Received an email from 8 Sisters Bakery that they will be running the Fishburn Concession again this year. https://www.facebook.com/8sistersbakery/photos_stream
As Paul Harvey would say -- page 2 WPT the reason for the strange math. Her name is Emma. She is one of the 8 sisters. 8 Sisters Bakery runs the Fishburn concession but the interesting part of the story is not that they are Amish but that they were Amish. And stranger yet there are 8 brothers. All lived in the same house. So what is the big deal? They lost their mother due to a truck & buggy accident. Their father was left to raise 16 children. Emma is somewhere around the middle child as a girl but even Emma had to think where she ranked overall. (the one time we need a H1N1 graph). In girl ranking she is fourth. Generally we think of the middle children as the easy to get along followers. Not so here and the story gets sadder before it gets better. Emma's father fell into a depression after losing his wife. It is not like you can hook the team up and go to the local Amish shrink. Emma somehow prodded her father to seek help. Taboo As Emma's father became emotionally stronger tragedy struck again. Around an Easter one of the prize family horses was dying. Someone came over to help. Maybe a vet of sorts, a friend or so from outside the community. Somehow as the horse died they discussed how the bible dealt with these issues. I was surprised to find discussing the bible or religion with folks outside the "community" is taboo. Word of the discussion reached the leader of the church. The price would be to humbly go before the church and confess publicly her horrific sin. Emma refused but her father argued knowing what was at stake. Emma said, " I knew there was another life out there. I wanted that life. Dad finally gave in. " I asked her which family member took it the hardest? She said one of her sisters and then explained that her father lost a lifetime of friends. Three girls and two brothers remain in the world of the Amish. Emma and some of the sisters are members on the forum. link to fb 8 Sisters Bakery https://www.facebook.com/8sistersbakery?fref=photo __________________________________________________________________ (above previously posted) My screensaver
