Where will the Grand be this year? A lady in the trenches says she knows. I believe her. I report. You decide. Merlo out.
Roger : Sparta has been in a downslide since it's inauguration, Bad, Very Bad, Decision w/o Shooter Involvement and a Vote by the Membership. The Target Settings was the 2nd WORST DECISION ever, 1st was SPARTA. 3rd Building the Horse Barn Museum on Un -Owned Land in an Anti-Gun State. GB...…………………………..DLS
It is a wonder those 2 people in Sparta who were rioting didn't get in trouble with their parents ... Take more than two of them to get all of the stuff out of WalMart, then they won't have a grocery store ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Doc, I have been to every grand held in Sparta. I was at the first open shoot they held. In my opinion, the leaders of the ATA for the last 25 YRS. HAVE BEEN THE MOST INEPT GROUP TO EVER HAVE CONTROL OF AN ORGANIZATION OF THIS SIZE. The B.O.D. must carry a lot of the blame for the actions of the EC. They eliminated all guidance from the members/ They made dumb mistakes and then magnified them by trying to fix them when they were not capable of doing so. They had way to many under the table deals that enhanced them and hurt the association. They hid vital info from the membership, they lied to the members. In other words they have put the ATA on a down hill slide that in all probability it will never recover from. Sad, but true. We will never know the extent of self renumeration that went on, but it must have over whelmed the desire to keep the organization healthy.. That is my thought on the demise of our sport, what are your thoughts on the subject? Roger C.
The demise of our sport started when the older guys and gals died while the rest of us have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peal. The move to Sparta just accelerated the process.
Oleolliedawg, It started when men of honor let men of no honor take control of the organization. I have quoted this many times; EVIL WILL PREVAIL WHEN MEN OF HONOR DO NOTHING. That is the day it started. Roger C.
I can remember Brad D. saying to me at the Ohio State Shoot (long before the move to Sparta). You are at Vandalia Ohio, the largest and best trap shoot facility in the country and we have never had an Ohio President. That is all you need to know about the ATA and politics.
I have often wondered why a lady has not been elected to a higher up position (EC, ED, BOD) of the ATA, based on what I have seen over many years there has to be a Female as or more qualified than many of the Male counterparts ... This might be what they need to eliminate the "Good Ol' Boys" club for once and for all, maybe even from Ohio .... WPT ... (YAC) ...
The OSTA has had several lady presidents over the years, back when I was talking to Terry the ATA had never had an Ohio President but unfortunately years later along came Tom Acklin who was a New Yorker living in Ohio when he became president of the ATA and did my state no good. He too was one of the boys. In the old days ATA presidents were always or nearly always Masons. The political BS that is the ATA went on way before I started shooting trap. Remember where the PITA came from. With just 7 weeks till the Sparta grand is supposed to happen I don't know how it can be at another place, so either Sparta or NOT at all. The lady I think the ATA has now is the large one warming up her voice.
It’s either Linn Creek or Sparta, straight from the EC. They’ll know which one in just a few days, obviously Linn Creek is the back up.
Talking wire say if white father of ILLnews say no can pitch teepee on his reservation then all Indians who want pow-wow must go to land of Big Canoe. Land known as Missouria. Big chiefs like this idea. No like Ohio, too many braves off reservation in Ohio. Big chiefs afraid that if they go Ohio they not get free fire water and wampum.
Maybe the Grand could be held in the new country of CHAZ, CHOP, CHOD or whatever they are calling themselves this afternoon. They said they wanted guns, here ya go!
3 h 30 min (211.3 mi) via I-44 The 2 or 3 biggest cheerleaders that live next door to that outpost won't be making the 3-1/2 hour drive. Hell, the one guy only shoots 200-300 a year and they are at that place. So much for his "record" of making EVERY grand. And I'm a basher because I won't drive 10+ hours to the wsrc, in BFE. Yeah right!
In all seriousness, I hope they don't have to move it. Even with restrictions they shouldn't do any worse than the pathetic numbers they got last year?
This is not good for vendors. This is lose lose lose. There was only one good option and the ATA burned that bridge. Take ice to Linn Creek. It is a little warmer there.
Illinois Governor Pritzger signed a budget that is out of balance by 6 Billion dollars, somethings never change ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
World Shooting and Recreational Complex 6/15/20 7:00 PM WSRC will not be hosting the 2020 Grand American. Can't post the link but if you go to FB and enter "Illinois News" you can read about it. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced the 121st Grand American World Trapshooting Championships, traditionally held at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex (WSRC) in Sparta, will not take place at the venue due to public health concerns related to the new coronavirus (COVID-19). "The health and safety of participants who would attend, as well as spectators and staff, must remain top-of-mind," said IDNR Director Colleen Callahan. "Of course, we'll miss seeing participants and enjoying the camaraderie and sport from those who compete but, after considering recommendations and concerns from the Illinois Department of Public Health, know that safeguarding the health of attendees is the right decision in light of the ongoing global pandemic." The Grand American, the largest shooting event of its kind, spans several days and is home to more than 20 events, drawing shooters from across the globe. With more than 5,000 competitors and spectators expected to attend this year, overall attendance and international travel factored into the decision not to host this year's event. "Without a vaccine and proven treatment, we must continue to take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19," said IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike. "Large gatherings of people originating from different states and countries could undo the amazing work of Illinoisans to contain and control the spread of the virus. We support this difficult decision to protect the people of our state." Other concerns taken into consideration included the ability to screen individuals entering and leaving the complex, controlling the size of groups that are gathering in the campground, and the limited health care capacity in the immediate area." You gotta love the "With more than 5,000 competitors and spectators expected to attend this year" part. Maybe if they knew the real numbers they would have let the thing go on. I'm sure the Kool-Aid drinkers will say the same, SO WHAT, like they did when they lost all the SCTP kids.
I wonder how long it takes to drive 211.3 miles on a GREEN TRACTOR Since he can't drive that thing on the interstate he will have to use the back roads. Better leave tomorrow morning if he wants to keep that "record" intact.
Brad, Ohio did have a previous President. Chauncy Huber was president of the ATA in 1954. For some reason most Ohio folks don't realize that we had a president before Acklin, and I'm sure that he was more pro Ohio than our other president was. Acklin was one of the good old boys as I filed a complaint on behalf of my grand son and it didn't take long for his true colors to come forward. By the way I still have all of the correspondence from the complaint. Dave Berlet
Dave I forgot and I was at that 54 grand with my dad, I was 2 months old but I think I remember seeing you there but you weren't buying beer at the tent.
5,000 competitors ~~~~~ Last time that happened is when Tom Logue won the GAH. Down hill ever since, with a little mogul somewhere in the mix. Good God, they sure can inflate the numbers.
The State of Illinois prior to the move was told 100,000 shooters, vendors, and visitors the week of the Grand when it was the Grand in Vandalia ... If they doubled the daily entries, number of vendors, visitors and people driving past the place maybe but not at the Grand ... The EC wanted to paint a real pretty picture to entice the State of Illinois to build the place, think about how foolish they have looked ever since ... Build it and they will come proved to be as inaccurate as the numbers the ATA boasted about ... WPT ... (YAC) ... I have been to Lynn Creek a few times, got used to packing for the possibility of weather changes ... I do not know if that could be an issue this time of the year or not but better safe than sorry ... I fully intend on making it to Cardinal Center one day in the near future just to see if it as nice in person as it appears to be in advertisements ... I have a feeling it will be well worth the trip based on what several friends have said about the place ... Might even get to meet Old DLS face to face ... Trump 2020 and don't forget your mask ...
