    Are PITA shooters in the HOF even if they never shot ATA targets?

    I would imagine the PITA has a HOF , so the answer would be yes (probably) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

    I meant or to rephrase....do you have to have shot ATA targets? What if you are the best and only shot PITA?

    Well the THOF requirements are a little confusing.

    They state that to be eligible, the proposed person has to have credentials based on an ATA-wide basis.

    Following Copied from the THOF Web site:

    Specific requirements for competitors are:

    Shooters with impressive records on an ATA-wide basis who are still living and have been in active competition for a period of 20 years or more. .
    Shooters who are deceased and have honored themselves in trapshooting on an ATA-wide basis for a significant number of years.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Reference to ATA wide basis is stated throughout the qualifications.
    I posed the question on how did Annie Oakley, Bogardus, Carver and other early shooters get put in when the ATA didn't come along until the 1920's.
    The response by one individual not involved with the THOF was "Don't be so picky".
    When I asked a very good friend who WAS on their Board of Trustees if he would look into having the wording changed so there would be no confusion, he told me he would but then passed away before he could get this straightened out.
    The ONLY reason I bring this to anyone's attention is, I was taken to task when I had submitted an individual who not only participated in ATA but also Bunker Trap. I was told I better leave off the Bunker part of his resume by the co-sponsor I had for this individual. My co-Sponsor was afraid the THOF would take this information wrong as it was Clearly Stated ~~~ATA-WIDE BASIS.
    Checking with THOF, I was told NO problem, submit ALL details, and they would sort them out.
    To answer your original question about a PITA shooter, I am sure History Buff can straighten this out for you..
    How about your take on this HB ???
    I would recommend that your question be properly answered by representatives from the Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc.
    My assumption is that current guidelines in use require an association with ATA registered shooting. I have always suggested to those submitting nominations on behalf of others, also include other shooting related achievements and contributions, such as wins in international tournaments, Olympics or providing testimony to Congress or a governing body on behalf of gun owners.
    The rules regarding HOF qualifications have undergone changes from time to time, since the earliest recorded guidelines in 1954. Here is the earliest report I have in my files on our Hall of Fame.
    1954, THOF Creation & Rules, S.R., 01DEC1954p422.jpg
    Note how they were amended just before the first selection in 1968.
    1968, THOF Guidelines Announced, T&F, JUN1968p61.jpg
    A construction strike prevented the first scheduled induction ceremony in 1968.
    1969, Inductees Need 25-Years, T&F, MAY1969p15.jpg
    I believe it was in the early to mid 1970's the rules were again amended to require only 20 years in the sport.
