I'm wondering and thought it would be interesting to see how many change the poi when they go from 16 yds. to caps from the fence. Under normal conditions how many if at all inches do you prefer your gun to shoot higher from 27 yds.? Would like to also say Thank You for this sight. I to don't care for TS.com's new format and this is a great alternative and with Brad's input like putting frosting on the cake.
I shoot the same POI from 16 to 27 yards. Use same POI for Doubles as well. I am AA27AA on 2 hole targets / Soft Doubles.
Normally I shoot a slightly higher poi from 27 yds than I do from 16yd. Usually about 3 to 4 inches higher with about 1150 shells from 16yd and1200 to 1250 fps from 27 yds. Dave Berlet
I shoot the same sight picture every where, But My guns shoot higher than most guys guns, I shoot the same speed of shell as long as I am on the line. I hold a high gun waiting for them to come out, I normally just make right and left move to break targets., My hold point is at 9:00 O Clock, and on the corners for angles
Good Dr., please explain your statement about holding at 9:00; I am assuming 12:00 is middle of the trap house. When you say you hold on the corners for angles does this mean you can accurately time the trap and predict the upcoming throw? Educate me please.
1200fps 16 or 27 100% high (15") 16 or 27 Gun held 24" over house on 16's. Gun held 12" over house on 27.
Hello Dr. Longshot: enjoy reading your posts. I was sincere in my request above, can you please explain your 9:00 hold (where is 12:00?). When you say you hold the corners for angles - what station(s) do you hold corners on? An inquiring mind would really appreciate a response. Thanks
No I do not time the target, I track it as soon as I am on it I fire, 9:00 "O" Clock is gun is straight out maybe elevated to 10:00 "O" Clock if the targets are higher, On Post 1 left corner of the trap house, Post #5 On Right Corner of the Trap house, already there for the angles, less movement required for me, less chance of error.
That was the original title for the twelve o’clock high movie. Gregory Peck threatened to walk until they changed it.
It depends. If you're already shooting a 100 % high shooting from the 16 yd. line it may be advantageous to lower your impact a few inches when shooting from the fence. This especially holds true on low targets. Works for me-sometimes.
Was AA27AA and always shot an 80/20 impact for singles & Caps. Dubs was 70/30 first shot, 60/40 second. With some practice & muscle memory, you brain will tell you when to pull or let go of the trigger. However now at 75 I just try not to pee on my shoes.
I have never held a low gun down on the roof, I rely on my Periferal Vision when holding 9:OO Clock which is 90 Degrees to 1O "O" Clock which is about 10 degrees Higher estimate. I never float a target, I touch the bird and release, BUT KEEP GUN MOVING I want to see smoke on every shot I always use Extra Full Choke tubes or Fixed full.
