A friend of mine is gun shopping. Wondering which vendors will be at San Antonio other than Shotgun Cache?
Gary Bulley "THE UNLOADER" will have vendors tables, with some Trap Guns------BOWEN---LJUTICS--- (OTHERS) as well as some barrel gauges etc.
The participation at the SW Grand has declined significantly. Many of the vendors no longer come. The ammunition companies no longer appear. Briley and Americase, Texas based companies no longer attend. Fairchilds Fine Guns has ceased to attend. Shooter participation is down to about Texas State Shoot levels.
The last decent shoot was the last time they had the dinner in the BERETTA pavilion. It's all been downhill from then on. ---(Just my opinion)
Vendors will not attend where the expenses are to high to make a profit. If you attend all of the satalite grands, you will see about 70% of the same people at every one of them. Nothing against the people they are mostly very nice, but the blue collar shooters are not attending them. The costs are out of line with what the average person can afford. THUS, the X registered shooters are doing more meat, and fun shoots. It fits their budge better. The AA point mean nothing to them. The cost for 100 registered targets is about $70.00 with fees and ammo. A meat shooter will spend about $30. to $35. for an evening of shooting and maybe winning an equal amount of food in the process. Roger C.
On another note; Many of the satalite grands have run their course. Sooner or later the clubs will realize they are not making any money on the shoots. The cost are very high to the clubs. Economics will start to kick in sooner or later. The AA points should only be awarded at state and zone shoots based on the total zone and not the individual shoots in the zone. This would be a big help to the local clubs that are still shooting registered targets. It would help raising their attendance. And maybe add more ATA members to our ranks. Roger C.
Trust me, it's becoming increasingly difficult to make a profit being a vendor at most shoots. The volume is simply not there. When you see turnouts dwindle around 35% in 10 years you realize the good days are gone. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
The CC still has a good amount of vendors, but they are lacking in the food catigory. They had a guy selling walleye sand witches, and they were delicious, but I think he was politicked out. If you are prone to burgers and hot dogs you are ok, but real food is hard to come by. I wont say anything bad about the donuts, as I offered to treat Dave, at this years state shoot. Roger C.
Oleolliedawg, On the visor of my 1955 ford victoria. I had a sign, Live fast, Love hard, Die young, make a good looking corpse. Never dreamed about ever being almost 83. I would not ever change any thing. Roger C.
First of all, Dave doesn't need any donuts. Secondly, I never rested much on the back seat of my '69 Plymouth Roadrunner either
I think some background information might be useful for those not familiar with the National Shooting Complex. The facility is the home of the NSSA and NSCA. It has been there since before the creation of the NSCA. They have permanent vendor buildings which house the ammo companies and other permanent vendors. Other permanent “vendors” include the major target gun manufacturers. They do not sell there but may or may not take orders. Factory service personnel provide their services at the big other than trap events. Some have demo guns available to try. The facility also has two areas for what they refer to as portable vendors. My information is the rent for the permanent vendors remains constant whether they appear at a trap event or not. The portable vendor area terms are most likely have a different kind of rent structure. When the Midwest Grand in Oklahoma became the SW Grand in San Antonio; the vendors came and occupied their permanent buildings. Both areas for mobile vendors had occupants. This is no longer true. The shoot will be lucky to have a pad installer or gun plumber this year. It is my understanding the World Skeet Shoot and NSCA Nationals pack the place with participants and vendors. I have no information on the up north Satellite locations. I am a sunbelt kind of shooter. Arizona and Florida seem to be doing well. The Southwest is not.
