To pay the State Police cars Gasoline, they could not afford gasoline for them in the past and that is a true statement, it was in their newspapers
The Cardinal Center really does not need this kind of Verbage, Sparta could not handle the crowd, they would need more trapfields
This is a tough one. All kinds of ideas came to mind right away but then one fact kept me from posting any of them. The shoot would still be in sparta. Flyersarebest
The Sparta vendors were promised 3 big shoots per year....and it is an ATA shoot. No one is counting the U.S open.
Can you decipher it as a JEST Sparta ATA shoots are down, and still dropping Location, Location, Location
That is like having a tux, $300, and no date for the prom. Another reason to send the Buckeye Classic to its death in Sparta.
The ATA and the IDNR put the U. S. Open against the Buckeye Classic last year. The Open was nearly a no show. The vendors didn't even go! The vendors at the shoot in Illinois need the Buckeye Classic. It should have to be at Sparta! jmho
The biggest reason would be to get the EPA off the Cardinal Center's back .... When you drive into the facility .... you can look up the trap-line .... and it looks like Daytona Beach has been moved to the 18 yard-line there. There is a strip of sand on the 18 as far as you can see. As the shooters move from post to post sand must fall off creating this band. When a strong wind blows after the Buckeye Classic it looks like the dust-bowl out west in the past. The EPA is going to make them clean it up so traffic on 71 is not in danger of a pile-up from lost visibility in the wind. Sparta has already contracted clean-up crews for their 18 yard-line after the GAH, so they are better equipped to keep the EPA happy.
What user-1 said..........exactly Another reason. The state of Illinois is smart enough to collect an EPA tax on that dust.
User1 the dog running for safety to the other site, he comes here Barfs and runs back across the line before he gets tarred and feathered. The Sand was really Deep on the GAH Handicap, better look for all that sand back in Sparta the Mecca of easy 2 hole targets. Dr.longshot
Silly, silly Dan! The CC has its own Grand. It is called the Cardinal Classic. As the shoot in Sparta gets smaller the Cardinal Classic continues to grow. The Cardinal Classic may be bigger this year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree with some of what User 1 said. I think you fellows misunderstood him.
The Cardinal Center does have a huge parking lot. When it was first built it did not have any asphalt. The first year was rainy. No issues with the dust. The following years the CC has gradually increased the amount of asphalt every year. It is a huge place. Fortunately there is less an issue there each year.
The 18 yard issues which User-1 mentioned do rest on the shoulders of the ATA and it was obviously a problem at Sparta. The EC is deaf and dumb I think. For another thread.
That darn Dysinger, last year's tourn director, kept the targets at 50 yards for both the Buckeye and the Cardinal Classics. That kept the Big Dogs from being in a pile in the shoot offs. Move the Buckeye to Sparta and all can feel like a winner.
When you look at the 10 reasons to move the Buckeye Classic, then you look at Family Guys pictures, you just say no way it stays here where the center of the Trapshooters of America Live. Competetion thrives here in the Buckeye State Home of the Cotton Bowl Champions and facing the Competetion of the best 2 College Football Teams in the USA for the National Championship, GO BUCKS Dr.longshot Good Duck Hunting
Wel Went up and got my gun back from Rod Stumbo yesterday - stopped at the Farmstead on the way back and wistfully looked out on the frozen, snow covered trap line wishing for weather like the pictures.
Looking at those pictures, whats not to like ..? Sparta serves a purpose but the location and the way it all happened does not sit well with many people so the odds of the Grand ever being what it once was by the numbers (attendance) is very unlikely ... Sparta is actually a neat little town just not the place I would of put what was once the biggest trap shoot in the United States ... Matt is a good guy, but if the shoot would be anyplace but Sparta he probably never would of shot the Grand ... Whats done is done, now the ATA has to live or die with it ... wpt ... (yac) ...
I recently learned from CC Management they will be working on the Background behind Traps 5-6-7 plus they are supposed to tell RJ Stuart, they are drawing for starting traps at Buckeye Classic, and all future shoots because of the decline of 23% caused by RJ Stuart on the singles at Ohio State Shoot, by holding up squadding until 5-6-7 banks were filled. Jeeeeeeezzzzzz Doc, the guy wasn't serious about moving the shoot. Just a thread to have fun with. Now , on a serious note. The ONLY reason someone would want the shoot moved from the CC in Ohio to sparta would be if they they wanted the shoot to FAIL. Flyersarebest
Well, I just paid for a week of camping for this years CC. Really need to shoot banks 5,6 and 7 and find out about all the negative talk about how hard it is to break the target.
