Will the lead shot curtains give the CC an unfair advantage over local shoots in OH and the tri state area? Will these hurt attendance in Sparta?
I predict that the backgrounds will be so good, so uniform that the targets will look like big orange trash can lids. Scores will go through the roof, shooters will come from miles away and will stop shooting anywhere else. On top of that Luke and company at the CC will be able to pick up all that lead with a vacuum and the clean reclaimed shot will be sold at a fraction of current costs to all who wish to reload. The profits will be poured back into CC development resulting in a facility that is so far ahead of and so superior to anything else in the country that even the thought of suffering through a shoot in the middle of nowhere will be a thing of nightmares. CC will become the Mecca of trap, right here in the Heart Of It All. That answer your question?
Shot curtains are a great idea. Blue is the best color. And, yes, they will improve scores, and they make lead reclamation much easier. Shot curtains also allow trap fields to be placed closer to housing and other facilities.
Yes! In lieu of pictures, a question - Are these hanging curtains, or a covering over a berm like I have seen in pictures of European clubs?
Google Redlands shooting club and you can see them in action ... Probably one of the greatest things that could happen to trapshooting since pop tops on beer and sliced bread ... You can easily see where something of this nature would pay for itself in being able to reclaim shot and make it available to the shooters ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Just googled Redlands. How does the shot curtain affect the targets when the wind is blowing? Roger C.
Good question, have not shot there with the curtains up so I don't have any first hand information ... Send Terry or Jackie a e mail and ask them, I am sure they will tell you from their experience ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I like the idea of painting tree murals on banks 5 and 6. I also heard they may have some bank colors with more challenging backgrounds to encourage early registration.
Columbus, Does this mean they will not need any ones reclaim machinery. The EC may ban the shot curtain use at registered shoots. If all clubs go that way the fantastic direction person may lose some business. Roger C.
They will probably have a 90% or better reclaim rate. All they have to do is multiply the targets shot by X 1.125 ounces divide by 90% , multiply by the sale price of lead to get the pay back time element. It may be surprisingly short. It would be ideal in areas where shot is falling in waterways. With a little luck, maybe the EPA will subsidize the instulation. Roger C.
The EPA money was from the OHIO EPA not the national. Do you think Illinois EPA has 325 grand lying around for sparta?
ODNR also supplied grant money for the shot curtains. When Fishburn was inducted into the ODNR Hall Of Fame he was presented with a check for the project.
Looks like I got a bit mixed up. While I was at the ceremony I thought the check came from ODNR, but actually was from the Ohio EPA as DoubleG pointed out. I thought the check was from ODNR since they were inducting Jack into the ODNR Hall Of Fame. My mistake. https://www.morrowcountysentinel.co...g-range-receives-grant-for-lead-shot-recovery
Mr Fishburn is obviously a Special kind of guy ... Well deserved induction into the HOF for progressive work and improvements for the shooting sports ... No charts, graphs, or BS like some others we all know ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Some men give, many take. We have seen an excess of takers in our sport. I respect Mr Fishburn, he is an astute business man and giver. To bad he is not Pres. of the ATA. Then he could clear the swamp along with Pres Trump. Roger C.
The shot "curtain" in ATA shoots are more costly compare to what they used in Europe because yardages from HC. I know the Italians use a different ground covering over the shot fall zone because everything were shot from 15 meter line (and mostly under weather covered stations). They estimated 95% shots recovery rate with trenches build along the edge of it. Some ranges have build in collecting buckets, shots just roll down through the angled trenches and collected by those buckets. They don't need to hang the curtains and worry about wind resistant and pole cost.
The green targets at Redlands are MUCH easier for my eyes. They look like trash can lids and my eyes just lock on to them. It also gives a steady back ground with no distractions ( the freeway is behind the screen). Overall I like the screen
I was told it would take 6 months for all the shot screens to be made. If I get any info on when they are starting to put them up I'll let you all know..
