Canadians at Cardinal

I haven't seen the demographics for shoots at the CC and perhaps there is some type of investment or ownership from Canada, but I'm curious as to why the Canadian flag is raised and the Canadian national anthem played at the start of activities.

 

It is out of respect for our Canadian guests. The Cardinal Center and the MTA in Mason Michigan both draw large numbers of Canadian shooters. It is not as easy as it once was for them to come into our country and attend our shoots. Playing the Canadian national anthem lets them know how much we appreciate their attendance. I was once told that there are only two groups of American citizens that know all the words to the Canadian national anthem, hockey fans and trap shooters!

The only investment from Canada is the investment of friendship.

It has been a long-standing practice in both countries to fly the United States and Canadian flags at facilities where both groups of competitors normally attend. Shooters from both countries have engaged in friendly competition since the 1800's and offer this sign of respect to one another.

I've attended the Canadian Championships in Ontario and St. Thomas Gun Clubs where they honored their American friends in this way and I truly appreciated and was very prideful when they played our National Anthem. I have a strong feeling that our Canadian friends feel the same way when we play "Oh Canada" their beautiful Anthem. I've even found myself singing along sometimes. Couldn't help myself.

Respect is one of the highest tributes one can offer. The many Canadian friends I've had the honor of meeting, have earned this tribute in my opinion.

I have no problem with a club playing "Oh Canada" during the opening ceremony's, just as the Canadians do it when there are Americans present up Nort , EH ... I like the Canadians but still am not voting for Cruz, he should be running for Prime Minister in Canada if he was a retirement job ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

A good read, confirming my belief that the world is made up of mostly good people. Unfortunately we hear too much about the bad ones instead of the good deeds of the majority. I only hope the reporter is mistaken about what U.S. fans would do. I'd like to think we would extend the same honor to our Canadian friends. That's what good, descent, respectful people do.

"What is going on with performing the national anthem before hockey games in Canada?

First, there was the skater who infamously fell on the ice and now there’s this.

Before Tuesday night’s Nashville Predators-Toronto Maple Leafs game in Toronto, Michelle Madeira was singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ when the microphone cut out, so fans, being the courteous Canadian folk Canadian folk are, picked up the slack and finished the song.

It’s a pretty amazing sight, especially when you consider it’s the national anthem for another country. We’re pretty sure if this happened stateside, fans would’ve just muttered obscenities and debated how long to remain standing before getting too winded to stay on their feet.

After they wrapped ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ fans chimed in on ‘O Canada’ because they also have pride in their own country.
Way to go, Canada!"

May I publicly thank the many friends I've met from north of our boarder, for making sure that my glass of Crown Royal never went empty. Gracious hosts, they truly are.

Last year we had 19 Canadians at the Buckeye, 36 at Ohio State, and 47 for the Cardinal Classic.

The Canadian Anthem was even played in Arizona at the Spring Grand. It's a great idea to have both Anthems.
