Clue...the answer may have the word "decade" in it. And it may or may not be good news. The clock ticks faster. I report. You decide. Merlo out
I thought the deal with the SCTP in place now was for 3 years? If they added 10 more would that be considered an extension? Just askin
David, I remember a Judge giving Brad a DECADE to pay a fine he incurred defending his business. You don't suppose.....nah, that can't be it!
Too bad Mr. Fishburn can't put up a small casino on the property. Shooting, Gambling, and Drinking, what a new novel idea. Wait a second, that was what it was like in the Golden Days of Trapshooting. And at most pigeon shoots.
Two decades? Sounds like revisionist history to me but if you say so. Considering we were probably both drunk when you told me the story I'd say I did good just remembering it happened! I just wanna know what Merlo's mega big news is. EC member, really? Come on man!!!!
The ATA bought or Buying the Cardinal Center, and closing Sparta. GB.................................DLS
Doc, you must have heard that from the same guy that told you all the screens were up on all the traps.
dang lord maker. if that is the big news Merlo kind of screwed the pooch and let you beat him to announcing it.
OK, you got me. I went to the OSTA site and didn't find anything about 10 years of anything. I wonder how many people rushed over there like I did. Good one!
Flyer is right. It may or may not be good news but the word decade will be in the story. I now have news that the story will be dwarfed by the following story. The fellows in the trenches have this right. There will be tears. Big ones. I report. You decide Merlo out.
So now we have TWO stories to speculate about. I'm hoping one starts with, The SCTP is proud to announce that our tournament will be staying at ………... And the other starts with, The ata wants to thank the ED for all his service but has decided to...…...
I saw the same pic when I googled, OSTA signs ten year deal. There wasn't an article about it and there wasn't a date with the picture. Any idea when the pic was taken? I searched the OSTA site and under "announcements" it is blank. I would assume that if this was common knowledge and that pic is recent enough, Merlo wouldn't have bothered teasing us. I'm still leaning toward the SCTP but like I said earlier, just a WAG.
"It may or may not be good news but the word decade will be in the story." Most pregnancies last 9 months, give or take a few weeks. Hey, what about that pic you posted? Got a date on that yet?
I'll bet you $50.00 on anything you like. As long as I can use the N1H1 (Swine Flu) payment plan if I lose.
That picture is at least three - four years old. It was taken during the Ohio State shoot when Jeff Schlichter (left front in vest) was the OSTA president, and that was two presidents ago. That was when they signed a new 10 year lease with Jack though.
Grudge Match 2019 ????? Maybe the 2019 ATA President would want to challenge a "non-shooter" like Mr. Dysinger ..... Or ..... Dr. Longshot vs ol'N1H1 at the pattern board ..... Who knows ..... the master moderator from never-never land may travel away from home, for once, to see the real world of Trapshooting and participate in a Grudge Match .....
"Who knows ..... the master moderator from never-never land may travel away from home, for once, to see the real world of Trapshooting and participate in a Grudge Match." I know it's only the end of May but THAT is the funniest thing I've read on here so far this year.
Doc, has been messing with one gun, then another, then another, then a car, seems like the boy has his hands full ... But a Grudge match would be cool, cash only and up front ... ( I will back and cover Doc ) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
It's been 10, but only days since the Blackbird first put it up. Like the dawg said, patience grasshopper.
Patience should be rewarded, not tested. I think days mean less than a week. I can't help it if I'm excited to here about any good news about the Cardinal Center. It is by far the best place I have ever shot at !! Ok, lets stop dragging around, anticipation is killing me. It's been weeks now, not days !!!
I worked with a guy years ago that had no patience whatsoever. He would stand in front of the micro wave in the break room and yell, HURRY UP!
Merlo - how about another tidbit? Does this have anything to do with trapshooting, or is this related to Sporting, Pistol, or the plans for the new clubhouse? https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2018/10/23/cardinal-shooting-center-expanding/
Shotshell. ... a little. At first this was supposed to be one of those here are the papers deal. Sign here. Then these guys started saying. “Hmmm while we are at it”. Now this appears to be going from mega to blockbuster. My sources reputations are on the line. The band will be playing soon and a fat lady has been called in. (clue) When is free is too much? I report. You decide. Merlo out
Thanks Ret9414, but I prefer to be called a Jacka** as opposed to an a**hole (even if I am one from time to time).
What in the heck does the cryptic message "When is free is too much? mean? The only guess I have on that statement is maybe there is one to many is's in the sentence? When free is too much? When is free too much? I will patiently wait for the answer to this one also.
Canton Jim, I don't know about the free targets but I do have some info from the Cardinal Center. I went down there today and was talking to the big wigs (see picture) and was lucky enough to be around when the SCTP, (maybe the NSSF is over the SCTP I'm not sure) but in any case the SCTP will be at the Cardinal Center for the next ten years. MAKE THAT ELEVEN IT IS A TEN YEAR EXTENSION. The pictures are taken in the new restaurant that was the Farmstead, now it is a sports bar. I ate a sandwich that was good and had a shot with the boys celebrating the deal. It's a real good deal for the CC and the SCTP but best of all a super deal for the kids that shoot trap, skeet, sporting, rifle and pistol. I also heard something about international shooting. A few years back I tried to talk Jack and Luke into putting in some more pits so the CC could hold the world championships. I don't know but i hope that's a go to. Luke told me that he and the NSSF would be releasing the details so we will see just how much Merlo NEW, KNOWS when that happens. But the ten year deal is done. Brad.
A brand new member, "sparta Sid", posted the following, his first post, on the other thread about this news. I'm just helping him out by putting his post under this thread. I'm sure if he had seen the above post he would have put his here himself. "The above has not been confirmed. More like a wild ass wish. Sparta could do well without SCTP. AIM is doing fine. If it were in black and white with blue ink at the bottom it wouldn’t be much of a story. No paper. Not even a story." Just trying to help Sid out, new "member" and all.
I'll copy the thread and repost it here if it was tough to find "The Cardinal Center will now be the home grounds of the National Shooting Sports Foundation for the next 10 years. There will be further capital improvements at the Cardinal Center. This includes the SCTP and more. Details following. " The 3 year deal with SCTP was up this year. Now they will not be going back to sparta for a while.
A month ago Merlo started this thread and Today I just got a text from Luke making the official announcement of a ten year deal with the SCTP and SASP making the Cardinal Center the home grounds. Merlo congratulations once again you scooped the trap shooting world with meaningful info way ahead of everyone else. I want to say a little bit about Merlo's record posting info, not just about this great news for the kids that shoot trap (and skeet, sporting, rifle and handgun that this historic deal gives them.) It will be easier for the teams, the parents and grand parents and the industry reps now that a true stable place is set for the long term for them to plan for the future and Merlo's reporting of this but also over the past few years how Merlo has been way ahead in reporting ATA news, Sparta news, and Trap Shooting news in general and also through in some Illinois politics . I wonder what the other so called shooting publications are doing, it seems they are just propaganda sites and magazines. Also I'd like to give a shout out to Family guy for all the pictures he posts. The kids and dogs are my favorites, but just thanks for putting in all that work for free. I'm sure that those that you take their picture say thanks but I'll say thanks too. I can only imagine how many trap shooting pictures he has posted on here over the years, and all free for anyone to look at. I also want to say a word about the posters on here. This web site has some very knowledgeable people that I know care about trap shooting and the ATA and the way it appears to them (me) and that registered trap shooting has gone to hell in the last 15 years from what we knew it to be. To all of you I say keep the hammer pounding because we never know who is reading this site, and we know no one reads other places for real news or opinions. President Trump fights fake news all the time so I think we can fight NO NEWS from other places with this site. Merlo I'm watching for the next big bit of news, because if shooters want to know what is happening and want to know it first I think YOU'RE the MAN. Brad
Personally, I think its well deserved for all parties involved in the extension but I think in reality we all know there is no way the Cardinal Center will have 15,000 shooters in the camp grounds (That's 15 people per camp spot, which were not all sold ) and another 15,000 in the general area of the facility like the WSRC did that one year, (less than 2,000 shot the main event ) which was advertised on the local news stations ( WBUBBA News on your dial )… Its is truly a shame that such a Magnificent facility as the Cardinal Center cannot gather the same amount of people at least on one occasion to prove to the rest of the trapshooting world they are in it to the end … I never hear anyone boast about the Cardinal Center being headed in a "Fantastic Direction" or any other far fetched claims which is truly sad (wink, wink) especially now that they have shot curtains and a Hall of Fame while the folks in Illinois are not even entertaining the thought of any such thing except how to pay for the debt on the State of Illinois barn dubbed the ATA, HOF … I have said it before and I will say it again, "sometimes your better off talking to the Toaster" … WPT … (YAC) … PS : Merlo, you the man …
It is truly great news. With my youngest son just starting into SCTP shooting on the Cardinal Center youth team and my oldest helping coach, there will be a lot of years that I know we can count on our home grounds being the place to shoot.
Because of the abundance of nearby infrastructure that was promised (imagined) if the ATA would simply sign on the bottom line for Sparta. Meanwhile, nothing beats cooking hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill behind the motor homes parked miles from anywhere in the middle of a cornfield. Over 10 years and the best local hangout seems to be a Walmart. Quite frankly, I'll pass.
It's clear that from his name that Sid is only ever going to be partial to Sparta. Having been to the "almighty" WSRC on a few occasions, while it is a neat place to experience, the area around it is just to sparse. Closest hotels worth staying at are nearly 30 minutes away, and the campgrounds, while large, are so far from the shooting fields that visiting the vendors needs to be done directly before or after shooting because it just isn't worth the time it takes to go over there otherwise. The kids are far better off at the Cardinal Center. The SCTP wouldn't have chosen there otherwise.
I don't know if it is fact or fiction but rumor has it that Sparta Sid is at least part owner of the infamous Sparta Motel, as Merlo says I report you decide.
I hope there is room for expansion at the cardinal center for the grand to come back to Ohio someday. I cant help but believe that Illinois will screw it up sooner or later. That is such a corrupt bassackward State. I believe there last 4 governors have been convicted of one crime or another and are doing time. Its only a matter of time before shooters will not be welcome there.
Everything that is in Sparta needs to stay in Sparta. Get the Martins to donate more. Whatever it takes. Jmho
CONGRATS to the leaders of the NSSF and the SCTP for having the common sense to stay with the Cardinal Center.
Nonsense....the management system at Sparta would be an asset to the CC. Imagine if the CC had the WSRC management’s experience.
That's a lot different than the SCTP kids would be better off in Sparta. And what exactly is the management at the Cardinal doing so badly? Luke has done a tremendous job of running things, new vendor buildings being added, several skeet fields, sporting clays, rifle and pistol banks. If Mr. Wondrash didn't feel the Cardinal Center could handle the Nationals for the next 10 years why would he extend the contract? The Ohio State shoot regularly ranks either first or second in the country yearly in shooter draw with Pennsylvania. How is that bad management? Nothing anybody here says is going to change your mind, but the facts are the facts. The SCTP is better off here.
I got a feeling Sid drives a green pickup which would explain a lot of things and he can give lesson from the 20 yard line ... Some people are just the type you put on ignore almost automatically, Sid would be one of them ... The majority of people from Sparta are locked in a time warp and do not get sharp knives when they order steak, Sid would be one of those also ... Obviously never been to the grand when it was grand, now just another little shoot in a shit hole ... No offense to the other shit holes ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
What about the kids Sid, how could Sparta serve the kids better? I've never been to the Cardinal Center but I've been to Sparta and that overgrown weed patch is a disgrace. Hell a kid under 4 feet tall could get lost in the uncut grass or lost in any number of potholes on the property. WPT has it right, shit hole.
Was the Cardinal Center throwing registered targets before the WSRC? If so, wouldn't that give the CC MORE experience? The CC has how many Trap events a year? And that place in IL. has how many? "the management system at Sparta would be an asset to the CC. Imagine if the CC had the WSRC management’s experience." You were laughing your "wild ass " off when you typed that weren't you? When that place in IL. opened, what twelve years ago, you could say things like that because no one knew what the results were going to be. People that thought you were full of it didn't have any numbers to dispute your statement. Now they have the numbers, PATHETIC as they are, and when someone boasts that the place in IL. is great, well then they get to laugh their "wild asses" off. I have to copy that last one again just to make sure I read it correctly. "the management system at Sparta would be an asset to the CC. Imagine if the CC had the WSRC management’s experience". Thanks for the laugh sid.
From one of sid's "wingmaster" pals when it was first announced that the SCTP was going to move to the Cardinal Center for a three year deal. "I was one that did not want to go back to Ohio. Was really hoping the SCTP would try to get back to Sparta and the WSRC. Sure hate it that all those a$$holes on the dark site will be happy that the WSRC lost out!" Hey sid? I thought you said sparta will do just fine without the SCTP. Your pal seems to think that the WSRC lost out. Make sure you tell him that he gets to hate it for a LOT LONGER now!
Ok, just for more laughs lets imagine if the CC had the same management as that place in Illnews. Todays Headline The Cardinal Center, the Premier Clay Target Shooting Facility located near Marengo Ohio was forced to close it's doors today. sid's post should be a sticky. That way, anytime someone needs a laugh they can click on it.
If Sid thinks that the management at Sparta are the utopia then he hasn't been involved in any gun club management. If the Sparta management were to come to the CC what would be the outcome? You can only screw up a single car funeral one way same as the management at Sparta
I've shot both, and plan to this year. That being said Sparta is a good shoot and well run and I have shot well there. In my opinion there is no better run shoot anywhere that I have shot as the Cardinal. If other places want to learn how to do things come on up this week and see how it needs to be done. No one is perfect but the management at the Cardinal are the best I have seen from the first shot all the way to the shootoffs. I am not from Ohio or have anything against Sarta but thats the way I see things.
