got several older mounts [deer and antelope ]{late 80s} and the noses are looking like they are drying out. the horns on my antelope have lost the darker colors and look like they are drying out. anything I can do at home without sending them to a taxidermist?
Black shoe polish, in the sponge tip bottle form. Be careful not to overdo it. You can use a small artist brush to do around the hairline. I would also ask a taxidermist what they recommend.
Years ago a friend of mine who did some taxidermist work recommended using brake fluid to restore the texture of horns and noses. Put a small amount on a rag and rub over the area.
