No room in the inn -- Cardinal & Heritage Inn

Art says the motel is booked thru July and it is not going to be used by shooters until at least August. The motel was offering shooters $29.95 rooms. This could impact entries at the Buckeye and Ohio State Shoot.

All rooms now are booked at a higher rate due to a large pipeline in the area.

 

Maybe if there were more hotels closer to the Cardinal..........

Sounds like one of the same complaints about another shooting venue in .........

Yes, I've stayed in hotels or motels around Sparta, several times in fact.
Haven't made it to the Cardinal yet but hope to this summer for the SCTP Nationals in July.

They could have built a dozen more hotels near that place in IL. and there STILL would have only been 1745 shooters in the GAH event.

Well Win101 ...... I would guess that if "1 Hotel/Motel" is "booked" because of a large pipeline project in the area, others may be "booked" also.

Many "Trapshooters" are known to be "cheap", so it may have an impact with all the "cheap" rooms being "booked" .....

What do you think ?????

I have stayed at hotels near Sparta for the Grand.

I have stayed at hotels near the Cardinal for the Buckeye, State Shoot and Cardinal Classic. Most shooters seem to go south of the Cardinal for hotels as there are tons of choices. Myself and my shooting partner always go north of the Cardinal for hotels, just not as far as the Heritage Inn. We stay at the exit where Der Dutchman restaurant is located and always eat there. Going north seems easier from a traffic standpoint. We used to stay down around the Polaris exit but it gets pretty busy at rush hour.

The drive from our hotel to shoot at the WSRC was around fifty minutes. It has all been said before regarding the lack of infrastructure surrounding Sparta. But I gladly do the drive to shoot at the Grand just as I gladly do the long drive to get to the Cardinal from where I live. And both of those drives are shorter then the trip to Missouri for the big fall shoot.

I know from reading posts here that the Heritage has a regular group of people who stay there and enjoy the mans hospitality and very inexpensive rates. But there are enough hotels with close proximity to the Cardinal that the influx of pipeline workers booking rooms in the Mansfield area will have little to no affect on the number of shooters at the Cardinal.

My hope is with the economy picking up combined with cheaper gas prices that all shoots everywhere increase their numbers.

The bigger question would be "where do people like you come from?" Assuming there are more than one of you (god help us), I will answer the dumb question of the year.

Quite a few trapshooters with marginal income would stop at the CC from places like PA and Canada. With the lower price for motels the Canadians could afford the trip. Of course understanding this concept would imply you understand why Sparta is a failure.

The heart of the the trapshooting world is predominately blue collar shooters. That would include the blue collar shooters from PA, OH, MI, NY, IN, WV etc. Those shooters were kicked to the curb when the corrupt got their teeth into the grand.

The backbone of the trapshooting world was kicked to the curb with the continuing Sparta debacle. Note the 1745 vs 4,000-5,000

Gee, I thought you learned a small lesson from your last post....but again in case there are 2 of you in the world I will respond again.

It is against the law to sleep in your car in the park at Sparta.

The local po po does not allow you to sleep in your car at Walmart at Sparta. I tried that. The police chased me out.

If you are a blue collar worker you cannot drive whole day and drive another whole day and have a day to shoot. That keeps the weekend shooter out of Sparta.

You can sleep in your car at the CC but the older shooters have problems doing that.

Again, thanks for making the average on the site feel like rocket scientists.

 

As a small business owner myself, I'm very happy that Art has been able to book his rooms that far out. Art has been very good to the trapshooters and I am sure he will be there for us again in the future. If enough hotels get booked for the pipeline workers it is possible that it could impact the shoots, but I highly doubt that will happen. If Jack Fishburn feels that hotel availability is going to be a problem in the future, he will solve that problem the same way he solved the skeet field and pistol shooting area problem, he will build his own!

I have noticed the traffic/posts on this site have been dwindling. If you need a reason for the lack of posting you need look no further than the responses from Family Guy and User 1 to Win101 on this thread. This used to be a site where different opinions could be expressed without the type of sharply worded responses and personal attacks we see here. I hope this site doesn't continue down the extremely negative path that it seems to be on. If it does, I know I will have much better things to do with my time then posting here. Now if you feel you need to ban me from this site for my comments, so be it.

You are saying there were rooms available a month ago.....you are right. Ask for a room now for $29.95.

Also, some may wish to note it was never implied there is a shortage of rooms at the CC. The Heritage is a 30 minutes drive. Thousands of rooms are available much closer.

Art made almost no money on the discounted rooms. He did this as a favor to me as well as his support for the second amendment. Art is a legal immigrant from a country without a second amendment.

Art's number is (419) 589-3333. I can't get a room and I buy the beer for the motel on Friday of the shoots.

 

Walmart calculator not needed. A basic understanding of supply and demand is needed here.

When widgets are cheap and are in demand you are more likely to buy widgets.

Let's assume 30 shooters compete for the week that may not have attended if not for the cheap rooms. If each of the shooters shoot two events a day and they sh00t for 5 days the total number od entries would be 5 X 2 X 30 = 300 entries.

FWIW ..... I had no idea some people were so sensitive, so in the future it can just happen and then people can ask "why" later. That seems to be the "way" other places handle not making "threats". So I guess "hurt feelings" can be "hurt feelings", because some would prefer to "wonder why".

Sure looks like a Good place for the Ohio Trapshooting Association to step in or step up and possibly provide some local area info on lodging, entertainment, shopping(for the non shooters), and restaurants. Just a thought, or maybe someone at the Cardinal could provide this info. I'm sure there are some economical rates somewhere close. As said above a short drive south too Columbus gets you a very wide variety of choices. Happy Shooting

 

Brent, try the internet, you will be surprised what you might find ... The OTA has a lot of things to do besides baby sit trap shooters and step up ( ???) and give people road maps on places to stay and or eat ... There are to many people in this world that want everyone else to do for them what they should be doing for them self ... (you are not one of them of course ) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

I took a ride out to Shelby OH yesterday there is a constant flow of trucks from Texas hauling pipe going west on 30 I understand there are a lot of out of state pipe liners and there is no surprise why Art is full

 

Called Thursday, got a room at the Americas Best, old Days Inn, for the state shoot. It is the next exit south of CC.
