A few days ago I was talking with Brad about his previous shooting prowess which many believe have gone down hill over the passage of time. He said that he would like to have a venue to take on all comers to prove he still has it. The more we spoke about it the more excited he became. So here it is: What: Brad Dysinger throw down shoot Where: Knox Sportsman Club, Beloit Ohio When: July 18th 2015 Hours: TBA Event details to follow Brad indicated that he wanted it to be a retro shoot so you will need to bring out your Model 12, Ithaca etc. along with your normal trap gun for the rest of the Non-Registered events of course. This is your chance to come out to a great shooting facility and take a crack at one of the has beens or maybe still is shooters. Dr. Longshot you have been called out by a one time big dog we need to see you there as the undisputed Grudge Match champion and see if you still have it. Roger Edgington
I forgot to mention one important thing. All of the proceeds from the events of the day will go to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Erie PA. I hope you will put this on your calendar, come out and have some fun and help our kids. Thanks Roger Edgington
Of course, you would not expect Brad Dysiner a trapshooting legend and Dr. Longshot a trapshooting legend in his mind to shoot anything but 3 hole 50 yard targets and let the cream of the shooting world rise to the top.
Doc and Dysinger.... Is there enough room for those two? Count me in. We should have a bunch of the regulars from ATC there.
Roger, I have a Remington 1100 circa 1978, fixed full choke and a non-adjustable stock. Does that count as retro? I seem to recall a rather large fellow that Brad used to hang around with shot one of those 1100 things (and pretty damned good too). Also, will Brad be shooting left handed or right handed? 12ga or 20ga? Is there a limit to the number of Past OSTA Presidents allowed at Knox at any one time? (If not, there probably should be!) Inquiring minds want to know.
Don, I hope you can make it over and spend the day with us. There will be good food, brown liquid of the Kentucky type and lots of activities to help the kids at Erie hospital. I have sent this along to Sara so we may have a group of old OSTA presidents there. Pass this along to others that may want to join in on the fun. Roger Edgington
If I can make it I will be there. The first thing I have to do is go back to that post Dysinger, the has-been, put up about which guns he shot well and which ones he didn't like as much. If he shoots the gun, WAIT A MINUTE!!! How about he shoots the gun WE pick? Flyersarebest
I think I still have that nice Remington pump .22 smoothbore sitting around. Watched a guy shooting dragon flys with one at a pigeon shoot at Walnut Creek one year. He did OK. Worked for him, should work just find for an old has-been. Flyersarebest
Roger you better recheck Dr. Longshot's record in the "grudge match". My Ohio friends tell me he got his lunch handed to him in retro target portion by a guy shooting a Model 12. Lefty
There's a vast difference between one that's earned a "has been there" title and the "neverwillbees". This could turn into a huge fun shoot and the kids will benefit as well!! Wish I could join in the fun! HAP
I was there watching that has-been at VANDALIA in the late 70's early 80's. He and the big guy could really put on the show. Flyersarebest
I am still waiting to hear from the good Doctor on whether or not we can count on his attendance. Inquiring minds want to know? Just let me know soon so I have time to get another brick made. Also I hope Sara Dean can bring her entire squad of ladies with their pink hats. Roger Edgington
Just heard from Sara Dean at Monroe Sportsmen's Club and they will be donating 10 rounds of practice as one of our door prizes. Rumor has it that Dysinger is on board with a hunt at his facility and Don Cogan has been asked to get on board with Jimmy Johns gift certificates. Will keep you updated as more door prizes roll in. Roger Edgington
Roger: I do not own a vintage trap gun, like a model 12, I do not even have a trapgun at this time, I shipped it out for a trade that did not go through, it is in transit to another dealer for a trade, but if God sees fit, and My left foot is still with me I will be there, with a different Trapgun, and maybe an operated on left foot, w/an orthopedic ankle, or an amputated left foot, all that is in prayer and God's hands, I have seen 2 doctors and both have the same opinions, and options. Last opinion was 2/20/15 by Dr. N.A. Cheney D.O. Surgeon Columbus, Ohio Dr.longshot
Rodger don't let Berlet know that Don might give Jimmy Johns away he'll be there a week early practicing. Brad
Roger, Does that mean you will be at Club Day to pick up the practice certificate? I need to buy a winner that day so I have gambling money for Vegas. Sara
Absolutely. I will have tickets to sell. Henry rifle just came on board with a 44Mag and a military commemorative rifle along with a wall clock. Door prizes are starting to add up to benefit our kids. Thanks go out to all of you who can support this. Roger Edgington
Hey Roger, What if you don't have one of the vintage versions? Is it still fair game to take the codger on with a modern version? If it is, I'm in. Sounds like a good time!!
If I remember correctly by the time the mod 12 came into play the good Dr. was on full coast. The good Dr. may have lost the crumbs but he got the cake.
Where's that pic of the brick. I think they put the WINNERS name on it. Maybe they put the LOSERS name on the bottom of it. Flyersarebest
ROGER is there any truth that there may be some of those delicious JJ sandwiches?? Rumor has it that there may be some adult beverage available on site also?? Next question is directions to the club. What is the date and time and what kind of weapon can we use and will we really be able to furnish our own shells and also the shells that Brad uses?? All these questions and now all we need is some answers. The Henry rifle is also a great drawing card. Looks like you will also have some door prizes. Keep me posted as plans progress. Dave Berlet
Roger, Happy to help out! Great charity and the shoot will be a lot of fun. Still waiting on a ruling from the ATA anti-Christ on whether or not my 1100 will be allowed in the retro category.
Since food seems to be attracting some shooters I may be able to contribute my world famous pies too. (Just as long as this doesn't fall on NY State Shoot) Sara
Oh crap! If Sara is bringing pies you can bet Harlan will be lurking close by. There goes the neighborhood!
Seems like this shoot is taking off as planned. So in an effort to accommodate all who would like to participate, vintage guns including Duck Dog's 1100 and all other trap guns work for the day. We are hoping to get some great door prizes so if any of you have access to free practice rounds at various club, flats of shells etc. that will help to round out the day and put us in a position to offer more door prizes. If Sara brings pies it is a must attend event especially her famous black bottom banana cream pie. Dave here are some answers to your questions. First with regards to directions to the club I will have Gene Snively get on here with those since he will be helping out quite a bit on this day. Will there be adult beverage, you bet and it will be of the Kentucky kind to go along with the Kentucky 9's that Brad will be shoting that day. Bring your own shells or new as you choose. Any weapon can be used we just want your attendance and support for this day to help our kids. Practice up on your protector skills as one of the events will be a partner protector from the 27 yard line. Targets will be set to 3 hole 50 yards as you would expect. Oh, and I forgot it will be shot on a wobble trap so that we do not have so many shoot offs. Anymore questions, just ask and I will get you the info as this day of fun develops. Roger Edgington
Gary, i'm not real good with computers. I went to the Cardinals Web site and didn't see a shoot for that date. Rick
Dave Berlet, I have just confirmed that Duck Dog will be sending over Jimmy John gift cards/coupons for door prizes. Dr. Longshot, since I work for a healthcare facility I will bring over a wheelchair for the day. Dysinger said that this may slow you down a bit shooting from a chair but did not think it would impede your ability to still post up big against those who show up to Dump the Doc. Roger Edgington
Basfshm: It is not at the Cardinal, It is at a club in Columbiana County, Knox Gun Club Info is posted above
Quick update on the raffle prizes for the day. Henry Big Boy in 44Mag Henry EMS Tribute rifle Henry Wall Clock Handguns to be announced 10 rounds of practice from Monroe Soprtsmans Club 10 rounds of practice from Copley Trap Hunting trip Thorn Bottom Hunting Jimmy Johns coupons Cash Prizes Pheasant mount Sara Dean's famous pies More to come as folks get on board to help the Shriners Hospital in Erie PA Will have food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries BBQ chicken Remember the date 7/18/15 start time of 11:00 AM for a day of fun.
Are there any camp sites near the club? I assume since Duck Dog's 1100 has passed the sniff test, my SX-1 can come out of the safe?
Doc, I like the photo and will wait to hear from Duck Dog on what year it was taken. Face looks familiar, but the body seems to be from an earlier period of time. By the way, I just heard form Knox and they are adding a flat of shells to the raffle. Looking for more raffle items if you shooters can get out there and round up some items to make a larger donation to the Shriners hospital in Erie PA. Thanks Roger Edgington
Rosey- - - Paradise Lake Park is a few miles down the road. See link.... http://paradiselakepark.com/
Doc, You do great work! I haven't been that slim since........I don't think I was ever that slim! I'm sure looking forward to this shoot. I want to win that pheasant hunt from Thornbottom!
More info on the shoot. In addition to the raffle items listed above we are adding: Flats of shells Henry 22 rilfe Marlin model 91 17cal with scope Charter Arms 38 chick special Ruger 380 Ruger 9MM This will be a fun filled day with all proceeds going to the Shriners Hospital in Erie PA. Wow if the picture from above is actually Big Don it has to be the best picture of Big Don that I ever saw. Dave Berlet
Zoltan looks like a great shoot. Brad inquired about Dirk and I being on his team, but since Jaqua's trap range closed Dirk will have to scratch to get enough 16yd targets to be eligible for the state team so we will probably shoot at the Cardinal that day. I was just wondering if I had to be present to participate in the raffles? Dave Berlet
You do not have to be present to win. We will arrange to have guns shipped to your FFL to pickup and register if you are not on site. If on site we will have an FFL dealer take care of any needed processing of paperwork. If you win the Jimmy Johns coupons we will let you know how the food tasted. You are also welcome to add to our prizes as most of us know you are an excellent woodworker. Thanks Roger Edgington
Any new on whether DLS will be able to make it now? Last I heard he was having surgery and was losing 1/3 of his leg?
I used to watch Brad and many of the other Top Guns shoot back when I started shooting (1975) ATA, the Grand Etc ... They were all there and in the mix with the every day shooters from all over the country ... They get there because they dedicated themself to the game ... Things have changed over the years, not sure how much Dysinger shoots anymore, but you can bet on one thing throwing him down ain't going to be an easy task ... It will be fun to watch either way for those who attempt or attend ... Good Luck to all ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Wow, again many thanks for the pictures and taking the time to post them ... I'm keeping tabs, you got a few beers coming from me one of these days in apprciation for keeping us posted ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Quick update on the shoot. We have received items that will be in a silent auction at the shoot. Items include: 10 rounds of practice at North Lawrence Fish and Game 10 rounds of practice at Sportsmen's Gun and Reel 10 rounds of practice at Monroe Sportsman's Club Krieghoff cap, t-shirt, travel cup and towel Beretta 4 t-shirts and caps White Flyer 6 caps 100 Straight Products pad adjuster and recoil pad Sara Dean specialty pie Remember all proceeds from this day goes to the Shriner's Hospital in Erie PA. Thanks Roger Edgington
Just added a 50/50 raffle and a corn hole tournament to the days activities. Hope to see you there. Roger Edgington
Are the boards going to be the regulation distance apart? Or are you going to shorten it up to give even the first timers a chance. You can always just let them stand a little closer than the guys that have played the game for a few years. That would seem like the kinder gentler way of doing it. Flyersarebest
I'm betting on Dysinger, all proceeds to the charity of your choice or mine ... It won't be close to fair if he's shooting a Model 12 on top of it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I'd like to bet against that Dysinger fellow but seeing his name in the headlines so many times while reading the old Trap & Field magazines . . . I just can't do it.
I think everyone with the exception of a few and those from Illinois who were part of the offset from the other shooters they lost when they moved ... I would love to be there, wifes got Doctors appointment's so we can't leave home just yet ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Is the regulation distance is 24 feet for casual games? Seems I read that somewhere. But where is the measurement taken from? The front of the boards, I just looked it up Bags should be 6"in x 6"in and weigh approx. 15 ozs GB DLS
Hey Roger-- Could you get me the address of Knox...The ATA website has an error for them and the OSTA website is not working at this moment. It's been too long since I have been there to remember how to get there... Picked up some fresh peaches today for pie # 1 and pie #2 will be your black bottom banana cream. See you Saturday, Sara
Thanks JW for giving Sara the info she needed. As for the pies I expect a very busy bidding process since having tasted your pies you are the Queen of the Crust.
Roger it's raining here again today, I'll be heading your way in a little bit. If it is raining tomorrow I'm not going to shoot my model 12. I don't want it to get wet so I'm bring my old 682 along. See you soon. BD
Brad that is the best Compliment I have heard yet on Sara's pies, Wow bet that is SOME GOOD PIE. Gary Bryant Dr.longshot
Gary, bring your checkbook and a fork. Sara is bringing a peach pie and her famous black bottom banana cream. Whoever wins the bids on these are in for a great treat.
Brad, Glad to hear you aren't shooting your model 12 if if rains, that will allow me the chance to shoot it!!!!! Heading over to casa de Snively in a few minutes. See ya'll tomorrow! Don
Well the shoot is over and it was a big success with the Shriner's Hospital in Erie PA being the big winner. I will wait till Joe has a chance to post the pictures but a quick update is that Dr. Longshot was there shooting out of a wheelchair and had the crowd in awe of his ability. More to come once Joe gets the pictures on here for you to see. Thanks to all who came and supported our charity event, and yes Sara you are the Queen of Crust on your pies.
I tried my hardest to make it. The 8 hours I had to put in today at work gave me 64 for the week. Being a "boss" sucks. Flyersarebest
Just a heads up for all who were not able to attend. 7/16/16 will be the next Shriners Benefit Charity Shoot at Knox. We will start working on the program now, but mark you calendars and don't miss this great event. Thanks Roger Edgington
Zolton the real shooters finished 1st and 2nd in the miss and out. I want credit to go where it is deserved, what a husband and wife team they make. There were a lot of good shooters there even in the heat, I could not go up the steep ramp in my wheelchair, But I was late getting there, had to wait for someone to wake up and put my wheelchair in my car., It was quite a drive 152 miles. Brad still had his form that I remember, the lite loads he was shooting did not un-lock the Model 12, he had to push the forearm Fwd to get it to unlock, after each shot. Brad has that driven shooting form, you have to see it, I cannot explain it. Always a straight heads up, gun straight back to the shoulder, and smoke. Gary Bryant Dr.longshot
Roger Please send me an e-mail as the date draws closer. We would like to make a donation. bbgunssturgis@gmail.com Bruce Bowen 100 Straight Products Inc www.100straight.com
