1, 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. The ATA forgot to fill in the Blanks Gary Bryant...................Dr.longshot
If anyone is interested there are numerous postings about the State of Illinois budget talks , responses, disputed issues, and what its going to take for the budget crisis to be settled once the talks and meetings resume after the New Year on Huffington Posts (google it ) ... There is nothing posted on the IDNR web site, the State of Illinois Gov web site, the WSRC web site as well as on all of the up dates listed on any of the sites for public information ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
WPT or anyone else that knows, during the Grand/SCTP weeks, does the IDNR employees do anything for those shoots?
They wont have to do anything at the SCTP Collegiate Nationals. That is at the CC. Did not want to wait for the minutes?
duffkjs06....The IDNR employees are mainly maintenance of the grounds with the exception of law enforcement who would be the only ones involved in the shoot programs. People seem to forget (conveniently) that this is in the State Park system. When the ATA sees your list Longshot I'm sure they will get right on filling out the blanks.
What I'm getting at is, if the ATA doesn't need the state workers, then why does it take such effort for the state to let the shoot go on? As I understood it, the ATA has the Grand there, then there is everything else, so why can't the state, at worst just let the Grand weeks go on, and let everyone know?
The State cannot operate the facility without the Union people being on the pay roll and on site even if there is nothing for them to do, that's the way Unions operate and have for ever ... I do not know what if any involvement the State workers would have but do know the facility will not be operational if they are not there ... IDNR provides some of the security (Park Rangers) and its supplemented by the Illinois State Police (over time detail) probably because of the number of people and the fact that guns are involved ... I would imagine Sparta would be the safest place in the State while the shooters are there and every one knows they all have guns and for the most part how to use them ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Illinois is certainly no Wisconsin. Unions hold a stranglehold on Illinois politicians due to the Cook County liberals in power. If a toilet overflows in the visitors clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field on the south side nothing will happen until a union plumber is summoned. What a joke. In addition, you take your life in your hands walking in the VIP parking area due to all the thugs with guns. That Cook County ban on handguns is really working well. If those butt holes in Democratic Cook County have their way Sparta is toast. I feel bad for all the good people in the state of Illinois that have to bow to the whims of these jackwagons.
Only thing I can say about any vendor making plans to attend is that my best trap shooting buddy works part time for a major gun manufacturer who attends some of the bigger shoots including Sparta. Talked to him yesterday about if he's going to work Sparta again this year? His exact answer was "are you kidding me, that place is closed up tighter then a drum". The gun company has not even contacted him as of yet. And I can add this, he's an old school trapshooter that I shot with all the way back to the 70's and he hates the new direction.
The unionized workers are still there, still being paid for not doing anything, so what will be different if no budget is in place by August?
The WSRC sooner or later will go out of business, once that happens the need for Union workers or not will be eliminated and the Union will relocate their members to other positions else where ... The Union does not release its grasp once they place Unionized employees in a place of business ... The State of Illinois supports Unionization and have always been big supporters of same ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
And yet, the ATA and HOF don't have to hire union workers or pay the prevailing wage. The question is, even if the whole park is shut down, that doesn't mean the Grand can't be there for three weeks, the other buildings and, when the HOF is ready, would still be open, as they are now.
Duff A state park is a state park is a state park. It does not matter if it is shut down. All labor done there will be done by the union as per contract. Unless of course the property is sold. Inside the building the HOF can hire all the non-union retail workers it wants.
duff, I have not read the contract between the State on the Union (local) so I do not know any of the particulars of the agreement and who is bound by what, obviously those that maintain the place are Union ... That is not saying that retail employees and or people who work directly for the ATA have to be Unionized (Organized) ... I do not know what would happen if the ATA put their people in the facility to maintain it if there would be a problem, but would bet money there would be back lash from the Union ... I do not know this to be a fact but was in the Teamsters for over 20 years and if it would of been our local there would be more problems than they would want to deal with, this I can assure you ... I was a member of the Union because I had no choice but they had my back covered if and when it was needed ... All for one and One for all kind of thing, no current or retired person who was in a Union would enter the property if they had a strike like up unless there have been a lot of changes ... The "MEMBERS" of the ATA need that degree or organization and respect for and with each other , things would be a lot different ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
The talking head learned in Sparta That Cold water is on the Right, Hot Water is on the left and Sh*t runs downhill right through the Horse Barn. GB................DLS
No, not as we know it. If it mutates into any other form (think satellite) we lose the very essence of the event. It does not appear that any other facility even would consider hosting the event much less have the means to do it. It either survives in Sparta or it dies in Sparta. I think the coin is in the air.
The WSRC is part of the park or the park is part of the WSRC either way you say it would be correct ... If the place is maintained by Union Brothers and Sisters you'd best believe it cannot be done by anyone other than, as long as it is State owned and operated ... If the State Rents, leases, or borrows the facility to any other organization the Union Employees with do the maintenance of said facility unless there have been some major changes in the way the Unions operate in protecting Members jobs and rights to work ... The Unions are much stronger and organized than the ATA will ever be, they watch out for each other and cover each other butts when the need arises ... The ATA can operate within the confines as long as they adhere to the rules laid down by the owners (State of Illinois) , the owners in turn must adhere to the rules laid down by and agreed to between them (State of Illinois) and the Union , not all that difficult to understand ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
No. There is so much more to holding a trap shoot than most ATA members realize. If the place is closed who does the parking, the trash, the camp grounds, the roads, the toilets, the ground works, in other words the day to day stuff that as a shooter you take for granted. duffkjs2006 I take it you are a younger shooter, it's not the easy to put on a thousand entree trap shoot and make it happen. In my opinion the grand is just about dead. I know that Gipson talked to the CC several times this summer and fall but Jack's terms weren't to the EC's liking. The CC will be much better off if the SCTP needs to move and Jack has made them some good offers. I've heard a date of 12-31-15 as a drop dead date for the state of Illinois to make a commitment in that matter, but just a pretty good rumor to date, but I do know that Jack offered to build the SCTP 16 skeet fields at the CC so I think it would be really hard for them to turn down the sure thing at the Cardinal for a maybe later this summer deal from Sparta, but they will have to commit very soon because July isn't that far off. The Columbus area would be a great fit for the kids and nobody runs a better trap shoot than the CC. It will be an interesting next couple of months, GO TRUMP. Brad
Brad, Why wouldn't the ATA just hire workers or volunteers to do the logistics, isn't that how all shoots are run? My question is, if the state closes the park, what prevents the state and the ATA from continuing to have the Grand there?
Sometime you have to think your talking to the toaster ... Happy New Year everyone ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
The only thing closed at Sparta is the camping and shooting. (the sources of income) All state employee's are still working on a daily basis. The park is being maintained the same now as it was this time last year. The state employees job during the Grand is to keep the facilities operational. electrical, plumbing, mowing, filling the pot holes with gravel, etc etc I'm putting my bets on the Grand being in Sparta just as it has been.
I am betting that way as well. But so few people really care. Fewer every day. Porch Dog.... as a new member here you probably haven't kept up with the budget and headlines out of Sparta. As per your quote about maintaining the road etc. This may help. Previously posted. Rauner vetoes infrastructure funds for WSRC http://www.randolphcountyheraldtribune.com/article/20150701/NEWS/150709909 Of the WSRC line items, Rauner vetoed one that earmarked $157,045 for “infrastructure improvements” at the WSRC. According to Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young, that amount was to go toward road resurfacing inside the complex. Hope that helps.
duffkiss06, looks like my info on the SCTP from Dec 27 was right on the mark. My new info is that the MOU is now for only 2 or 3 weeks. PorchDog you might not want to bet the farm on 16. The fat lady is warming up. What makes anyone think the EC can run the WSRC with sporting, pistol, skeet when they have such trouble with a trap shoot? Brad
If the EC, ED and some of the BOD actually had to run it (hands on) the shoot would never happen ... They are not there to do anything other than take up space and hang together ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I think you need to take a drive by/thru the WRSC, ain't no state employees there GB...................DLS
