a 300 straight, you shouldn't be suggesting making the targets harder." Like I want to stick around for 300 straight hits.

I got to the point where I'm not bad at American trap. I'm from the video game generation. If I don't level up, I lose interest. I'm not going to spend over $50 to hit from 92-96 targets only to get told those averages suck.

I always liked reading Longshot's posts at TS.com. I also liked how Gary is willing to go out and try something new. I doubt Gary would run from a few rounds of Wobble/Continental Trap. I saw Gary's Grudge brick at Buckeye. I had a great laugh.

I have been in hospital, Nursing Home, Rehab, and now wheelchair bound, healing of stump is going great, takes time for the incisions to properly heal, first cast of stump is May 21st, and measuring for prosthethis, I will be at Ohio State Shoot to meet Roger Covelski in area of food court, would like to participate in the Miss and Out on Monday if any way possible, even from wheelchair. The grudge match would have to be held at Cardinal Center, the Grudge Match Center of the World.

Weasel Out: Been out of contact since late February, in pain, and then had foot removed, I think I could beat you sitting on the ground if that would be possible, come to the Cardinal Center Food Court during Ohio State Shoot and i'll discuss it with you. I have never had a prosthesis before and do not know how long it takes to get one plus the rehab for using it.
Maybe we could put our asses in wheelchairs and go for it at the Cardinal Center, Grudge Match Center of the World.
Maybe Zolton could put you on at July 18th at the Brad Dysinger Grudge Match in Bolivar, Ohio? That is if you qualify

Leonidas I will say that it is a beautiful picture of our state bird that you have on your posts. Our Ohio Cardinal is a beautiful bird and we have a beautiful Cardinal Shooting Grounds. Glad you are advertising for us Buckeyes.

Gary wouldn't you like to buy Leonidas for what he knows about trap shooting and be able to sell him for what he thinks he knows. Why wast your time with him ? You are the Grudge Match Champion retired and undefeated. I believe he thinks he might have a chance if you only have 1 leg to stand on.

Well Doc. seeing that you felt the need to bring up old posts here is what I'm willing to do. One time offer and then it's gone for good.

I will meet you and shoot a 50 - 50 -50 bird program singles handicap (what ever yardage you want) and doubles. Loser gives $500 to what ever trap organization of their choice. Mine is ATA hall of Fame. Plus give the winner $500 traveling money.

I know you have had your foot removed but what you don't realize is that you're not the only one who has lost part of their body.

The rules with absolutely no deviations:

Any club of your choice and a date that doesn't interfere with some important shoots I like to attend.

Your choice of how we stand, sit or lay down while we shoot.

My choice is that I have a glass eye so you have to take out your left eye to make it an even playing field.

    What say you!

The best thing about the upcoming grudge match with Leonidas and LS at the CC will be public surgeries. Who gets dibs on cutting off Leonidas' leg? Who get to dig out Gary's eye?

When I first started to read this I thought the great spartan leader had grown a pair.

Then I got to the part about the good Dr. Longshot having to remove his eye and realized that I was mistaken.

Sure was a long post just to say the obvious.

The great spartan leader could have just said,

I KNOW I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BEAT THE GOOD DOCTOR SO I'LL JUST MAKE SOME DUMBASS BET THAT I KNOW CAN NEVER HAPPEN.

Sounds like something one of the 4 stooges would come up with. Actually, it was so dumbass it must have taken all 4 to come up with it.

Dare I say to a moderator that you are mistaken.

One is my worst average (doubles) has Gary beaten easily in any of his averages.

Two is maybe he will just quit bringing up old posts because he knows he can get away with harassment and intimidation!

How about we leave the the great spartan cheerleaders leg alone and the Good Dr. Longshot just covers his eye with a patch? That way the good Dr. Longshot has two things going against him and the spartan cheerleader only has one.

NO, that won't work. The spartan cheerleader would not have enough of an advantage. He would still lose.

You can, and have, said anything you want one here. This isn't that old worn out site. It's up to you if you want to type dumbass posts like the one you did.Post away!

As far as the moderator stuff? Are you filing a formal complaint that the Good Dr. Longshot, winner of the last Grudge Match at the greatest place to shoot, the Cardinal Center, has been "intimidating" you?

If so, please let the site know which posts "intimidated" you so we can review them. If we find in your favor we will take action against the Good Dr. Longshot, winner of the last Grudge match against another loudmouth.

If we discover that he "intimidated" you too much we will dole out an appropriate penalty.

Probably have to poke out an eye.

What do you mean by NOBODY LIKED I find that insulting. There is a need for something to stimulate trapshooting, we sot some wide targets from the 30 yard line, and I used AA Super Hdcp shells and then on the shorter yardage I used Rem STS 3 dram shells, which we both were supposed to be using. Had I used the WW Super Hdcp shells there, it would have been a dramatic win. We both had a good following. Well liked too.

I don't think you will see him on here with us. This is one of his posts on the "ata is perfect" site.

"But let's call it like it is. There is more censorship at the other site then a North Korean News Conference. If you don't jump on the "I hate the ATA" bandwagon you are ridiculed by all seven of the forum posters and a ban is quick to follow. (Well maybe there might be eight or nine depending on how many aliases forum management is using that day.)"

And they thought all eight or nine of us would only be here for 30 days or less.
