Looking at a KS5 at my local club, I shot it great. Anything to watch out for on these? What’s the general consist on them, good, bad? thx
I have a KS5 that I've had for years. Never had a problem with it. I have a number 3 barrel hanger on it and have shot some really good scores with it. There good guns. Just out of curiosity what is the person asking for it. Don't over pay for it. I might add that mine is a 32 inch with choke tubes.
The guns are as bullet proof as a trap gun can be. I've owned a ks-5 special since 1991 and can't even tell you how many rounds down the pipe. Over 100,000 with out so much as a hiccup. I've had krieghoff service it 3 times and the last service they replaced the locking block. Best gun for the dollar I've ever owned.
There was a KS-5 and a KS-5 Special. Also, early models were the logo receiver, then later were scroll engraved similar to the K-80 models. In general they are very good guns and of really basic design. Not much to go wrong with basically four moving parts on the trigger pull. You may have noticed the top lever is of pretty strong resistance when opening. That is because it is cocking the hammer back with the opening action of the top lever. You get used to it, and will not notice after a while. Again more simplicity with less parts to go wrong. Price points vary depending on models and options. Find out exactly what the model is, and post for a relative price value. I have owned mine since 2000. Had it rebuilt once, and it is still going strong.
Add a little weight. They are a bit light. I have had several. They can kick a little. Great guns!!! One small part added and you have a good release. Special or not....same value in my opinion. The fixed chokes are great! Real smokers.
I had mine for 2 years and lots of rounds... a nice shooting gun, I just needed a bit of a taller rib and a left hand stock. The factory stock was neutral. Unfortunately, I had to sell it to buy a replacement. I did send it back to Kriegoff for a engineering upgrade to the rib adjustment locking screw... the original design sucked and constantly came loose unless you glued it in place - which is fine if you don't care to make adjustments. Also, I wanted more than a fixed choke, so off to Briley it went. If the gun fits you and you shoot it well, buy it...
