New Shotshells w/wads, 1 1/8th oz @1250 fps' And 1924 Target settings are too hard for you, You are Nothing but Whineyass Cry Babies..Afraid of Competetive Targets that our Forefathers Shot. And Real All Americans Shot before NW Messed with em.; Same goes for the ATA, Neil Winston, Rob Taylor and all you BOD, CHC, Combined, no competetiveness amongst you. Doc quote: With all that has Evolved, New Trapguns, Adj. Ribs, Adj Combs, Voice calls. New Shotshells w/wads, 1 1/8th oz @1250 fps' Doc, do you use a SxS or Pump for doubles ?
Hey Doc, found a replacement site for your Ljutic!!! It comes in SS to match the finish if you prefer?
Yes a sight, and was just trying to poke some fun with Doc, as he's proposing going back a 100 years, so thought a Sextant should be appropriate to replace his Modern Day Red Dot. Sorry if it got lost in translation!!
Don't laugh guys, it also doubles as a navigational tool. Great for finding your way from post 1 to 2, or finding your car. Great for us old guys.
I know what it is and what they are used for, More Columbus BS, Columbus says he never shot t They used sgl Bbls too. Do you always need something to bitch about, Cmon, be constructive, not destructive, Flyers are a real Challenge. GB..................................DLS
Nice SEXTANT For Global Positioning, you need a moon, or sun to use it,possible Star, if it is a clear nite, Red Dot Site works, day, nite, Rain, or Snow, Wind, Earthquakes, Etc. GB.......................................DLS
We need sound Constructive Conversations to make any changes in the ATA For betterment of the Sport. The Target settings in 1924 that HB posted DID NOT NEED TO BE CHANGED, The design of the Voice Calls, were the best, They shot 1 1/4 oz loads too w/o plastic wads, just a wrapper, and powder cards. Advancements over the years did not need to make narrower, shorter, Soft Targets. The wider targets took SKILL, NASCAR ruined racing w/restrictor plates, I think the WANKEL Rotary engine would have helped racing, but was hard on Brakes, as Compression did not slow the car, INDY lost because of a $3.00 bearing on their Turbo Car. Maybe go to #7 Nickle Shot, or #8 Nickle Shot, would help Patterns. GB...............................DLS
Cmon Guys be 100% Constructive, not negative or Destructive, this may be OUR only chance to get changes made. GB.....................................DLS
Doc, You are correct about the need for some serious discussion with the EC about the direction of the sport. If the EC would agree the members would flock to the request to take part in the discussion. I know I would. Roger C.
I won my class of doubles at the Kentucky State Shoot, Non-Resident, chucking my Model 12 w/a release trigger, I would like to have another Model 12 that shoots as high as the one I used to shoot, I won my class in Doubles at Missouri Fall Handicap using the same Model 12, My trophy was a set of Silver Candle Holders w/Glass Chimney's. GB.....................................DLS
I can also say I won every 500 bird Marathon I shot at Airport Gun Club and have the Trophies to prove it. And they are in Trap & Field Magazine, so are the doubles wins at Missouri, and Las Vegas. I was winner and runner-up in Numerous Handicap Events, at Missouri, and Las Vegas and pics are in Trap and Field, and I was in my 60s when I did those. GB.....................................DLS
Mr. Pump, I have a small wager with another member that you have accomplished more than GB. Your post does kinda imply it anyway. Please help me out and post all your accomplishments in Trap shooting. And please, don't be modest. I'm sure that you have to have many or you wouldn't have entered the above dirogatory post. Like the saying goes, It ain't bragging if you can back it up so go ahead and show us you weren't just being an asshat Thank you, I'll wait for the list If you have any trouble posting it you can contact a guy calling himself BIG don. He could probably help you out since he, at one time, thought the same thing you do.
"I stand up for The Competetive 1924 Targets, I GOT BALLs" What the hell does this mean? You have balls????? As opposed to those who may disagree with your ranting and raving? We all know you used to be able to shoot and shot well. Hell, I was right there in your corner when you beat Big Don, but you're kicking a dead horse. I was a late comer to this sport so really don't have a dog in this fight; I'll pay my dues, show up at the shoots and fire at whatever gets thrown up. It's just a past time, one of many. You are never, ever going to see Trap shooting venues, prizes or attendance like it was 40 years ago. But yelling and hollering and denigrating current shooters ( let alone that totally weird divergence into NASCAR) just makes you look like some weird old man stuck in the past.
Columbus, You do not have to read DOC'S posts. He is preaching to the men that care about our sport. The current batch of shooters are not competitors, and most never will be. The people that care about the sport are being over run by the wooseis that can not measure up to the competition that was in this game, so they are dumbing it down to a feel good sport. Roger C.
I must have missed the memo that states you HAVE to read the docs post. One thing is sure. If someone is a "late comer" they have no idea how great it used to be. And if you are some kind of coach you are stuck with the system in place and I understand you can't say anything about the ata in front of the kids. Even though the ata management SUCKS! I hope they never change. I hope you all enjoy your "hobby".
How is it being "dumbed" down? And if it is, why aren't all the old time shooters just walking away with whatever money there is to be had? Are there any disgruntled female shooters or is Doc just preaching to "the men"? I've said it before and I'll say it again, problems with ATA didn't get there on the newer shooters watch, it got there on yours. Calling people wusses, saying winning now doesn't matter because it's all xxxxx targets doesn't hurt TPTB and just discourages new people from getting involved. The ATA of yesteryear is gone; you aren't getting it back. If you hate what it's become then stop paying dues, don't shoot ATA events.
Colunbus, I can see getting into a discussion with you would be like talking to TJ's toaster, so I'll just pass. Roger C.
From the pathetic numbers they get at that place in IL. I think THOUSANDS have done just that I would rather take $500 to a casino than give one cent to the ata
No answers to my questions? Why not just let GB answer as he's the OP. But, it's cold outside and I'm coming down with some respiratory bug so I really have nothing to do but sit at the computer. I'll play Devil's Advocate - give my five things, in priority, that you would like see the ATA do. And they have to be viable. List what you want and what the result would be in regards to improving the sport.
OK, I will play, but I have only one suggestion which should be do-able but given the attitude of most of the ATA management team will most likely will never happen because they refuse to see themselves as the problem. 1. Fix the unwritten and unrealistic process for getting changes made to the rules, by-laws and policies via the delegates. The members would be responsible for writing and approving a new process for requesting changes. Once this new process has been approved by the membership, it must be posted on the ATA website and in the ATA rule book. All future requests for changes would then be required to use the new process. Want faster and wider targets, use this new change request process. Want 1oz or less shot, use the new change request processes. Want to change the current FTF or blooper rules, use the new change request process. Want to eliminate the practice of buying the president a new gun, use the new change request policy. Want to change anything, use the new change request process. The members would be the ones who would vote to approve or disapprove the requested change.
Garry, How do you go about fixing the way to make changes to the way the EC controls the ATA organization????? Roger C.
Roger, I would start with the following: Section 1.E. BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Corporate Powers of the ATA under Illinois law are vested in the Board of Directors, which consists of a Delegate from each State and Province. Section 1.F. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND ATA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 2.The Board of Directors has delegated direction of the affairs of the ATA to the Executive Committee between meetings of the Board of Directors. Ask the Board of Directors (50 plus state & province directors) to take back control of the ATA in complicance with Section 1.E. in the rule book. Ask the BOD to stop delegating their corporate powers to the Executive Committed. Fire the executive committee because they will have no longer be in power. If necessary, find a few directors who are willing to file a lawsuit against the ATA to get the corporate powers back into the hands of the BOD, to be in compliance with Illinois law. Elect state & province directors who will promise to change the current unrealistic process of for requesting changes to the rules, by-laws and policies that are approved by a vote by the membership.
Since the Corporate Powers of the ATA under Illinois law are already vested in the Board of Directors, the BOD already has the legal power to make what ever changes they want, including firing the Executive Committee and the Executive Director. The BOD already has the legal power to make any changes they want. The BOD already has the legal power to write and implement a realistic process for members to use for requesting changes to the rules, by-laws and policies of the ATA.
The BOD already has the legal power to make void Section 1.F.2 in the rule book. 1.F.2.The Board of Directors has delegated direction of the affairs of the ATA to the Executive Committee between meetings of the Board of Directors.
I really don't see what most of the BOD do when they attend meetings. Most are just running their local state / Providence business. They don't seem to be able to do much at the ATA meetings except sit there and listen to what the EC has done, without questioning anything. I guess from what I have heard and read, questioning the EC wouldn't get anywhere anyway. I would venture a guess that not 10% of the BOD would even get up at an ATA meeting to ask questions posed by their membership. I was once told they don't want to "Rock the Boat". That does appear to be part of the problem.
My point is the Board of Directors, already have the power to make the necessary changes within the ATA to stabilize and grow the ATA. The Board of Directors already has the power over the Executive Committee and the Executive Director. If the 50 plus directors on the board are not up to the task of managing the organization, then they already have to power to hire professionals who have a proven track record of turning around an organization that is on life support. These professional managers understand the importance of of restoring trust between management and the members as one of their first priorities. These professional managers also understand the importance of listening to the suggestions from the members and allowing the members to be a part of the decision making process. I think it's time for the membership to hold the BOD accountable for the corporate power they are already have under Illinois law. The BOD has the power to rock the boat and the sooner the better. If the current members of the BOD are not willing to use the corporate power they already have, then it's time to replace those that are unwilling with members that will use their corporate powers to move the organization forward. It would be interesting to see how many of the 50 plus members of the BOD even understand that the corporate powers of the ATA has been invested in them according to Illinois law.
Are there any currently shooting 1924 traps n guns at their "home" club? Perhaps the place to start with big changes is to see how things work locally..... I believe our tiny club is shooting wide targets and some club members use pumps and side by sides now so probably no big deal....... My son regularly shoots my grandfathers Win model '97..... Don't see any of the old suits n hats though....... nor any of the old ammo. Larry
The Red Dot works, expect when the battery goes dead. If the battery goes dead when the scope is full of Cape Buffalo it's a bad deal. I have a friend that can tell you about that.
