What lead alloys are permitted in registered trap shooting? For example: what if I had 1% Zinc or 6% Tin?
I don't think there is anything prohibiting you from using whatever you can pour in the rulebooks, however, that being said, some of the clubs you shoot may have some restrictions on what the shot may, or may not, contain....
I don`t think anyone is going to rip your shells apart to check your zinc or tin content. Just keep them no bigger than 7 1/2`s.
I don't know of any club that has the ability/equipment to check an individuals shells to check the content of shells for % of zinc or tin. Just say'in it would be up to the individual as to other metals in their lead shot. Some club forbid steel shot on their properties.
Lead w/alloys mix, have not seen any, to the best of my knowledge, a test w/magnent for steel content, and club has to have a special shield on back of trap house, to stop ricocheting GB.......DLS
the term antimony refers to filler metals in the lead. that is how you make lead harder is to add tin or zinc or some other filler metal. look up antimony in a machinist handbook and see what it reads. that is the difference between magnum shot and chilled lead shot
Even if it's legal, I'd suspect that you be putting yourself at a disadvantage by using an alloy since the pellets you'd be shooting would be lighter and hitting with less punch than pellets made with more pure lead. Don't know how much of a disadvantage but there has to be some.
