I heard from a good source today that the Pennsylvania State Shoot will not be held in June. Possibly to be moved to a later date. Was wondering if anyone else has info on this. This is worrisome since the Ohio State Shoot is the week following the scheduled date of PSSA.
I try to watch all the Ohio Governor’s 2 PM daily briefings. I haven’t seen any indication that Ohioans will be permitted to gather in large groups as early as June. I certainly hope that we can, but I’m betting our Ohio State Shoot will be pushed back into July. At this point I’m hoping that the Cardinal will be able to host the SCTP Championships as scheduled on July 11 - 18. It’s just a guess on my part, but if I were on the OSTA BOD I would be looking at dates some time after the SCTP Championships. I would be surprised if the PA State Shoot is held on their currently scheduled dates. I’m guessing the PA State Shoot will move to at least the end of July into early August. Many State Shoots will probably be held on the same weekends this season as the various State Associations scramble to save something of a season for their shooters. There is only so many weekends in the summer before the trap help has to go back to school or college.
I'm avoiding all large gatherings as if it's the Plague. My family got hit hard with one death in the family and more recently, my wife's daughter and her husband both came down with it, fortunately both survived the ordeal. They both described it as if your lungs were on fire. With that said I don't give a rats ass about what any politician who full well knows that many more will die if he/she opens large gatherings up TOO soon. Maybe I'd be protesting the lock down differently, had my wife and I did not go thru such an ordeal. So even if somehow the Grand was held in my back yard...''I'm a no show'' Good Luck and have fun you guys.
Don I doubt that the SCTP shoot will happen this year too. Traveling around the country is not going to be on Grand Ma's and Grand Pa's to do list this summer. When Ohio is wondering if the buckeyes football will be able to play this fall I think the shooting season is history.
Brad, I believe you are 100% correct in your assessment of major shooting events for this year. I read posts on this forum from guys complaining that we are not standing up for their rights to shoot. Nothing could be further from the truth. I will fight for every shooters right to safely enjoy our beloved sport during this pandemic. But safely enjoying our sport this year doesn’t involve mass gatherings where a shooter has a greater risk of exposure to the virus. Help out our smaller clubs by safely shooting there as much as you can this year. I even read one post from a guy bragging about how Sweden has handled this pandemic. Checking the stats for Sweden shows a country of 10 million with about 23,000 cases of Covid-19 and death rate over 12%! Yep, keeping those bars and restaurants open in Sweden might have kept the money rolling but at a tremendous cost in lost lives. I have a friend that works at the Henry Ford hospital in Michigan. He got the virus and spent 5 days in his own hospital as a patient. He was on oxygen but wouldn’t allow them to put him on a respirator because 82% of the patients in his hospital that have been put on respirators DON’T SURVIVE! We all need to be smart with our choices and help protect our family members that are most at risk. My mother in law just turned 84 and God willing she will have many more birthdays if our family members all help to protect her from this virus. We will get past this pandemic just like we have all the others. Winning means coming out the other side alive!
With 5 weeks left, a decision will be made in the next few weeks. PA has a plan to re-open, but if Northumberland County won't be Green by then, we won't be able to hold it as scheduled. The backup plan is to hold it in place of the Summer Championships July 29 thru Aug 2, and just shoot the Championship week events. I'll post any Official decision, when it's made by the PA EC. Keeping fingers crossed!!!
Don I think you are right that we all need to be smart with OUR choices. On the other hand the Government shouldn't tell us what those choices have to be, I don't want some pin headed politician telling me what is right for me. If I want to open my business no body has to come, if I want to allow people to smoke cigars at my club and you don't like it don't come. I am tired of being told what to do and Mark my words there is going to be some real bad things happening soon if this economy doesn't get going. Look at those smart trap shooters that told us how good for trap shooting easy targets will be, or ribbons for everyone, or build it in Sparta and they will come, and that Vandalia is old news. Just think of those dumb ass trap shooters running the ata we know personally and what they did to registered trap shooting, do you want them making decisions on your health and business? I lived in the east for 8 years and those people in NY have a right to be scared. There's too many people living in too close quarters and was ripe for an epidemic and it's that way over the whole east coast. First it's this virus, then will be hunger, and then crime. Just wait till they run out of food. That's the reason I moved back home when my kids were little, get the hell as far away from there as I could. The virus is affecting the blacks and Hispanic worse than whites. Race does matter in biology, genetics are different. Here in Paulding Co we've had 8 cases and no new ones for a month, Van Wert County has had 3 cases both our counties are 99% white with small populations I can't see how killing the economy is going to save anyone. If you are afraid stay home but we need to open up the country before the cure is worse than the disease. But saying all that I think trap shooting for the year is done but I'll bet ya that as soon as Cloverdale has a shoot it will be a big one.
I have a good friend that lives in the Meadville area in pa. The sheriff stops by his automotive machine shop to make sure it's closed. I guy in the same area was fined $1400 for being open and a lady got a $200 ticket for hauling the Amish around. The car lots are closed down also. I can't believe the fine people of pa are letting this happen.
Brad, You and I are both small business owners, entrepreneurs. It’s not in our nature to accept others telling us how to run our lives or businesses. By that same token, I don’t tolerate others telling me what is or isn’t important to me or what I should be fighting for. Hell, I actually put new tires on my RV yesterday because I hope to be able to use it this year. But even if the Cardinal was open now I’m not sure if I would be there just yet. I’d hate to see Jack spend all the money it takes to put on a large shoot only to have a fraction of the normal crowd show up. I agree it should be Jack’s choice if he wants to be open but he is a better business man than me and I will respect his decision if he wants to remain closed for now.
I agree with Brad the ATA is asking for 2021 dues and wishing for a good 2021 season by email. 2020 written off.
I am in OH on a daily bike trip with my posse. No mask. We leave from the square downtown. They can come write the ticket.
FG, I can walk, or ride a bike if I like, anywhere I choose in PA without wearing a mask. There are no restrictions connected with anything like that. I live adjacent to the Allegheny County South Park. There are HUNDREDS of people walking or bike riding there everyday. Only a few are wearing masks. No problem. If you want to enter a store? Mask up. My question was what would someone do if they were a business owner in PA?
There aren’t any restrictions on wearing masks for outdoor activities here in Ohio either. Some retailers are requiring masks to enter their business but that is their choice, not a government mandate. Right now in my hometown Costco is the only business enforcing a “no mask, no enter” policy. That may change on Monday when the rest of our retail businesses open. BTW: I forgot to mention in my post above about my friend that spent 5 days in the hospital with a Covid-19, he was treated with hydroxychloroquine and is now back to work. That’s the drug that the liberal left wing nuts claimed President Trump was negligent for even talking about. He is living proof that at least in his case that drug worked!
OK I'm going to try and spell all the words correctly this time and stop stutter typing. Here goes. If I owned a business in PA I'd have already Moved To Ohio by now. There.
We all know that trapshooting is as much a social sport as it is a competition and according to the OH Gov. yesterday, he indicated that large gatherings is the last item on the list to be considered. With that said even if he were to decide to open things up by say mid June people have to remember that it will take a while for manufacturers to get back up to speed. My next door neighbor owns a mfg. company and he said that they will not be up to speed for 6-8 weeks because other companies are in the same boat it is a chain reaction effect. So you have to wonder how many of the vendors will be at the shoot that have anything to sell. Also what about the liability to Cardinal if there is a shoot held and one person gets sick/spreads this crap. I don't think that anyone wants to knowingly or unknowingly be responsible for that. Because if the #'s get worse the next time we shut down will be a lot worse in many respects.
I think your going to see a slow rise in the number of people shooting the smaller clubs, percentage wise, then those large shoot. Just less likely to get 'll if no other reason, Top Dogs, you may need to go back to your day jobs...just saying.
IF YOU COME TO THIS SHOOT YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Print this in bold type on front of the program. Roger C.
