Never seen a trap shooter smile, you'll have an adjustment period to the talking, laughing and joking, but you should enjoy it..........Joe
Been shooting Trap since 1970. And we do smile. Skeet ? Just finished loading 500 shells just for Skeet. Come on warm weather.
Been shooting Skeet since 1958. Got to AA with 410, won that ga at our State shoot several years ago. Love trap, shot a bunch of it, have life long friends I met on the Trap field. Got hooked on Sporting, a terrible malady! The 28 and 410 make it even more fun.
Got my start shooting skeet. I had one of the first skeet 1187's. It had hi grade wood. Wish I had it back!
Like all shooting. Trap shooting with 12ga is too much for me unless with semiauto. Same with any shotgun shooting. That's one reason skeet has been so attractive. 20 ga. does really well in 12 events.
I shoot all four gauges frequently, for the 12 gauge, I've been loading 3/4 oz loads for about a year now, they don't kick any harder than the 20 ga. and still breaks the birds.............Joe
We used to shoot complete rounds of Skeet from the "hip" when I was young. I could usually break in the 20's. All it takes is practice.
I tend to shoot more trap because the clubs I belong to have more trap leagues. Only skeet league is a mixed league where both skeet and trap is shot then a skeet league in the middle of winter. I do love to shoot skeet though and try to get to the skeet fields a couple times a week. If I plan to shoot trap too I'll use my Citori XT for skeet, it works as good for skeet as it does for trap (at least for me it does).
Beware the man with one gun, or who has guns with the same POI. My 2 O/U's, Beretta 391 loaner, and 391 Extrema Field gun all have the same POI.
I like to shoot skeet in high wind....for me it's all about the fun and making the occasional spectacular shot. I once saw a target come out of the low house and go through the high house window and out the back door...how it got past the trap in the high house unscathed had to be a miracle.
Smokingtom it's been almost 1 year since you opened this thread... well how about an update. Did you shoot any skeet ,did you like it , and most of all did you enjoy getting away from those trap guys for a while..... oh wait ,your are one of those trap guys aren't you .
Standard joke around the Trap Club: "Teaching a Skeet shooter to shoot trap is like teaching your wife to drive!"
If you prefer to shoot purely for fun, try Skeet and/or Sporting with a small bore (20 or 28 ga. preferred) modern, quality SXS hammer gun!
Skeet is much more fun compared to trap IMO. Once you get the stations down on where to make your holds, breaks, and how much lead, it's not too hard.
skeet was meant to be a social game while its played. sorta like golfers yaking it up in the cart waiting to tee off. once the guy starts his swing, everyone goes silent, the swing is made....then everyone starts back taking about the girl in the bikini they just saw posting scores at the scoreboard.
