Hi, I have several thousand AA and RXP compression hulls stored away, that I saved from years ago. They are in good shape, and I want to reload them. However, the wads over here in the UK are mostly B&P or Gualandi...not terrific in compression cases......I am taking a vacation in the US next month, and I shall be travelling through Nevada, Central California and Arizona. I intend to buy 5000 12g wads, and I was wondering a. which was the best wad (for 1oz load) and the best place to buy them. They seem quite expensive at Bass pro...?
Hmmm. You may want to check to see if the wads are still pliable / soft. The plastic gets old and dry. Then they tend to crack as they are used for reloading. When the shot and powder get mixed together you can have issues. Info taken from previous thread...... http://www.americantrapshooter.com/index.php?threads/winchester-aa-wads-shelf-life.3055/
I don't know how you plan on getting them back to the UK but being in Arizona I've not found very good prices locally. Who I use is CAC Associates as they have the best prices I have found and are very responsive to e-mail inquiries. You may want to see if you could have them shipped home while you are enjoying your holiday...Larry
OK, FG threw me with his post about old wads so I went back and read your OP. You have hulls and need wads. I would check on line to see if there were any companies or stores in the areas you are going to visit. Ask if they would ship to the U.K.and the cost. If they are a company they probably have a better rate than you could get purchasing them and trying to find an international shipper( ups, fed ex ) Here's an off the wall idea. You walk in a store and find the wads for what you are willing to pay. You bring along a big enough, heavy duty enough, duffle bag from home and you pay the airline fee for an extra checked bag on your way out of the greatest country on the planet. Gotta be less than shipping thru one of the above carriers. Good luck and by the way I have a few thousand once fired OLD red CF hulls myself. Nice aren't they?
Hi Larry, I have a good deal with the airline, got extra baggage allowance. Works out to be approx 5,000 wads in weight.
Yes, they are VERY nice! Shipping is not a problem, I carry a very large (and light) duffle bag, which will hold approx 5,000 wads. And I have extra baggage allowance, as I got a very good deal to travel first class back to the UK.
