CHICAGO • Gov. Bruce Rauner said Friday that the final meeting of the year with legislative leaders about the state budget impasse was productive, even though House Speaker Michael Madigan did not attend.

And then buy mid January of 2017 for the ATA to get back to us on a plan for a permanent home grounds.

Based on the lack of information from the ATA it is my belief (and I could be wrong again) that the ATA will wait as long as possible or until the State makes a decision to decide on the status of the Grand either at Sparta or somewhere else. This waiting will cause the attendance at the Grand to drop and leave many vendors in limbo. So the decline continues

I have been saying since the birth of the HOF building that it is the anchor baby for the corrupt. The ATA hid the fact that is was to be built for and owned by the State of Illinois. $2.1 million. A deal made with the felon Blagojevich. Imo the only argument they have to stay in the gun hate state is because they built an oversize pig barn.

Mention that the ATA HOF could have had a building built for them and land for free and they pretend they cant hear. Mention the building would have had 100,000 people drive by everyday and you get the same reaction. Mention that we have the same number of shooters in the GAH as we did before the Korean War.

It isn't about the shooters. But that's just my opinion.

Pretty good opinion. Although according to the Kool-Aid boys and girls. The next Grand will be at Sparta and it will be great. Really big, probably over a thousand shooters in the Grand American Handicap.

    Bingo!

It is hard for the tin foil hat club to see the obvious.

When the official announcement is made it will be very entertaining to watch the majority of posters here put on suicide watch.

Oh I don't know Roger, it seems to me the comic section is going full speed ahead.

I find your posts hysterical. Throw in the doctor and you have a vaudeville act that may play in Peoria.

No matter what act plays in Peoria, or anywhere else for that matter, NOTHING can beat the comedy of errors that was playing in that place called sparta. What could be better than the 18 yard line act from two years ago.

I'm glad the grand is going to be in Sparta as I was concerned the two local shooters that shoot there might suicide themselves if it moved, but was relieved to find out Sparta doesn't have a building tall enough to jump off!

Good thing it can be in Illinois. It seems OH said no to the corruption. 4 shoots with AA points should be more than enough shooting for the Cardinal Center for this summer. Add the SCTP shoots and OH is booked.

Maybe they can go to Morris's home state of Rhode Island if they have registered shoots this year.

I have posted nothing about Sparta other then the grand will be held there. And you assume I am a Sparta hater? And if I go to the other site they will love me for hating Sparta?

Wow Roger, put down the spiked egg nog. It is severely affecting your reading comprehension skills.

And I will be at the Buckeye, State Shoot and Cardinal Classic enjoying a first class facility. I will also shoot at the Grand. And in between I will shoot the Michigan State shoot, the Indiana State Shoot and never miss the Missouri State shoot.

Then it is on to Tuscon for the winter. That should really set off Roger, lol.

Now lets see if I can squeeze in Rhode Island somehow.

    Kastaway,

You were very easy, one cast and I had you lip hooked. Glad that you shoot a lot, if you make the Spring Grand look me up. I will be there. Skip RI and come to the AZ. state shoot , it is at Ben Avery this year in Phoenix. Shoot often and enjoy. Roger C.

I believe there is a group of Illinois politicians that are very happy with the current state of the facility in Sparta. What I mean us they want it and the guns gone. They see it as a drain on the budget and believe the state would be best served by selling the facility or at least getting it off the budget. If it fails to survive the current negotiations I think they would be very happy. There are not as many state politicians in support of Sparta as many would like to think there are.

The Politico's from the State of Illinois were fed a line of BS second to none by the ATA based on numbers that had never been reached and never will since the relocation or anytime in the future ... The State of Illinois was thinking they were going to bring in 100,000 shooters and or visitors to shore up the economy in Randolf County (Sparta, Ill) and the general area in the region ... The Politicos who were in favor of building the facility have since changed their minds and are not voting in favor of it any longer in an attempt to save their Political Careers and then of course there are those who have since been on vacation in the Federal Pens ... They tried to petition the Governor and needed 10,000 signatures, they got less that 7,500 so that was a waste of time, money, and effort which there is a lot of in State Government ... The ATA yet today is making claims about the possibility of up to $20 Million dollars being generated in the region, yet it has not been able to come close in the past 11 years, this is going to be the year according to the E,D. (Lynn Gipson) as they have past the trial and tribulations of a new business and are now on track for all hell to break loose ... The State of Illinois has the best auditors and they can tell the ATA and or anyone who cares to listen exactly how much the facility has NOT generated since becoming reality and exactly how much it has cost the State in tax payer dollars and cents ... Politicos are much the same as Prostitutes except with a prostitute you know whats going to happen, much the same as the Politicians except they deny it ever happened even after it does and the people wait for it to happen again and again ... People are moving out of the State of Illinois because they simply cannot afford to stay living there any longer as the cost has escalated to where its out of sight with tax increases and the cost of living ... Yes, you can bet the WSRC will be up and running like nothing ever happened so the attendees can come and be gone in 2 weeks after the grand and Illinois has to clean up the mess again ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Grand American Trapshooting Championships Return to Illinois

World Shooting and Recreational Complex hosts over 7,000 competitors for 4th consecutive year

SPARTA, IL—The Illinois Department of Natural Resources welcomes the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) Grand American Trapshooting Championship to the World Shooting and Recreational Complex (WSRC) in Sparta, Illinois.

The Grand American is scheduled for August 5-15 at the 1,600-acre WSRC, home to the event since 2006.

More than 7,000 shooters and 100,000 spectators and visitors are expected to attend the 11-day event in southwestern Illinois.

“The Grand American is one of the world’s great shooting sports events and we are excited to again welcome tens of thousands of shooters and visitors from throughout the country and around the world to the Land of Lincoln,” said IDNR Director Marc Miller. “The World Shooting and Recreational Complex is the ideal venue for the Grand American, and the hospitality of the citizens, businesses, and local officials in Sparta and throughout the region is second to none.”

The WSRC features 120 trap fields spanning three-and-a-half miles; 1,000 campsites; ample parking; a full-service events center and vendor mall featuring 80 exhibitors; and, on-site food service from southern Illinois’ famed 17th Street Bar and Grill. In addition to the trap shooting facilities, the WSRC skeet, sporting clays, archery, and cowboy action shooting sports facilities host events and open shooting opportunities year round.

“The WSRC has become the premier destination for shooting sports enthusiasts of all ages, and we are excited to work with the ATA on encouraging greater interest among young people – girls and boys – in the shooting sports,” Miller added.

The Grand American is one of the nation’s oldest sporting events, begun in 1893. The first Grand American using clay targets was held in 1900. In addition to a full schedule of trap shooting competition, the ATA has scheduled nightly entertainment at the complex.

For complete details on ATA Preliminary Week (Aug. 5-9) and Grand Week (Aug. 10-15) daily shooting events and competition, check the ATA Grand American program online at http://www.shootata.com/pdfs/programs/GRAND09.pdf

For more information on the World Shooting and Recreational Complex, check the IDNR web site at http://www.dnr.state.il.us/worldshooting/.
