What was your first Trap gun? How many have you owned? ( Please, don't name them all. Unless you really want to) and what are you shooting now? Win. Model 1400.... 24.... an OLD MX8. The "Now What" would also come into play if your current one isn't working out the way you thought it would. As in, Damn, Now What do I buy? Flyersarebest
Bought a BT-99 in 1976. Some guy had ordered it , and never picked it up from the gun shop. I was shooting a ladies BT-99 just to see what it shot like, and was shooting well with it, at a league shoot one night. She told me about this other gun, and arranged for us to go over to the gun shop about 9:00PM that night. It was love at first sight, I bought it for $375.00. I was 16 years old at the time. Still own that gun. It has taught a few people how to shoot trap, including My wife. Owned and bought a lot of trap guns since then, in all types of actions. I hate to admit it, but I don't even know how many trap guns I own ! currently shooting one of Joel Etchen's 687 Beretta combo's, the old style fixed rib top single model. Pretty good shooter, but am wanting one of Dennis Devaults new combos. With a stock built for me. They look like a heavy duty trap gun that will be very durable. That's My story, and I'm sticking to it.
My first gun that I shot trap with wasn't a trap gun. It was a Navy Arms O/U that I bought at Ames for $189 when I was 18. It was bought for rabbit hunting, an upgrade from the Mossberg 600 I had been using the previous years. Bought a BT99Max several years later, then a KS-5 that I bought at Jaqua's. It's a K-80 today with the hinge pin and top latch upgrades and Allems roller release. Have had it 4 years now. A Stock Lock is being made for it right now that will be done this week.
I started out with an old field single barrel hammer gun I forget the brand. My first trap gun was a Remington 870 TB. New a $150. Still got that one. A lot of guns in between Now a Kolar T/S with a Remington 3200 combo as a back up and doubles gun when I shoot them.
First trap gun... Winchester Model 12 featherweight in 1959.... Number of trap guns owned....... 18-20 or so.... Current gun I'm shooting.... Perazzi MX3 Special Combo 34/30" Set. (Best gun of all that I have owned, by the way)
First Trap gun was an 870. First time I shot it I ran 50 straight. Since then you don`t want to know.
Browning A-500- not much of a gun for Trap- Can't count how many in the middle- but settled on a Stainless Monogun.
JC Higgins pump. You know, the one with the choke tubes in a ported grenade launcher at the end. I ruined many a pullers hearing with that one until dad bought me a Model 12. That was back in 1963. I suppose I've been into around six K-80's since then!!
My 1st trapgun was a Remington 1100, then a Beretta 302, 3 Beretta O/U, first Perazzi MX-8 combo in 1980, a TM-1, 3 more MX-8's, 1 MX-3 combo, 2 Baker barrels for the Perazzi's, 1 Remington 90-T Hpar, Krieghoff K-80 Trap Special and a Perazzi MX2005 combo. Sold all except the K-80 and the MX 2005. Also many handguns. All this over a 40 year period
My first New Trapgun was a Rem 1100 Trap Purchased at Smith Bros. Hdwe, Columbus Ohio Whsle less than $300, then to a Browning Broadway 32" purchased from Ed Hyster a jeweler $400, then a Model 12 solid rib form a Pawn Shop Mt. Vernon Ohio, broke a 100 in Hdcp with it, registered 24.5 yds Springfield, Ohio July 4th 1970, too many other guns since then. Dr.longshot
Three seasons ago borrowed an Ithaca SxS in 20ga and shot first round of trap. Loved trap, wanted to return the gun, bought a 20ga CZ Redhead. A year later a used 12ga CG Summit Limited came in at a price I couldn't turn down. And last fall I bought my current 12ga, a DT11 ACS.
From a borrowed 20ga. sxs to a new DT11 in three years. Gentlemen, this is someone that got the bug. Good Luck with the DT and hope you break em' all. Flyersarebest
Started with my father-in-laws 20 ga 870 wingmaster. Have gone thru a few since then, but have settled on my Etchen combo. But I find myself thinking about a Kolar daily.
Yes, got the bug lol. But there's another factor . . . no matter how I count them, there just aren't a lotta years left. The Future is Now.
Rem. 1100 to a Win. 1400 and then back to the 1100. After many thousands of rounds, the 1100 starting spitting pieces out of the action and I started using my Beretta O/U until I picked up my current gun, a '70,s Beretta MK2 which is serving me well.
My first was a Model 12 with a mismatched stock that shot flatter then believeable...Ended up with a Ljutic Mono that shoots about 80% high after forty plus years. If I had bought the Ljutic first I would have been able to fly and shoot anywhere with all the money I would have saved in the meantime. BUt, it was a lot of fun in the process.
Single shot Brazilian 20ga(8yrs old first time i shot competitively).... 16(I'm young yet).... Citori trap thats highly modified
I sit and think about things like this and tears well up in my eyes ... I have shot many ( too many actually) guns over the years still gravitate back to my old Model 12 from time to time ... The amount of money I shot out the end of a barrel of a shotgun would make many a sane man cry ... If you think about it, you can make yourself sick ... I laid off shooting for one reason or another and ended up putting that money into a car that now sits in my garage if I don't take it to one of the local shows ... 1967 Plymouth Bel I, 2 door sedan with a Hemi in it, could of been a pile of used shotgun shells or a pile of dust from target matter ... I got more guns now than a man really needs or should have at my age in case something would happen to me and my wife would have to get rid of them, cars also for that matter ... Thanks for bringing up the subject, now I can go out in the garage and count the flats of shells and make sure I have enough just in case this is the year I go back and start shooting a lot again ... Bought 3 new pistols last week can't wait for it to cool off so I can go and shoot them ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Take a look at the 3200 set on the For Sale page. If you like Remington, that deal is hard to beat. And, you have almost $800.00 left over for shells. Flyersarebest
Just bought a S&W AR-15 5.56 w/30rnd mag. on sale, and a Taurus 9mm DT-111 on sale at the same time, today I bought a scope for the AR I need to find scope mounts that I will like for it. GB DLS
Browning broadway..inside of barrels rotted! In 1992 Bought another Browning (new) from Tammies husband Still shooting my old friend that looks awful due to a bottle of Gateraid spill which ruined the finish. I did buy another Browning from Tammies husband..a new 725. One day I will begin to shoot it. Greta c
First one was a Citori Trap, then 7 different traps guns to my final Kolar. All in the past 11 years.
