It has been decades since I had loaded shotshells so when I started reloading again I figured, as before, the info in a manual would be pretty close to what was needed. So I pick up some Cheddites and some Downrange 12S-3 (1-1/8 oz) wads. In loading and then crimping, something doesn't seem right...the crimp seems too deep. Measured the shot drop and it weighed out correctly. I've included a picture of hull and wad. Click on the thumbnail to view it full size. It looks as if the wad is too short (1-11/16") for this shell. Although, this wad fits beautifully in a Federal case. Wrong wad? I've blackened the wad petals so they are more distinguishable. Anyone use Cheddites with 12S-3's?
I use 12So in place of 12S3 with an 1 1/8 in a GM hull. What does a primer have to due with the crimp?
Let me clarify...I was referring to the hull which is also Cheddite. I don't understand your question, although the primers are also Cheddites I didn't mention primers at all.
