Mineral Spirits

Wanna buy a big jug for cleaning, and buy a spray bottle to put in.
Does anyone have a recommendation for brand and type to purchase of MS?

 

buy the cheapest. it's all lacquer thinner. Been using it for yrs. to clean my guns

 

I think mineral spirits is not the same as lacquer thinner.

 

Lacquer thinner would probably remove the blueing I would guess.

 

Brand doesn't matter it will all be the same, Walmart is cheapest.

I used to use mineral spirits primarily in my ultrasonic cleaner, but switched to Simple Green HD years ago (and Dawn dish soap for aluminum). Ended up having to use mineral spirits again yesterday because I wanted to put a barreled rifle action in the ultrasonic, and didn't want to get water in the barrel/receiver threads were I wouldn't be able to get it out. But I would never go back to mineral spirits again given the choice.

You will need to buy a specialty sprayer for your bottle that has petro-rated o-rings. Normal sprayers will leak in short order as the o-rings break down.

Lacquer thinner and mineral spirits definitely aren't the same thing.
