Since we all don't shoot just registered targets, where will you TRAP shooters be heading Saturday or Sunday?
Heck, it doesn't even have to be Trap. Anybody heading for a Sporting Clays course or the skeet field?

After the last two months here in SW PA. going anywhere would be great.

Headed to Conneaut (Ohio) to shoot the County League Saturday morning. Conneaut is a little one trap club nested within the confines of a campground. Very interesting location, but it has a great background and they throw very nice targets.

Ham shoots for Easter should be on the radar. Post your clubs and date info.

Planning on meeting up with a good friend at Kingin Gun Club at Indianapolis, In. and just shoot some practice. 85 mile trip one way for me but the fun will make it all worthwhile.

Just got back from the County League. After an adjustment to the new Stock Lock yesterday, to lower the POI 6", I'm happy to say that I ran my 50 targets this morning. Third time I've shot it and I think we're close to being dialed in.

Toby threw perfect targets once again today.

Valley View, Labor Day weekends. The Warren Klinger Memorial double barrel Championship and the PA State Single Barrel Championship on Sunday of that weekend. The warm up for Hegins on Monday. Got to shoot with and against some of the best flyer shooters from PA and states nearby.
One of the nicest places to shoot and one of the friendliest clubs I have been to.
Like everything else, things change and we no longer shoot pigeons there. Just the clubs name brings back fond memories. When you get there ask about some of the characters that used to attend those shoots.

Will do. Talked to some old timers a couple of years ago. Said they shot birds on state grounds at Hegins and not at the club. I never shot live birds but wish I could have watch that. I will ask about some of the shooters. They did say they came in from all over the country for that shoot. Ed

    Ed,
We shot there Saturdays and Sundays, then, when Hegins shut down we shot all three days at Valley View. I earned my 25 straight pin there on a Sunday in 2000. I made a few more shoots there in the following years then they had to stop also. Problems with that church next to the club property from what one of the long time members told me.
As far as some of the members shooting Hegins but not the other two days, that was because a lot of local guys could only shoot one day and Hegins was the Grand Daddy. It was only 20 birds instead of the 25 each day at VV and that cost you less. An all day picnic with great food, music, and the people sitting in the bleachers watching you shoot. What a time that was. Missed 2 in the last ring for an 18 one year. That was twenty years ago and I can still remember which two. Boxes 2 and 8, good birds that just beat me. Still wouldn't trade those pigeon shoots for all the ATA targets in the world.

Thats some nice shooting. I was told they also had pigeon shoots at South End gun club in Reading and Pikeville gun club. Did you ever make it over here? Another club was also Straustown. I do not know if there are any shoots here in the south east anymore. If so, they keep it quiet. Ed

Pikeville was the PA State Double Barrel Championship. Straustown the the first place I shot out east. The "big man" knew how to run a shoot. The straight purse always drew a large number of shooters.
Those two places also had the added entertainment of the protesters. You could always tell when someone really made a good shot from all the screaming and yelling from the road.
If you go on Google earth you can still see the outline of the rings at Straustown.

Wright Patterson Air Force Base in beautiful Dayton, Ohio. In the third round, I shot my first 25 with my new gun. It was my first time shooting after surgery on Feb. 17th. Love to shoot at the Wright Pat Rod and Gun Club with all my friends. The place was packed. Also in attendance was an Ohio State Board Member, two Hall Of Famers, and a past Ohio State Trapshooting President. A great day shooting and learning.

Flyersarebest, Where in SW PA do you shoot trap? I like to fine new clubs to shoot. I have not shot west of rt 81. I feel a road trip this year to a new club. Maybe I could come out your way to shoot. Does not have to be ATA. I also like to fine the good places to eat. Ed

    Ed,
I would recommend Ruffsdale Gun Club. 8 traps, really great background. I haven't shot there in a while but it is one of the bigger clubs(more traps) than a lot of smaller ones around. You can google the address.

Probably best bet would be PA turnpike to the New Stanton exit to Rt. 70 west. When you get off the exit for Ruffsdale it's not that far on a nice two lane road. Out in the country so I'm not sure about any restaurants.

You could do a little searching to find their schedule for the year. Unfortunately a LOT of the clubs in our area, and there are quite a few, have quit offering registered shoots. They just don't get the numbers they used to.

Now, if you wanted to shoot on a GREAT Sporting Clays course we have two.
Nemacolin/Shooting Academy and Seven Springs are two of the nicest places you would ever see. Top shelf all the way. I know when they opened the Shooting Academy was rated one of the top 5 courses in the country.

Nemacolin has their resort/casino right down the road and Seven Springs is a ski resort so you probably could get a good meal.
