I would like to hear from people that have had experience with the Western Retro machines. Good, bad, tell me what you know. Thanks, Nick
I have no first hand knowledge of the units. The machine it is made for threw the best targets ever seen. It might help to call Canada and talk to the builders. I have talked to the gentleman there and he is very knowlegable about mechanics, and target flights. Roger C.
I have both a 270 turret and doubles add-on. I like the turret just fine, it needs to be kept sort of clean to function well. The doubles is a bit more work to keep timed, I have spent time tuning on it but have not tried targets yet. Over all I'd say I like them. I have the 270 turret on a 1524 wobble trap purchased from QRP (Roger C but mostly Barbara) in 1990!
We tried a few at the Old Phx club before it got forced out by Urban renewal, did not have very good luck with them but things may of changed over the years to make them more reliable ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Roger, You got it! Mike from Double Adobe (past life!) I have quite a few old Western White Flyer machines that we use for cow pasture trap. I think that the Western Retro add-on is a great way to get more life out of some fine old machines. I really like my doubles trap when it is going good, the 1524 was THE doubles machine. When the PX gun club installed Pats I remember everyone wanted to shoot over the hand sets!
Hi Mike, The only machine on the market today that comes close to throwing the quality of target of the old 1524 is the Super Star, and Peter the owner of Super Star traps will not ship machines into the USA. Can you post a picture of the add on doubles machine. I would like to see one. Roger C.
Here are a couple of pictures in the shed, I didn't set it up for shooting. Cable pulls on a sliding release onto the arm. Also, here is my wobble trap and Cline motor attached to a 1517 (pull pipe machine) This is on an 1936 Ford truck axle trailer that was the ranch welding rig!
Mike, The superior traps were very good machines. I sold the startup business to Vitron,We were the manufacture of the Remington traps that were rolled over into the Superior traps. Vitron then improved on the machines to where they were the best sporting machines on the market. I see some QRP parts on your 1524 machines. Roger
Wasnt Ian Brotherson involved with Western-Retro? The name popped into my head while reading this thread.
Ian is the first name, i'm not sure of the last name. As far as I know he is still the Mfgr. of the equipment. Roger C.
