By the looks of things the price is on the decline. Todays price is 0.83 per pound It has been going down since August 2014.
Fortunately I bought a ton of shot from a gentleman who was quitting the addiction due to age. $30.00/bag! I still pick up a bag if I can find it at $40.00/bag. I figure I can always sell what I have if I need to and probably make a few bucks in the process.
currently Recobs in Wisconsin is selling Lawrence Brand for $39.99 and Eagle Brand for $38.49. To bad I'm 600 miles away
I think the reason we have not seen a drop is that, unlike gasoline, you don't have anywhere near the competition to sell the stuff. If you had a supplier on every corner, you would see something happen. Once producers see that there is a willingness to pay a certain price, they don't see any reason to hurry a declining retail price.
my theory is that once the pipeline is filled with overpriced shot that there is low demand for [because of product is reached a point where the consumer not pay] when cheaper products appear, marketers see no reason to discount exiting stock just to fulfill customer demand. hence the $58 bag at Bass Pro or Cabelas that's sitting on the shelf. it will be a long time before prices drop.
When the price of lead gets down to where its suppose to be it will take time for the factories to get that lead price to us. Right now they have to get their money back on the high price lead. Once they do that the new low price will come around. In the 70's I remember shot was way up there for the times at $20.00+ per bag. It did in time come back down to $8-$10. per bag. I just hope that history will repeat itself again.
Antimony and gas prices influence this also. So now that gas is down 50% we really should be seeing the differences.
Actually, we're selling tons of it regardless of price. It seems to be selling well at the current price point!
Oil is down again but gas went up today, reason, station owners want more profit. Could be one reason with the lead but remember the lead was bought at higher prices so it will take a while to come down.
There is a gas station about 5 miles from me. Every Friday they raise the price 4 to 7 cents per gallon for the weekend. I guess the figure people get paid Friday, Sat or Sun. and gas up. Monday it goes back down.
