Interesting note on the 200 Singles Championship event at Missouri Fall Shoot: 317 entries--only 110 that were not Special Category! Bruce Bowen Sturgis South Dakota
Bruce, All of these special catagories are a joke, Inserted to make many people chase the AA points. Just another of the EC's dumb moves to get people to shoot more targets. Go to any of the AA point shoots and you will see the same people at all of them They are dedicated registered shooters, but they have not figured out that the EC is using them. They should be trying to get the members they lost by their move to Sparta. They have lost the blue color shooters and I doubt if they have the ability to get them back. There are now about 225 people on the all American teams. Roger C.
Bruce, remember when they used to have around 1000 entries. A fantastic direction in old Missouri also, Lynn's old home.
At Sparta this year, Event #24 had 1105 Special Category entries. The total number of entries was 1987, leaving only 882 participants who didn't qualify for Special Categories. Nearly 56% of the field was made up of Special Category entries. You can run, but you can't hide. Like Grammy used to say, "Everybody is talking about the weather, but nobody is doing anything about it." Something's wrong, but nobody wants to fix it.
I will bet the senior vet class was the highest in all of those shoots. In a few more years they will all be gone and so will the registered shooting if the ATA doesn't get some competant leadership SOON. Roger C.
The 18 yd. line was eliminated. What they really need is a 30 yd. line. They are to narrow minded to see what needs to be done. Shooters want competitive targets not the fluff shit they are being handed. Roger C.
I would like to see the ATA go to a straight classification/class, like AAA, AA, A, B, C, D , E, F. So everyone shoot your class because your average is your average. If you have a 96 singles average and that is A class then you shoot against everyone in that class. We participate in a sport were it doesn't matter if you are a male or female, old or young, fast or slow, short or tall, fat or skinny, strong or weak. Everyone shoots to be the champion, but if you are not the champ then you are shooting against people in your class/average (same ability!) I know people with sand bag, but they do that now so good luck fixing that. I'm not sure how you can miss on purpose! Same amount of trophies to shoot for, but much easier to figure out and less confusion
So what your saying the categories should be eliminated and we all shoot as 1 in the Hdcp events. I believe that 60-70 percent of todays shooters that shoot our Fall Hdcp in Mo. are 55 to 95. The money shooters and the point chasers dont attend as you can see in the payoffs. Use to be $1500.00 payoffs for a 50. No more. The derby was won by a Kentucky shooter years ago,$5000.00, No More. Sorry to say but the Past is gone. Time to move on. Im a chaser but cant compete like most of them. Maybe in Ohio and Kentucky there are Big Money pots to win, but the day of having 1000 shooters at the Mo Fall Hdcp are Gone. Again my opinion. Thanks!
Chad, Are you saying that handicap should also use the same system? How could you make that work to try and equalize the playing field? Roger C.
The point chasers don't attend the Fall Handicap because there are very few points there (regardless of the attendance). Yes it is a points shoot BUT the way it is setup (not a state shoot or a satellite grand) it only pays points out on the 3 championship events (singles, handicap and doubles) and the high all around and high overall. Other shoots give out points on each event of the last 1200 or 1300 targets but not at this shoot even though it has more shooters than some of the satellite grands and state shoots..
This shoot is WAY,WAY Down from what it used to be., I am glad I did not get to go. Not an Ohio shooter was there when I looked at the entries, correct me If I am wrong. GB....................................DLS
no I wouldn't mess with the handicap system, it seem to work as is. leave the yardage groups as they currently are. but in singles and doubles I would go to just a classification system on your average NO categorizes
