Where are all our proverbial wise men? Where are the sport's elders? Where are all those that have professed to love the sport? The people that have wished for the position as delegate are silent. I would think that anyone that was in such a position would be in agony at what has been posted on this site. Either fuming because this crap is false or enraged that it may be true............but nothing.
The majority of the membership is not united enough to get enough good, strong, logical and reasonable people (man or woman) in a position to do anything and make the needed changes for the betterment of the Association ... Paul Shaw , Dr Frank Rively, as well as Mr Jim Thompson all rejected by the EC and or BOD because they would of exposed what was in fact going on ... These are men of Honor and Integrity to the highest degree and everyone knows what happened with them but not really why ... The Good Ol' Boys Club is alive and well and they have a lock on the positions that can make a difference to preserve or destroy the ATA's existence long into the future for generations yet to come ... The EC has their own agenda, they are supported by most of the Delegates so what those opposed feel is meaningless because they are out numbered ... I talked in depth with one of our former Delegates on several occasions about his thoughts and what could be done to get things moving in the right direction to benefit the Association and the over all membership ... The conversation was interesting and thought provoking but as he said "going no where because the EC has enough of the BOD in their pockets to keep it and any progressive changes from happening " ... The Members have to demand changes get made because there are more of them than there are EC and BOD members ... If the membership was "United" things could get changed and done even if forced by legal actions ... The trust has been broken on many occasions and levels based on certain activities for personal financial enrichment rather than working on behalf and for the betterment of the Association and its members ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Might want to take into account, not all members worry as much as you guys do. Some don't have issues with how things are. Some suggest things a little at a time. Some don't care what is going on, what did go on, or what will go on, as long as the trap help shows up and there are targets being thrown. In other words, not everyone has the same opinion or see things the same way as everyone else.
What you are saying is absolutely true but that does not mean that people who know the difference can not or should not care or be concerned ... There are a lot of people who label others who are concerned as " ATA or Sparta Haters and Bashers ". when in fact nothing is farther from the truth ... The ATA is a member organization, not a "Cash Cow" for the chosen few so they can play on members money ... You do not have to care, but that will not keep others from doing so ... There are organizations that love people like you, Obama and his administration is one also, make your check payable to _______ and don't let the door hit you on the way out ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Three kinds of people, people that make things happen, people that watch things happen, and people that ask what happened!
So, I try to explain the OP question, then you make it a personal attack on me? Then you want people to get behind your cause? Your tactics are why the members won't get behind you.
Please point out where WPT personally attacked you because I sure don't see it. Maybe you are the problem by taking offense at something that wasn't said. Feeling guilty about something.
Interesting. Notice my original post never stated my personal opinion. Yet, this is what you don't think is an attack: There are organizations that love people like you, Obama and his administration is one also, make your check payable to _______ and don't let the door hit you on the way out ...
duffkjs06, Please accept my apology's as I did not mean it as a personal attack , just maybe a bad example ... The members really need as many members as possible to band together and attempt to eliminate some of the problems before its to late for the Association and future generations of shooters ... The EC and some of the BOD like (prefer) people who do not as in never question their actions or agenda's ... The ATA is dependent on the minority becoming the majority so this can happen ... The best thing that has happened to trapshooting in recent years is the evolution of this site where people can express all views, especially those that go against the grain with hopes of making it a better sport for all ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
The ATA has never had a really fanatical shooter base, the average lifespan is/was about three years for a member. So generating new members was always the driving force in the 70's, 80's, and 90's for the ATA. If a shooter lasted over 5 years he was probably going to be around for life. I've seen thousands of shooters start and quit, many fewer start and stay. What has happened now is less new shooters and many older ones dying, and after the grand moving to a gun hater state, quitting. The small club shoots are gone. In 1974, the year I started there would be over a dozen clubs holding a registered shoot in Ohio on any weekend in the spring and summer. Many clubs shot during the week als. These do not exist now either, the whole ATA chain has snapped, it's not going to be fixed no matter who runs the ATA. The ATA is broken and no amount of hope will change it. It needs to die the death it deserves and earned. An apathetic membership is to blame indeed, but so is the self serving corruption the BOD and EC allowed. No honer, no history, no place for the grand. A fantastic direction, just lovely.
"over a dozen clubs holding a registered shoot in Ohio on any weekend in the spring and summer." Same in PA when I started in 1972. First registered in 1976. The problem was deciding WHERE to shoot. Three or four clubs were throwing on the same Sunday. You could shoot a league on Wednesday evening early then drive 30 minutes and register 100 singles if you needed the targets. NOW?, not a hard decision at all. There is usually only one club shooting registered targets on any given weekend. The last time two of us decided to shoot the "zone" shoot for western PA. there were 12 guys standing on the porch at 10:00 AM. We went home. I think they ended up with somewhere around 25 shooters for the 16's. Sad FlyersAREbest
