The Honor shoot for him and his Wife, I would go as far as it not be an ATA Shoot. I would like to see one of the AMERICAN TRAPSHOOTER CHAMPIONSIP SERIES be held there on Memorial Day next year. We Ohioans Owe something to Jack Fishburn and his wife for their Extreme Dedication to Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. Jake Spangler can you step up to the Plate and help make this happen so Jack Fishburn can see OUR Appreciation? This Non-Registered shoot has the possibility to be the Biggest Shoot Event Ever Held. I may be stepping Out of Bounds on this, But that is my Personal Feelings, Can WE make this Happen. This is the Biggest Trapshooting Facility In Ohio Bar None. My Prayers are being Said for this to Happen, I hope others would Join me in Our Prayers of Dedication. Gary Bryant.............................Dr.longshot
Isn't Luke the Trap manager? And which of these shoots should they cancel? One is always on Memorial Day weekend, the other starts 2 days later. Karen's Cup May 25th - 27th Buckeye Open May 30th - June 3rd
The goal is to honor Jack Fishburn and his wife. How about naming the new championship venue that being talked about the Jack Fishburn Championship?
My comment above assumes the new championship venue will be held at the Cardinal Center which may or may not be true.
I feel like I honor him every time I spend a dollar at the cardinal center and $0.50 ends up in his pocket. It is not like he is doing anything out of generosity, he is a businessman taking advantage of an opportunity to make money.
Well John Wick, great handle BTW, when you were going over Jack's books did it show where the other .50 cents of EVERY dollar you spent went?
There’s no doubt that Mr. Fishburn is a very shrewd and successful businessman. Do you really think he is losing money on the CC? Does anyone really think he bailed out the OSTA because he is a nice guy or as an opportunity to make a substantial return on his investment? It’s a premiere facility for sure but let’s not confuse the motivation here....
I have no doubt he is a very good business man. If you do a little research it looks like he is admired in the community for his help and donations also. I believe there was a park the county was building a few years back. My question, and I really want to know, is when you were looking over Jack's books, where did the other .50 cents go. That's all I asked.
JohnWick: I have no respect for you and your comments on & About Mr. Fishburn. GB.............................DLS
Yes, It is a huge loss. I know the general manager for Fishburn Enterprises. The CC is Jack's hobby and pride. Only what I can read on the screen.
I'm not buying it. If anyone really thinks that a successful, self-made businessman who is probably worth many tens of millions of dollars would invest the resources needed to build the infrastructure for a shooting grounds the size of the CC *without* a long-term plan to sustain a profit I have two tickets to the real world for you. It just isn't happening.
John.....we love it on this site when someone that knows nothing about the facts posts as often as you. Tell me when you meet Jack or know squat. Right now you dont know squat about Jack. Post often. The others may be lurking.
Ok, so you and Jack DIDN'T go over his books together and you just ass-umed HALF of what you spent was ALL profit for Mr. Fishburn?
If you are so informed why don't you share the facts with us then instead of crapping all over my logic? I'm sure we'd all love to hear about how one of the most conservative and successful businessmen in rural Ohio, who has no prior relationship with the shooting sports, decided to give all his money away to bail out the OSTA with no tangible business plan in mind? I'm not saying he isn't a great guy, isn't extremely generous, and didn't pretty much single handily save major trapshooting in Ohio when they didn't have a pot to piss in due to lack of prior planning . The handful of times I have had breakfast with him in the restaurant I didn't get the impression he was a man inclined to piss away a lifetime of acquiring wealth out of the goodness of his heart. Not to mention the lawyers, accountants, business managers, and (presumably) heirs that would fight that decision tooth and nail. My mind is made up. My observations lend me to believe that he is already making money or has a long term plan to make it on the CC and it's surrounding business entities. Prove me wrong.
Cripes....the nightmare continues for Bitter John here too. People that know Jack (a guy he obviously loathes) whose generosity is supported by his friends, are causing more restlessness for him. Suck it up John, there is already a trust and plan in case Jack's health fails. If you have facts contrary to that I would like too see them.
John Wick: Jack did not build the Cardinal Center in a day, He took it on himself to help the YOUNG SHOOTERS, Built Skeet Fields, Pistol Ranges, Rifle Ranges & Expanded the Sporting Clays Course, What Mr. Fishburn did is quite like what what Lex Wxner did w/the Limited Brands, and HIS Sporting Clays Course near New Albany, Both Men did miraculous things and I Congratulate Both of them for their Wisdom & Integrity, Lex Wexner built a Cancer reaearch facility, Jack Fishburn Built a Medical Facility near Marengo, owns a BEEF Farm sells his own MEAT for his Restraunt, and Cardinal Center Food Facility, Owns numerous Gas & Oil Wells, and He Has what I will Call a MIDAS Touch, I do not Know One NEGATIVE thing he has done. I admire Jack Fishburn in all his many accomplishments. Gary Bryant.................................Dr.longshot
You couldn't be more wrong. I think the world of Jack and I've tried to be very complimentary of him during this discussion. He single-handedly saved major tournament trapshooting in our state. I also agree he is quite generous with his time and money. My point being is that he isn't running a charity. He is a businessman. Please don't put words in my mouth and let my posts stand on their own accord. To use your words directly, if you have facts to the contrary of what I posted I would like to see them.
They did John. As mentioned the OSTA knows there is a trust and I did not take you words as complimentary. You insulted and attacked his motives. You have your opinion. jmho
The CC was a group effort. There was a lot of help in the "production" of the CC. Many of the brightest minds from the trapshooters in the tri-state area were part of the effort. Remember...........Cardinal Center threw registered targets before Sparta.
Mr. Wick obviously voted for Clinton. He feels profits are a bad thing unless all are donated to the so-called unfortunates who are unwilling to work. He sure has some liberal leanings.
My original question was never answered. How do you know that .50 of every dollar you spend is pure profit for the man? Why not .25 or .10 or any other number? Did you see the books or did you just take a wild ass stupid guess?
Obviously it was an exaggeration to make a point. Highly unlikely his profit margin is 50% so I agree with you there, especially with all the physical improvements he makes year-after-year to *invest in his business*. There are probably only two or three people in the world who know the real # and I highly doubt any of them are on this board. I'm reasonably sure the number isn't -($0.50) though, at least for the foreseeable future term. How long has the CC been in operation? 10 years now? Most businesses need to recoup their initial cash outlay and turn a profit within 7 or they close up shop. Obviously, quite the opposite is happening at the CC which again leads me to believe he isn't losing his shirt. I don't have any hard facts anymore than anyone who has disagreed with me on here have yet provided so feel free to continue to accuse me of pulling things out of my butt. However, having had some quantitative and qualitative experience at this kind of thing I've drawn my own conclusion which I've shared. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm dead wrong but as of yet no one has convinced me otherwise. It's a fun topic to debate.
Oh good lord, when did I say profits were a bad thing? Quite the opposite....those that take the risk deserve the rewards. Free market capitalism all the way! My argument all along has been that Mr. Fishburn isn't running a charity and didn't build the CC to lose money. If I didn't like the owner making money I wouldn't shoot there!
JohnWick: Please do not post anything about Mr. Jack Fisburn negative, He does not deserve it, All shooters and Patients can see what he has done, Let Alone the ONLY one to Step up and BUILD a COMPLETE shooting Venue for OUR YOUTH SHOOTERS. He deserves a PRESIDENTIAL AWARD, and a PULITZER PRIZE for his Enormous Endeavers.. I am going to BLOCK YOU ON THIS SITE. Gary Bryant
I may piss-off some people, but I think Mr. Wick has a point. I don't think he's downgrading Mr. Fishburn. Businessmen I have known didn't operate in the Red. Profit is not a dirty word. Regards.....Gerald
Earth to Gerald and Bitter John Jack's CC is his hobby. It is his form of competition. It is not his operation. You think businessmen don't operate in the red or have hobbies in the red. Then go to an ATA event. $300,000 motorhomes driven to Illinois to shoot for trinkets. Jack can afford his CC game. It isn't for trinkets. I hear there is a businessman that gives money to the ATA to keep the paltry grand afloat. He doesn't make much money off that although he got into the HOF. So keep the BS on planet crap..
I have never intentionally said a bad thing about Mr. Fishburn, quite the opposite I believe. I have said several times I admire him and all he has done. I have been a big supporter of youth shooting and welcome anyone else who does as well. I thought the point of this site was people could share thoughts and opinions without the fear of being blocked? ------------------------------------------------------------------ Be really clear here. Doc....if or when the series shoots get going they need a "Jack Fishburn" pot. At least an option named for Jack.
