The Academy site gives a great description of the Gun Club Target shell, brass plated head, hull suitable for reloading and also indicates "Chilled Shot" . Does this indicate either little or no antimony? My experience with "chilled" indicates basically pure lead. Larry
Chilled shot has some antimony. "Drop shot" is pure lead, i.e. no antimony. My father told me stories of my Grandfather astounding other duck hunters when he was the first to use the new Chilled Shot ammo that had just been introduced. One of his astounding feats was "shooting thru a wooden fence" that was behind the boarding house where where he stayed while duck hunting. It was about 80 miles to his hunting location, and he took the train to get there. He also used a Winchester Model 97 which was the first pump-gun seen by most of the other hunters there.
I have my Grandad's, not a takedown though. My son has shot numerous rounds of trap with it and just loves the gun. 24's and 25's are no problem with it with him shooting...... I told him to treat the ol' girl tenderly as it is quite old.... My Grandad bought it for $3 or $4 shortly after he returned from WWI and it was used then...... Grandma like to skinned him as "they just did not have the money". Larry
